2017 was a great year for me at the movie theater. We got Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Blade Runner 2049, and The Last Jedi.

2019 still feels bigger though, just because Avengers: Endgame and Episode IX are just so huge in their respective universes.

Endgame for the summer and Episode IX for the holidays. What a great time to be alive!

Hard to beat Vader in the intimidatingly evil department. I like that they went in a different direction with Kylo. It’s not that they didn’t know how to make him more menacing. They just didn’t want to write a Vader clone. Kylo is Kylo. He’s got his own issues. Not being as big of a deal as Vader just makes his idolization of him more torturous. He wants to be but just isn’t. I still wouldn’t piss him off though.

Same here. I’ve tried watching a few online and early on just became disinterested. Maybe I’ve just seen the theatrical releases so many times, that any sort of fan edit just feels bizarre.

The one I would be most interested in seeing would be where someone edited all the prequels into one movie. That sounds extremely appealing, but I’ve never seen it.

I was so certain the Unaltered Original Trilogy would be announced during Celebration for the 40th anniversary. While standing in various lines I would mention it during conversation and always the same response… blank stares. It was like I was speaking latin or something. I don’t know if they just had no idea what I was talking about or were just devoted to whatever is said to be the official version that the idea of anything else was blasphemous. The point is, if I didn’t come across many fans wanting the UOT at Celebration, then I don’t think it’s much of priority for many people.

Sorry to be pessimistic. I believe they will show up as a special feature eventually, but I just don’t see a beautiful Unaltered Original Trilogy on 4K UHD with HDR released to huge fanfare. I’m more and more thankful for my Harmy discs every day. Still doesn’t address the need for preserving the original content for future generations though. I hate the idea of something so special being lost. Guess this is all for another thread though.

Knives Out sounds like a blast. He said it’s a mystery movie and listed several movies that were inspirational in making it. Among those were Clue, Murder By Death, The Private Eyes, Deathtrap, and Something’s Afoot, so I’m sure there will be a strong comedy element. He also named Evil Under the Sun, Death on the Nile, The Last of Sheila, Gosford Park, The Mirror Crack’d, and Murder on the Orient Express. The cast is great and I can’t wait to see it.

Knives Out is most likely comedic, but I wouldn’t call Looper or Brick comedies, The Last Jedi isn’t either. Hopefully we get some details soon. Can’t wait!

Those OT characters definitely were made supporting characters in order for new characters to be the leads. I think that is logical and they did a great job executing it. The same goes with ships. We have familiar but updated types, but also a few new ones. Yes, we still have a similar Rebels vs Empire conflict, because for many that is what Star WARS essentially is. We have other projects they are making that can expound on the galaxy and show us lots of other characters, ships, and new conflicts. I think it’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

There’s another Hamill quote out there where he says a lot of his comments that get posted were just cherrypicked and he doesn’t hate the sequel movies. I’d say his feelings must be more mixed than that. He’s practically bipolar regarding them, much like I am with the prequels. Watching The Director and the Jedi documentary, his conflicted feelings seem obvious.

I am enjoying these sequels and I’m enjoying Hamill in them. The hype and anticipation leading up to, during, and after are some of my favorite times ever. Social media can be an asset to that joy or a detriment, depending on where you focus. I’m taking the high road. All hype and joy for me. Life is too short to give in to the dark side.

The new trilogy isn’t about Luke, it’s about the next generation. Alec Guinness was a great actor, but he didn’t go on and on abut wanting to be the focus of the trilogy. He was killed off in one movie and was a Force ghost in the other two. Mark still needs more training. “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.”

The way Rogue One fits so well with Star Wars, I could go for more stories like that. I could go for one about the Bothan spies that leads up to Return of the Jedi. The best would be a Darth Vader movie taking place directly after Revenge of the Sith.

If there are infinite universes, then the Unaltered Original Trilogy is on 4K UHD… somewhere…

Did the fleet scamper off? The movie doesn’t make that clear. We saw at least one regular Star Destroyer blow up. I imagine the kamikaze maneuver on the Super Star Destroyer might have inspired some other desperate or wounded pilots to do the same.

If I remember correctly, multiple Star Destroyers were significantly damaged by debris. I’m sure there could be a few that remain functional. Also, I doubt that was the entire First Order fleet. It’s a common military strategy to not have all your ships in one place and I’m sure the First Order has multiple endeavors.

I’m curious to how the new legend of Luke Skywalker will fair at bringing support to what’s left of the diminutive Resistance.

What are exactly Kylo’s goals going forward? I’m sure he wants to pursue Rey, but does he really want to rule the galaxy?

This show is really heating up. Descent was the best episode yet. All of the character building will benefit the story for the big event about to go down.
It’s going to be a great year for Star Wars with this, plus The Mandalorian, and then Episode IX!

Is it just me, or has this place been quieter lately?

I loved TLJ and love it more every time I watch it.

I understand why some didnt like it. I think it comes down to a few things:

1. They didn’t like Luke’s storyline.

They just wanted to see Luke out and about taking out baddies Jedi master style.

I wanted that too, but I also can very much identify with the story we got.

2. They don’t like misdirection in general.

They probably thought Poe was doing the right thing and were thrown off to see he wasnt.

3. They just didn’t understand it.

Yes, it is entirely possible to fully understand TLJ and still not like it. But it doesn’t mean there isn’t a significant group that complain about the movie and make factually incorrect statements about characters and events.

4. They just don’t like the style of the new movies.

I can relate. I didn’t like the style of the prequels.

I think over time appreciation of TLJ will grow. I have high hopes for Rian Johnson’s Trilogy. He is an excellent director and writer. I think people will be more accepting of his style when he isn’t using beloved characters previously established by someone else.

The output of Hollywood isn’t because of studios merging. They produce what sells. Supply and demand. I think there will always be more action blockbusters than artistic masterpieces, but both will still be around because people will create them and they will find there audiences. It’s even easier now with the technology available.

I need it to become so large, it’s like Westworld on HBO, and then I will live there like the man in black.

Feel free to do that. But try to at least retain some class consciousness and remember what Disney is.

I’m not sure there can be monopolies on non essential entertainment. People will always create other things. Actually, if you want more new and original intellectual properties, then Disney buying things up is sort of a good thing, as it will force the people to create something else.

If you stop liking what Disney is producing, then just go watch something different. There are so many studios and streaming services, the idea of someone monopolizing the industry sounds crazy to me. I remember having three TV stations and no VCR. Now I have access to even the most obscure content from numerous providers.

Monopolies are dangerous and can hurt consumers though, but I think it is more significant when we talk about more essential services, utilities, airlines, phones, internet providers. I think entertainment options are becoming more broad, not less. Disney is just good at making money, and that isn’t a bad home for you favorite things.

I’ll be at the Galaxy’s Edge theme park soaking in all the Star Wars I can, seeing Episode IX multiple times in Dolby, and enjoying my Disney+ subscription. Life is short, I am going to enjoy what I enjoy.
