Midichlorians Are Not The Force
Time

I still don’t like the idea of midichlorians. From the OT we knew there was a likelihood of Force wielding abilities being inherited, but it was never so explicitly made scientific. There was a mysteriousness about it all.

The closest I can think of right now is Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. If you’re worthy, you can lift it. It implies that even if you’re not worthy now, you can work to improve yourself and eventually become worthy. If they made some sort of biological explanation to it, well it says you’re just plain not worthy and never will be, no matter how much you try.

Not saying everyone should be able to use the Force, but at least don’t make it come down to a blood test. Either leave it mysterious or let it be something very difficult to attain. Worthy traits are often inherited, but are not the be all end all.

I still like the prequels though.

I hate how Maul was brought back in TCW. IMO it was a terrible decision.

I thought so too for the longest time. I can’t imagine surviving being sliced completely in two. (Side note, some people didn’t see that.)

But I must say, what Filoni did with the character after he was brought back, more than makes up for it. Maul is part of several of my favorite Star Wars scenes in those animated series. When looking at the whole, I don’t mind suspending my disbelief.

They don’t really make tie-ins any more, I think the last one was Lego Force Awakens. It’s probably because the crunch time is too high and the margins are too low. Most other big franchises stopped trying too.

I think that’s because other franchises peak and decline so rapidly around the release of their respective movies, but I believe an Original Trilogy based game would still sell now. There’s a reason Lego: Skywalker Saga is so highly anticipated. Sure, some of it’s because of the well known gameplay and quality of previous titles, but I think people are also ready to relive those movies again.

Lots of scenes from the movies have been done in previous games, but as technology improves, people will want to see them again with improvements, not unlike the movies themselves releasing on a newer format.

Just my $0.02 on it all. The video game segment of Star Wars is the only part of the franchise I’ve been recently disappointed in. I just don’t care for Battlefront style play, but that is what’s most popular with everyone else I suppose.

The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

I’m most excited for Andor, because I’m a huge Rogue One fan, but after that I’m most looking forward to The Acolyte. Not just because of the High Republic setting, but because it’s described as a mystery-thriller series. That sounds very interesting, and I enjoyed Russian Doll too. Of course when the firs trailer for the Obi-Wan series rolls out, it could upset my ranking. I do love Deborah Chow’s episodes of The Mandalorian.

Happy Birthday, OT.com - now 18 years old (as of 10th March, 2021)

Thanks to everyone for their hard work. The mods for keeping this place going, and all those working to restore and preserve the original theatrical releases of a cultural phenomenon. I own the 4K UHD discs and enjoy them very much, but there is simply an entirely different feeling when I put on my Harmy discs. They are just special. I’m thankful a site like this exists to keep an important piece of history alive.

Info: My Dejarik table (sort of)
Time

I either can’t afford the Star Wars stuff I’d like, or they’re not available, so sometimes I just make things. I’m not the most talented at crafting, but I do what I can.

I had an old beat up stool with lots of dings that I was using as a plant stand, so it had stains on the top. I thought about tossing it, but needed a small table for my drink in the movie room, so I repurposed it. I wanted ot make it more Star Wars, so my girlfriend used her decal machine to make me a huge dejarik sticker for the top of it.

I’d been using it for a while when I had a new idea. Does anyone else remember the dejarik table in the original Millennium Falcon toy? For some reason it was blue and the board was yellow and brown.

I thought it would be fun to emulate that version, so I got to work. I removed the old sticker, sanded everything down, and painted a few coats of blue. My girlfriend made me a new yellow and brown top for it and here we go.

I still need to put on a couple coats of poly to protect the surface, but I’m happy with it. Most will probably think it’s just some strange looking thing, but I know the story behind it, so it’s special to me.

The Expanse - 2015-???? TV Series

I just finished S04 and was underwhelmed. For those who have viewed S05, is it markedly better?
Also, has S06 been confirmed? I know a big reason why the second trilogy was picked up was because Jeff (Amazon) Bezos was such a fan.
With him stepping down in the third quarter this year, I wondered how the new bosses regarded the series.

It was renewed for season 5 and 6 and that will be the end. There is a 30 year time jump in the books after the sixth, so that’s a good place to stop actually.

In my opinion, each season has been better than the previous. The Expanse is less of an action sci-fi and more of a drama. It’s very much a sci-fi setting and is frequently praised for its scientific accuracy, but it’s an exploration of people.

I finished LOTJ not too long ago, I absolutely loved it.
Like many of you I was worried that we would be looking at a time in the jedi that was boring but this is what I want from the Old republic to begin with! So I that shocked me.

Does anyone know the order to read the books and comics, I feel like I’m in the dark

Regarding what is currently released, as long as you read “Light of the Jedi” first, I think you’ll be fine. It’s kind of the introduction to everything.

“Into The Dark” is a young adult novel (think Harry Potter reading level) that references the events of LotJ. “A Test of Courage” is a middle-grade novel that introduces some new characters and references the events of LotJ as well. “The Great Jedi Rescue” is the children’s book version of LotJ.

This summer there will be a direct sequel to Light of the Jedi titled “The Rising Storm” and a sequel to Into the Dark titled “Out of the Shadows.” There’s also a manga and a graphic novel coming too.

There are some interesting videos about it all. The High Republic is a huge group effort. Multiple authors writing for multiple characters across the board. I think they’re doing it to where you can read as little or as much as you want. For me, I’m sticking with the adult and young adult novels for now.

Star Wars Video Games - a general discussion thread

I love the look of games like Battlefront and Fallen Order, especially when they visit familiar places, but I also love the Lego games that let you play through the movies themselves. What I really want is a game that looks as good as Battlefront and Fallen Order, that lets you play through the events of the actual movies and TV series in single player. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why every Star Wars movie and TV series doesn’t have its own game by now. EA squandered their exclusivity deal. They could have made a ton of money. There should have been Star Wars RPGs and racing games and so on.
