My theater was pretty empty to begin with, and everyone in it except my friends and I were over 60, so it was pretty calm.  I could definitely see how people would react to it badly if they didn't know what to expect though.

My dad was like that in some ways, but he's an Italian immigrant and that's how he was raised.  But, like Jack, I eventually came to terms with that.  But what I mostly meant was all the experiences - we saw Jack learn how to love, hate, pity, feel shame, and overall develop his personality and world outlook.  It's amazing to see it all happening on screen, exactly as it happens in life.

Another thing, the special effects in the 'universe scene' were mind-blowing, especially considering they didn't use CGI to do it.

Sean Connery is the best part of Last Crusade.

Anyway, my last movie seen was Black Swan. Never watch 2001, Fight Club, The Wall, Clockwork Orange, Moon, and Black Swan in a row. Your mind will explode.

I agree with 100% of these things, and that movie marathon sounds awesome (as long as you end with Mullholland Dr.)

I thought Black Swan was the best movie of the year last year, by the way.

Hands-down The Sandlot.  I still love that movie to this day.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

Way too much hate in this thread.

Dark Knight was loads better than Begins.   How many times do I need the goddamn train engineer to remind me that he's "about to crash into the building any minute!"  I mean, I liked it, but nowhere near the level of Dark Knight - it doesn't even compare.

And I'm gonna go ahead and not give up on this movie just because of three or four on-set photos.  That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

No, I got it from him personally, since it's against the rules to use tv rips in fan edits.  I'd probably just wait till this version is finished, because the quality will be way better, and I'm sure he'll fix things that didn't work great in the first version.

How could you possibly put Terminator 3 above Salvation.  Terminator Salvation is the greatest movie ever.  Right up there with Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo.

As bad as Salvation was, I kind of enjoyed it. I actually haven't seen the majority of the movies of my "Top Ten" movies, but the ones I have seen are all movies I consider superlatively bad. Terminator 3 is one of those movies I truly loath. Just thinking about it makes me squirm in my seat a bit.

Terminator: Salvation, despite its many various and serious flaws, was a better movie in my opinion, but I think Terminator 3 is more in line with the original two, stylistically and in storytelling.   Neither come close to Terminator 2, of course.

The flash side-ways were really the only good thing about season six, IMHO. The problem for me was with the island storyline, and the final explanation of the true nature of the flash-sideways. Since Sunrep's plan is to simply cut out all the flash-sideways and along with parts of the island storyline that connect to them, I don't think it is going to fix what I didn't like about season six.

I thought the same thing, 3PX, but I got an earlier version of his edit and checked out the first few episodes.  He actually cut out a lot of the pointless/repetitious on-island parts of season six and kept most of the good/necessary parts in, while at the same time substituting the flash-sideways scenes for flashbacks of the island (from things like Ab Eterno and Across the Sea).  So it still maintains the form on Lost (on-island along with flashes) while taking out the sideways.

Really worth checking out at least.

The Hobbit movie: Dwarves
Time

In real life it's dwarfs and elfs but in Tolkien's it's dwarves and elves.

Anyway, I'm a big Tolkien fan, and have read everything published by his estate, and I have to say I'm really excited about the movie.  I think Jackson has it under control just like he did Lord of the Rings.

I think the dwarves look great, Fili and Kili not excluded (they have to have someone for girls to put posters of in their rooms!).  I think, being a visual version of the book, the different dwarves will actually stand out better, and be more recognizable as their individual characters rather that just 'one of the dwarves'.

Sure, there are going to be differences, and they will piss people off (skyjedi).  But when making a movie based on such a rich and detailed book there's only so much justice that can be done without making a seven hour movie that no one wants to sit through.

The important thing is that the people making the movie (Jackson, his team, Weta digital, etc.) really care about the source material.  They're all huge fans of Tolkien, and I think that's key in making a quality representation of his book.

You didn't have anyone to "watch it with"?  To me, the experience of the show was very social.  Perhaps you could compare it to last year's super bowl?  You know no one else is watching what you're watching or really cares about it anymore despite the fact that everyone* did a year back.

What xhonzi says.

Exactly.  Every week I'd watch it with a small group of people, and then throughout the week everyone would debate the possibilites of what was happening, or going to happen.  And we would all notice little things and point them out to each other, such as a repeating phrase or symbol, or the color of someone's clothing.  It was totally immersive.

¡BIG LOST SPOILERS!

RE: Changing the past - I think it's the former, that they couldn't change the past, and season five was just a huge waste of time (for some of the characters).  But just because they wasted their time doesn't mean we (the viewers) did.  I think it's sort of unprecedented that they had this huge finale and this whole bomb/canging-the-past storyline and it all failed miserably.  They were still in denial of the fact that they were actually brought to the island for a puspose, and in fighting against it they ended up killing one  of their friends (Juliet).  And then, once they realized it at the beginning of season six they all started dealing with it in their own ways: Jack finally started to 'give in' to the island, and James became a depressive loner.

But regardless of all this, on its own merits season five was great.  The time travel storyline, the action, the mysteries.   It was all so fast paced, entertaining, and well made.  Remarkable television.
