How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4

No, I had several plans anyway, accounting for several of your different options, so you would have only delayed checkmate by a few turns, unless you had done something unexpected.

I kind of want to work up through the larger variants, beginning with Heian Dai Shogi, then moving on to Dai Shogi, Tenjiku Shogi, Dai-Dai Shogi, Maka-Dai-Dai Shogi, and finishing with Tai Shogi.

It could take a while to play them all, and I know you're less of a fan of the long and big game than I am, so if you don't want to do that, that's OK with me too. We don't have to play them all, either, unless you want to (which would be great ;)). We can also alternate between large and small variants if you wish.

If someone wants to play a three player game, I'd be OK with playing simultaneous games, or taking a break from the large variant to play that.

Do you mean Bx5a? I have no pieces on row e that you can take and your bishop can't take any of my pieces besides that one. If that's your move, Rx5a+

Playing nonsuicidally (is that a real word? ;) ) doesn't look much better.  I would have simply taken your gold with my bishop instead, at which point you would take my bishop with your knight and promote it, which means I'd have to retreat my rook where you would surely have it trapped by so many promoted pawns and knights supporting each other.  There was no hope of keeping my rook, and the best I could do is try to save my bishop by not taking your gold (which would result in a loss of the rook as well), or not taking your knight right now with my bishop (which drags it out and does little to lengthen my game).

True.

You've pwned me this game, completely legitimately, and I'll never underestimate you or make such hasty moves in the beginning with you again.

 Darn it! ;)

Did you make an alternate move at that point? If you click onto a different move on a line which has two or more move notations, then it will show the following moves. But in case that isn't the problem, here you are (promoted pieces in bold, your pieces capitalized, and mine lowercase):

L--R--KN-
-P-N-B---
Pppn-G-PP
--P---P--
-----Sb--
p--s-----
--pp-pppp
-l--r-gsl
l----g-nk

My pieces in hand: pppgs
