Christmas Traditions and Santa's Friends REQUESTING HELP FROM UK CITIZENS, SEE PAGE 4
Time

My family doesn't decorate until a week or so before Christmas, and we don't begin celebrating it until Christmas Eve. We observe the Catholic season of Advent in the three to four weeks preceding Christmas, and continue celebrating Christmas into the New Year, since the liturgical season of Christmas continues until the Feast of the Epiphany. Thus, Christmas music and goodies will have to wait about three more weeks. I find it makes the actual day feel more special, but it really depends what traditions you're brought up with.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

As I posted in the other thread, I have mixed feelings. Some things I like, others I didn't, much I don't either like or dislike. The closer I looked, however, the more I liked what I saw. It seems there has been much attention to detail, including making things look used. I don't have much of a problem with the silly-looking droid, as long as it doesn't end up being the next Jar Jar. Camera shakes and whatnot are more a product of modern movie-making rather than J.J.'s personal style. I didn't like the voiceover much either, but naturally, that isn't any indication of the final product.

I'm neither excited nor disappointed by the teaser. I expect the movies to have their own style distinct from the PT and OT, but keep true to the OT in some aspects, while not ignoring the PT at the same time. I expect to enjoy the movie, but I think it's safe to say that it will not be a classic. The OT was classic, and it just cannot be done again within the same saga. The expectations and level of cynicism are too high nowadays, and it would be extremely difficult to capture the same balance found in the OT without being accused of copying the OT outright.

I think so. Is it because you thought the rest sucked, or because you really liked the droid? I liked that the droid really felt like it belonged in Star Wars, even if was a little weird. But since I like originality, I can't complain. The droid looks like it has an efficient design, assuming the technology is available to make its head stay on easily.

And TIE Interceptors are way cooler! I hope we see more fighters like that, and a greater variety, or at least more advanced TIEs. TIEs don't seem to have a particularly great design. It's easy to shoot them down with such huge wings. One would expect them to be slimmed down a little in later models, which is why I'm hoping they're either old, or they're new in a way I couldn't see in that quick shot.

-I hate that soccer ball droid. How's his R2 head staying on? Looks so silly.

Magnetic power of some kind.

Again, use your imagination people! This is not Star Trek, were everything have to be explained on screen with lousy concepts. This is Star Wars, were the lousy concepts are the ones the fans should bring during discussions with their friends! Anyone have the right to not like the look of that droid. But saying that you "hate" a 3 seconds video clips of that cute little droid because you don't understand how its head stands on its body... Come on. Maybe it will be your favorite character in the end! ;)

This. Although I'm not a fan of the droid, I don't hate it. Many, many aspects of the OT didn't, and don't make sense. Yet when similar things pop up in newer films, they're criticized and torn to bits. I think Ray has the right to his opinion, and I'm not criticizing him for it, but complaining about technological aspects of the movie (as distinct from story, which does need to make sense) when the OT was plagued with things that didn't make sense is silly, if you think the OT was amazing at the same time. It's hard to make sequels to classic movies and make them good enough for people to be happy with them, so don't be too picky or you'll end up with negative feelings about the trilogy for sure.
