Wow that's crazy, I've never heard of that but I'm glad I know now.  Isn't that the same type of shit they do with commercials to make them seem louder even though they really aren't?  I never imagined they would do it with music as well, but I should've known...

Would a lossless (flac) versions of the album correct that issue, or is it there forever because it was mastered that way?

Loudness war?  I'm unfamiliar.

Could it be because of the manner in which it was recorded?  She recently bought a farm in Vermont and recorded most of the album in a barn retrofitted as a studio.  The result was a very different sound, but I like it a lot, one of the reasons Middle Cyclone is my favorite album of hers.  If you have it really loud you can hear certain 'farm noises' in the background.

The Bowman. Gotta remember that!

The last movie I watched was Matchstick Men.

It's won the 2002 slot in my favorite films year-by-year list, which will be posted on here after it is completed. ;-)

Matchstick Men is great.  I'm interested in seeing this list, I have one of my own (in a word document somewhere).  I've kept up with it since I started in '04 when I was in high school :p

I just watched Spence's cut of RotJ and it was awesome.  I fell asleep three times trying to watch DJ's V3, but Spence tightened up the action significantly.  Plus, duel of the fates during Luke v. Vader = badass.

My ex-gf is a huge Neko Case fan and got me into her in a big way. (My expanded music collection is probably the best thing I got out of that relationship! lol) "Look for Me (I'll Be Around)" off Blacklisted has got to be one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard.

My uncle is a promoter for local venues, and last year he brought Neko to my small college town, and I got VIP seating and everything, it was amazing.  She's very good live, and her shows are usually pretty inexpensive.

I randomly came across Blacklisted the other day...really glad I did.

Everything she puts out is great, you should check out Furnace Room Lullaby, Canadian Amp, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood and Middle Cyclone if you haven't all ready.  And they're all pretty different too, which is nice.

Plus there is a deleted scene from ESB where Luke and Leia move in for a kiss in the medical bay. If she was indeed intended to be his sister all along then George is one twisted guy ;)

Carrie Fisher looks really hot in that interview.  Just sayin'.

Some of its biggest stumbles along the way seems to have been from trying to cater to fans (Jack's tattoo episode, etc.)

Jack's tattoo episode had nothing to do with catering to fans. They wrote that episode because they were spinning their wheels waiting for ABC to allow them a definitive end date. In season 3, you can tell they were dragging their feet because they didn't know if they had 3 more seasons or 6 to tell their story.

Lindelof called up the powers that be at ABC and said, basically, "Look, if you don't let us have an end date to the series, you're going to get more episodes about Jack's tattoo. This show can't go on forever."

Yeah, another example is Whatever the Case May Be from season 1.  ABC just added a few more episodes to the season so they had to come up with some filler, and it's just really obvious and really poorly done.  And then all of a sudden the show just takes off in the middle of season 3 once they have everything decided.  Obvious.

Network pressure has resulted in things the like season 2 jump shark of Twin Peaks, the rearrangement of season 1 of Firefly, season 3's format change of Veronica Mars, etc.  No matter how good a show is or how talented everyone is who's involved in it, to the network, the bottom dollar is the bottom line, and that's all that matters.

I find myself recently missing the journey, missing the mysteries. Not that I would watch the whole thing again, I just miss a quality show that I could discuss endlessly with my friends.

I feel the same way, but I'll probably watch it all over again once I get it on Blu one day.  That won't be for a while anyway.

I can send you the schedule and you can join in!

I've always wanted to watch Twin Peaks but never have, I want in!

- Neko Case

I love Neko in The New Pornographers, and somehow I don't think I've heard a single solo song of hers.

The opposite for me, I've heard of the new pornographers but never listened to them.  All of her solo work is amazing, particularly her most recent album Middle Cyclone.  Her voice is just haunting.
