A question, is it worth purchasing the rare japanese Laser discs of IV ? Are they better quality then LD dvd transfers?

I was out bid the other day, but it went too high for me to rebid. $60US + $20 shipping!! I was hoping another one pops up cheaper and gets less attention.

WAY WORTH it man - I was outbid last time at $120!!!!

I do have a LD to DVDr version of it and it will also be uploaded to myspleen.net and I also think the newsgroups (If I sent a copy to Segaflip - if not I WILL!) but I did not do the transfer so if either you or I score the LD - I will do a newer and better Dual Layer transfer

Arab film director Akkad dies after Jordan blast

Reuters DUBAI, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Hollywood Arab film director Moustapha Akkad has died in hospital from wounds sustained in the hotel bomb attacks in Jordan this week, Arab television stations said on Friday. The Syrian-born Akkad had been staying in one of three luxury hotels hit by suicide bombers in Amman on Wednesday, killing at least 56 people, Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya said.

We send our best wishes to his family, friends and fans.

The best version of the extended Superman I that I can recommend to you is my edit (my digitally edited recreation of the Salkind International Edit). E-mail me and we'll discuss things.

It's a cool DVD but don't forget to mention that it is a Composite Edit and that it does jump from widescreen to fullscreen at parts and the quality varys from added footage.

I will also be uploading the AS AIRED on Australian TV in just a week or two so if you have broadband hold tight AND I will also be uploading the HipHats COMPOSITE version a week or two AFTER that

Well, howdy all! This is my first post here, although I've been lurking for a few days after being pointed here by one of the fine fiolks at rpgnet.

Let me just say that this site, and these re-edits, and the fact that peopel do them, and the people that do them, are all very, very cool.

YEARS ago, in the ancient days of the mid-'80s, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, I did a re-edit of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, shaving about 45 minutes out of it, which helped. The version on the new(ish) Director's Edition dvd well makes up for the fact that that old edit of mine no longer exists. This was before DVDs, in fact before digital anything. Well, okay, I bought my first cd thje same year (it was either ELO's "Out of the Blue" or Van Halen's "Diver Down"), and about 10 years before I would own my own computer, back when diskette's and Syquest discs were really cool. I'm just now getting to a point in terms of hardware and software where I'm able to look into doing re-edits again. I love movies and I love Star Wars. I was the only person I knew who knew about A New Hope before it came out, because I had a subscription to Starlog magazine. I saw it 7 times at the theatre, riding my bike five miles there and back every time, and it probably changed my life, or at least cemented me into alife of geekdom, just in case years of Star Trek reruns and Planet of the Apes movies hadn't already done that. I went to film school for a couple of years, with dreams of making Lord of the Rings movies. Peter Jackson seems to have taken care of that fairly well (though I'd still like to see a 40-hour BBC miniseries version!). Currently I work as a professional illustrator, graphic designer, and (mostly) as a comic book colorist. I'm currently looking into SiteGRinder as a way to design websites straight from Photoshop (with which I am a bit of wiz, if I may say so). I have a wife and two kids, and am trying to figure out how old they have to be to watch ANH...

Why all that? Well, I didn't want anyone to think I was just some greedy schlmeil off the streets when I say that I'd saw off a leg for DVDs of MagnoliaFan's latest versions of Balance of the Force and Clone War and...whatver else he has. Looks like he has ESB in the can (?). Either leg will do - I make a living sitting.

Some kind soul could PM me.

- Drop me an email; I'm interested in your left leg...

Blade Runner HDTV (Released)
Time
Word is that this HD version MAY be (and I really really stress MAY BE) nothing more then a UPSCALED version of the actual DVD, HDNET has upscaled a bunch of films for HD broadcast and as they do not have HD masters (at this time) they upscale & process the existing DVD's for HD broadcast - I may be wrong but I don't think that the B.R. is true HD based on the pictures posted it looks like an upcscaled film (the HD version looks a bit more washed out and the taillights and street signs have finer definition on the DVD capture)

I may be wrong but if this was a real HD version don't you think it would be all over the net (like digitalbits and that WB mastered the film in HD and don't you think that TNT (has the BR rights to broadcast), Showtime (I think they have the rights) and the other HD channels would be showing it now also? Again I may be wrong...

