I will be willing to pay up to $70.00 dollars (Plus shipping and handling if needed) to whoever makes the DVD... Wide screen would be nice, but I don't care that much, and I don't need surround sound or any of that. I would like the menu to have a "Play all" command, but also a "Scene Selection" and "Play Select" command.

The DVD is a collection of short Star Wars related videos. Is it okay to post the list of videos here, or should I send a message with the list to somebody who is willing to make it?

Email me FULL details of what you want - And I'll see what I can do for ya (Well I should be able to )HERE - I'll be getting to my emails in a few hours so please be patient ~ I will get back to you tonight!

I don't care much about the other material (and I already have the DVD made from the Definitive Edition bonus LD). A 2 DVD set, with 2 documentaries on each DVD, would be fine! (as a DVD-R can easily hold 2 hours of video)

Why? Does not the ORIGINAL Special Edition deserve to also be archived?

I mean I like the SE's - I don't like greedo or jabba - but the rest is WONDERFUL - Now that the new offical DVD's are out the ORIGINAL SPECIAL EDITIONS are gone.

I have at least three YOUNGER friends that saw Star Wars the FIRST time as the Special Editions what about their memories?

NOT everyone on this board is 30-40 years old - SOME members only really know the SE's and have only seen the originals on TV riddled with commercials and some time with missing scenes.

Think about it NO MATTER how bad ANY of you feel about the SE's - THEY also deserve to be archived restored and converted form Laserdisc to DVDr - there are some out there now but I'm sure we can make a better capture - MeBeJedi - I'll send you my SE LD's for this if your down!

Sorry for the rant but man the original trilogy is NOT the only version of Star Wars the deserves to be remembered...

I thought I did .....

I did not review the TR47 set or the Dr. Gonzo as they've already been reviewd.

AND I did state it was a BLIND test - That means opinion of the a random veiwer kind like a blind Taste Test - NOT a scientific tear down of the film.

I asked a few friends over 1 of which is a diehard LOTR fan NOT a SW fan at all -

The result of the "taste-test" was C was the best

C= MeBeJedi's capture

1 fan said - "the colors are better a bit red but better on the C version"

Another fan said - "the detail on the Star Detroyer is BETTER on C"

My wife said - "The black levels are perfect - none of that faded out grey starscape"

A Non-Fan said - " Damn, that sounded GREAT and better then the others" - this was about C

I said this..................

The Video Quality...

The Picture is awesome!!!

So far the colors are the BEST I've seen yet and DAMN the video just looks so clean.............

It's apparent that this was the result of a painstaking color correction process - the gamma levels have been adjusted, contrast and the color levels (was it done HuffyYUV) have all been restored. The color seems a bit red in some scenes but it is neither distracting or overdone this seems to be a side effect of the contrast changes, it does seem to be a bit overly white on the Tantive IV but like I said it's still one of thes best - IMHO

BUT as far as the general video quality... Under my DVD players zoom feature the quality holds up....
@ 2x zoom they still look very good @ 3x zoom you say damn this is a good transfer (good job on the the VBR and color correction is perfect!) - the colors really are that good and are even better then the actually laserdiscs IMHO -

The Audio Quality...

This is the best feature yet! - THE PCM track is better then the TR47 set - IF you crank up the TR47 set there is some noise in the audio stream.... THIS set has very little noise to no noise in the audio. It's a cleaner and smoother PCM audio track then ANY other set I've heard as it has the most natural sound.

The MeBeJedi STAR WARS: A New Hope (prototype??)

THIS is ONLY 1 opinion.................... (written at 5:30am)

First,
This is not a transfer of the Definitive Collection LD's but a transfer of the "Faces" set (which is said to be of better quality)

It's like watching the film for the first time at home again!

But this time we are treated with a 15 second THX LD trailer that is followed by a 27 second "Millenium Falcon" intro which navigates straight to the main menu. This basic menu layout that thankfully lacks all the "Drama and SPFX" that most new commercial DVD's all seem to be infected with, instead MeBeJedi delievers a neat, clean basic menu layout that features an immediate chapter selection screen (witty chapter names ). The discs menu structure lacks any needless title screens and selecting a chapter is simple enough and by simply pushing your down arrow button you can highlight the commentary link which then jumps you to the appropriate commentery page which feature a brief description of the commentary for that chapter.

Again these menus are very simple and you should have no problem moving through them at all ~

2 audio formats/ 3 audio tracks

LPCM 2.0 @ 1536 kbps

WOW ~ This is a great sounding PCM and with the care that was taken in the conversion the matrixed surround track was reatained and BOY what beautiful playback you get.

AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 - THE BEST 5.1 EVER ~ It really only sounds like a perfect conversion - there is NO fake rear steering just a WONDERFUL re-encode of the original PCM - CHEERS to you on that! (it's a little quite but most DD 5.1 is)

AC3 Dolby Digital 2.0 -
And the commentary is clean but a little loud compaired the rest of the video.

OVERALL -

I did not see or here any major or noticable errors in the video or the audio other then the contrast being a bit much - BUT that is me knit picking . There are no "missing" scenes and I do not recall even seeing a side flip or a disc change and from what I saw today

- the TR47 and the Dr. Gonzo set may well soon become things of the past.

UPDATE!

