Who'd like to try a chess variant? Now playing Xiang Qi, a.k.a. Chinese chess
Time

Wow, I didn't see that coming. I knew my horse was pinned, but for some reason, that obvious move didn't occur to me.

I would love to play Korean chess, but I don't want to be interrupted by my return home right at the peak of the game. This game took us about two weeks, and I leave in less time than that....

It looks like it solves a few minor flaws of Chinese chess (the limitation of the elephant, the uselessness of the pawns, and the immobility of the king), but the cannon not being able to move except by jumping seems limiting While it may work well in Ito Shogi where there's always a piece to jump over, it will weaken the piece a lot in this game. Maybe that won't turn out to be a bad thing. Have you tried playing it already? How have you found it?

How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4
Time

I can't believe it...when I made that move, I had confused the silver cannon and the flying falcon (I wasn't thinking of it as a cannon at all). Now I feel silly.

I'll let you decide whether that merits being taken back or if I just need to pay more attention. ;)

EDIT: To save time if you choose the former, I would move SC-20.

I would certainly enjoy another game of Ito Shogi. It's been a while since we played.

G-22

Goodness, that's a long board. How does it work in Zillions? Zillions doesn't seem to allow scrolling, necessitating visibility of the whole board, which I can't imagine would work well with such a long one.

Also, are we allowing only weak-side-up drops? That seemed to be our consensus last time we played, but I'm not sure if the rules you sent me had an error in that regard, or if you had changed your mind about it.

I really hate when the word 'random' is used in place of 'various'.
This site has several offending thread titles, but I can deal. It's been popping up everywhere in go though.
It bugs me almost as much as hearing people say "I could care less".
At least it doesn't have the opposite meaning of what is meant.

Like it or not, it's a well-established English phrase, though I avoid using it myself at all costs (not quite all, but a good number of them).