NEW -
Superman: The Movie - The International Salkind Cut (NON-Composite)
TomahawkJ VHS transfer and Angrysun DVD authoring

Running Time: 188 minutes (NTSC) - This alternate and VERY, VERY rare Recorded as aired NON-composite version includes all known footage. As the film and its sequels enjoyed its popularity in the early 1980’s, producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind took it upon themselves to prepare the film for its eventual television broadcast. In order to market the film to television stations around the world, the Salkinds re-edited the film with approximately 45 minutes of additional footage not released in theaters. Whereas Richard Donner had complete directorial control in editing the film for theatrical release, the Salkinds had control of the film for international distribution and television marketing, and the film was re-edited without Donner’s approval. The added footage brought the running time of the film to 188 minutes, the longest known version of the film to be assembled and shown to audiences around the world.

In addition to the many added scenes, a number of musical cues from John Williams’ original soundtrack were restored to the film, some of them not heard in the theatrical release of the film nor on the popular two-disc soundtrack album. Additional cues underscoring scenes on Krypton, the planet’s destruction, and Otis’ journey through the Metropolis subway tunnels were heard for the first time, while other cues underscoring the launch of Kal-El’s starship, Superman intercepting and hurling the missile into space, the aftershocks of the earthquake, and Superman in action, all previously heard on the original soundtrack album, were restored to the context of the film.

Two longer versions have been released since the original film ... one on ABC in 1981 at approx. 182 minutes, and the other on KCOP in Los Angeles in 1994 at approx. 188 minutes. Both contain footage and music not used in the theatrical version, including extensions of the destruction of Krypton, Smallville, Fortress of Solitude, Daily Planet, and earthquake scenes. Many people believe that KCOP was the first station that screened the 188 minute version in 1994, in fact this version was screened regularly in the 1980s on European and Australian Television, and so technically it should not be known exclusively as the KCOP cut. The Euro/Oz cut feature all the scenes on the KCOP version.

The version presented here on this fan created DVD was recorded as aired on Australian television in 1982. The quality of this transfer is fair, for a twenty three years old home recorded video tape. Sadly, the film is cut just right before Superman flashes his smile to the camera before the end credits and therefore the film is missing the last 15 seconds of the film and the last 4-5 minutes of end credits.

And to those that are not aware, this is a PAL transfer and this means that the film is being shown 4% faster than it was originally intended to be shown, the most obvious effect of this 4% speedup is that the film runs for 4% less time.

New Torrent up!

Willard: The Ratman’s Cut
Fan Edit by The Ratman
Running Time: 01:50:11

Fan edit based on the workprint version of the film – Willard is one of the most underrated remake films ever and this edit only makes it sweeter - the edits are near seamlessly cut into the film and really do add to the overall dark gothic feel and is a MUST HAVE if you enjoyed the remake or the original 1971 film.

ADDITIONS:
*A long scene between Willard and Cathryn at the office, working after hours.
*A scene of Willard's mother almost catching him as he's leaving to sic the rats on Mr. Martin's car.

ALTERATIONS:
*An alternate shot featuring Mr. Martin's assistant cursing the fact she has to give him a foot massage.
*Mr. Martin is now seen attending Willard's mother's funeral.
*The original version of Willard getting fired is re-instated. This features harsher language by Mr. Martin.
*Longer scene of Cathryn in the bathroom, and Willard finding Scully the cat's mutilated corpse.
*An extended version of the ending.

And it’s done…

~PULP FICTION~

OK I took the movie “Pulp Fiction” and edited it so the whole movie runs in chronological order. From start to finish you get the story as it unfolds without jumping back and forth in the timeline of this movie. The only scene that is still out of place is the opening prologue, which I wanted to cut as a split screen with the later scene, but couldn’t get it to work to my expectations so I left it where it was. The only part of this film that was cut completely was the scene with the guy in the bathroom while Samuel L. Jackson gave his Ezekiel speech. Other than that it’s all here and in order.

Also for this disc I had to go in and personally re-master the 5.1 sound mix so that it would work well when jumping from scene to scene. Because of this some music cues have changed slightly but you would be hard pressed to find where without watching this back to back with the official DVD release of the film.

I again designed the menus and the picture is in anamorphic widescreen so everything looks as nice as humanly possible. I have designed a cover for this project (unlike “The Evil Dead” and “The Dark Side of Oz” projects) and I hope to have it posted on the web soon.

I’m just letting you guys know that this is out and to see what kind of interest there is for this disc. I’ll let you know what is going on with this disc in a short while. So as of now just consider this “Coming Soon!”

COMING SOON to the TORRENTS!!!!!

Again, Crappy Logo Productions has stunned me with the most impressive menus I've seen on a fan created disc AND the story runs smoothly in chronological order. THIS is another great disc that would compliment your official release (and it also has a great cover!!)

I'll be forward this DVD along to Segaflip in hopes of a newsgroup release (along with the Dark side of Oz)

Diggity!
