Popularity of the Original Trilogy enhanced by Prequels?
Time

If the last new Star wars we ever saw was back in 1983, the franchise wouldn’t be as popular as it is today. The originals may have maintained a reputation of being groundbreaking for their time, and a cultural touchstone, but so many young people have an attachment to Star Wars that has very little to do with the originals. They most likely only saw those movies out of curiosity about how it all started.

As it is now, all parts of Star Wars reinforce each other. Each generation has their own take on it. I’d say it’s more correct that the prequels, as well as other new content, is what will keeps people aware of Star Wars. I don’t see an end in sight, and that’s comforting.

'Star Wars: <strong>The High Republic</strong>' era publishing project (was aka 'Project Luminous')
Time

I finished Light of the Jedi yesterday. Thought about making a dedicated thread for it, but there doesn’t seem to be much interest here in the High Republic, at least not yet.

I think that will change. Watching that panel with all the authors, the have so much planned across all levels of books and comics. More importantly, Light of the Jedi was really good. I highly recommend it. I think the High Republic will become a huge part of Star Wars.

I can’t believe how well planned all of it sounds. I know they’ve been working on it for years, but it sound like they have so much mapped out. There’s a ton of concept art too and it all looks amazing. I’m all in on this.

I fully agree mate; some impressive people involved in this, and have seemingly been given the time and freedom to plan out what they are doing with it. Good to see the official site heavily behind this too:

Star Wars: The High Republic Is Here

and even the official site having a dedicated section to this too - https://www.starwars.com/the-high-republic

Plus, your own Upcoming Star Wars Release Schedule thread on here is pretty useful & helpful resource too 👍

I updated it just now with new titles and dates. (I originally posted it in the Expanded Universe section but maybe I should have put it in the Beyond Star Wars section since it lists movies and TV series too.)

I’m really enjoying “Light of the Jedi” so far!

Opinions Change
Time

When I was a kid, I considered the movies canon and all the Expanded Universe material to just be the equivalent of fan fiction. As I got older and heard people frequently praising several of the same stories like Thrawn, I realized I’d probably missed out on a lot of quality Star Wars, so I sought them out and was pleasantly surprised.

<strong>The Mandalorian</strong> - a general discussion thread - * <em><strong>SPOILERS</strong></em> *
Time

There were some fan favorite characters that appeared, but season 2 was so much more. The first episode had the most western feel of all the episodes to me. A stranger rides into a dying town to help the Marshal save them then rides off into the sunset. The episode with Ahsoka was a full on Samurai movie. I love the visuals, especially Ahsoka on rooftops.
None of the fan favorite characters from the animated series took over the show though. It was still focused on Din Djarin and Grogu.
We also got an outstanding performance from Bill Burr as Mayfeld that gave us some insight into the mind of a former Imperial.
The score of season 2 was even more amazing than the incredible Emmy winning first season.
Last but not leas was Luke Skywalker, who I don’t regard as just someone for the hardcore fans. I think Luke is as recognizable as any character. He’s part of pop culture. That final episode was peak Star Wars.

Going away? Post so here!
Time

I honestly have no idea what the argument is about, or who is on which side of what, so I’m hesitant to join any side. Not that it would matter, I haven’t made any friends here really. The only person I’ve frequently chatted with is ooJason. He’s always been extremely friendly and helpful. I’ve never had a problem with anyone here either though.

I don’t come into the cantina much, which is probably why I have no idea what’s gong on. I got curious and tried reading through some old threads, but I just see anger and more vague references to events I don’t know about, so I mainly stick to talking about Star Wars.

Sorry if people are missing some long time friends who’ve been banned, but it doesn’t sound like it was an easy decision for the mods, and SilverWook has explained the bans were due to their conduct and not a vendetta. The Star Wars discussions do seem more pleasant.

It sounds like whatever the original problem was doesn’t even matter anymore, it’s just become some longstanding feud that’s more about the feud itself than whatever started it. Sorry if I’m way off. Just what it seems like to me.

I think the main mission of this site, to preserve the original versions and how they were created, is important to our cultural history. I hope this community can move past all this and continue to enjoy Star Wars. This is an excellent time to be a Star Wars fan.

Lucas' Inspirations for Star Wars
Time

This question might be slightly off topic, but I didn’t see a better place to post it and didn’t want to start an unnecessary thread. I seem to remember George saying something along the lines of “if one person creates something, the result appeals to one type of person, but when a group of people make something together they produce something that appeals to a wider audience.” That’s probably not the exact phrasing, but you get the idea. I remember it being from a younger George during the making of the Originals.

It’s a concept that has informed my view on lots of things since I was a kid. I’ve searched for the source many times over the years but I’ve never been able to find anything. They say every time we remember something, our brains change it slightly. I could be way off as my brain has been around a long time. Thought I would see if anyone knows of an instance where George or anyone attached to Star Wars might have said something like this.

Where should Lucasfilm go after Episode IX?
Time

I hope they jut keep exploring different characters corners of the galaxy with Disney+ series. I love the idea of focusing on what else was going on. I liked the sequels, but Disney rushed the production immediately after the sale an the directors did the best they could. I think they seem more organized with what they want to do now.

Patty Jenkins background sounds perfect for Rogue Squadron, but I don;t think that is the beginning of a new trilogy. I don’t think the will return to the man saga eventually. I’d love to see Rey pass on what she’s learned and what happened to everyone else too.