OKAY - Today I had a few friends over........

I did a blind test with 4 DVD versions of the OT. For the test I put in each of the DVD's and played the first 5 minutes of each film (as the first 5 minutes really do push the limits with all the white - so the colors really stand out on the scenes on the Tantive IV

I tested it on this gear -

Projector Playback -

Projection Panel: nView Spectra C - connected via SVGA
Video processer: ViewSonic NextVision N4 - connected via SVGA
Over Head Projector: 3M 9700 - 410w/4000 lumens

TV Playback -

TV: Apex 27" - connected via S-video
DVD 1: Mintek 1600
DVD 2: Apex AD-1500

Audio Playback

Decoded via PRO-LOGIC II + DTS NEO6

The PLII was the winner here ~ The DTS was a bit to quite and the conversion created extra noise

A/V Receiver 1: Onkyo TX-SR501 - connected via TOS-LINK
A/V Receiver 2: JVC RX-315 (used to power tactile transducers)
Front Speakers: NHT New Wave x2
Center Speakers: NHT New Wave
Rear Speakers: Kenwood KS-203 x2
Center Rear: Kenwood KS-203
Sub: KLH ASW10
Tactile Transducers: AURA "Bass Shaker" AST-1B-4 x2

All three films were tested on both my TV (first) then the Projector...
Again We watched the first 5-10 minutes and skipped around the disc for other scenes (Anchorhead, Vadrer+Ben's dual and the D-Star).

The end result was that everyone (all 5 of us including my wife ) picked the MeBeJedi set for BOTH audio and visual followed by the TR47 set then the Dr. Gonzo Set.

Here are some comparison screen captures

- I'm sorry about this dial-uppers BUT quality is the point here...

I love this!

I can't believe that the only two people with the nads to get in there and RESTORE or EDIT the films are both always cathing crap!

Some of these "Fanboys" need to relax - I mean if you don't like what they are doing ignore it.

The MagnoliaFan Edits are becoming VERY VERY famous and have been very well recieved sure some folks won't like but most will....

And now the MeBeJedi Versions.. DUDE you've managed to do what no other has - Capture it right!

Your colors and sound are the STUPEDIOUS!

~ Your restoration is THE BEST and Definitive versions of the OT (Isn't Laserman doing a frame-by-frame restoration??)

I just wanted to say I support the both of you fully ~ screw the whinning fanboys!

MeBeJedi's ANH disc is different from the TR47 version because it not only carries the original PCM audio, but also an AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 mix (from the PCM), an AC3 Dolby Digital 2.0 commentary track, along with menus for audio and chapter selection. I'm skeptical on how all that stuff could be crammed in on a single disc without sacrificing picture quality, but I'm game. I'd love to check it out.

6 Disc Blaksvn "Making of the Trilogy" Set

But... I do not want 6 DVDs!!! As I said, I'm only interested in the four making-of documentaries. And I'm pretty sure that you can put 2 documentaries on 1 DVD, so 2 DVDs should be enough.

Yes, you can fit 2 docs on 1 DVD - hell I can get all four to fit on one DVD if I encode them at VBR with 2000-5000kbs...

But I'm just not gonna do that....

As to loss what quality I now have, is just not worth it - that and they were also released individually and in order to properly archive them it really should be done as they were released 1 VHS or 1 Laserdisc = 1 DVD

I already have the 4 disc Dr Gonzo anamorphic set (movies + sup. material), the 3 disc TR47 set (only the movies), I do not want my Star Wars DVD collection becoming too huge!

YOUR STAR WARS collection can NEVER and I mean NEVER be to large EVER !!!

This is whay my personal Star Wars Archive Collection consists of at this time...

- Laserdisc set - Star Wars Original Trilogy - The Faces Set

- Laserdisc set - Star Wars Original Trilogy - The "Widescreen" CBS/Fox set

- Laserdisc set - Star Wars Original Trilogy - The Special Edition Box Set

These DVD/VCD versions I have...

THE ORIGINAL FILMS

The following DVD’s are the Theatrical versions of the films, this means that there are no added scenes or special effects. Each set appears to have been sourced from the Star Wars Definitive Collection Laserdisc Box set which is the same as the Faces release - These two laser disc sets are the last known digital source for the Original Trilogy.

So what exactly differentiates this DVD set from the praised TR47 set?

MeBeJedi's ANH disc is different from the TR47 version because it not only carries the original PCM audio, but also an AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 mix (from the PCM), an AC3 Dolby Digital 2.0 commentary track, along with menus for audio and chapter selection. I'm skeptical on how all that stuff could be crammed in on a single disc without sacrificing picture quality, but I'm game. I'd love to check it out.

2nd or 3rd Pass VBR encoding is how it is achived

Thanks, MeBeJedi! It's been pretty cool watching part of the process unfold here. Kudos to you and all the people who helped out with advice. A couple more questions:

1) Am I correct in assuming that Rikter will be the point of contact for these when they're done?
2) Do you have all 3 encoded, or just ANH?
3) Will there be a supplemental features disc?

Keep up the excellent work.

1. I will only offer them AFTER a few weeks of their release by MeBeJedi

BUT I will be more than happy to host the XVID/DIVX for MeBeJedi

These are his babies and he deserves first distribution, I will follow up in like 2 weeks after.
