DVD’s were still new during that time period. Now if I remember correctly, the DVD was technically invented in 1995. But most countries didn’t have them. Mainly because, the cost of DVD’s were expensive and other platforms like VHS or LaserDisc were also still available and people had already adjusted to them. Plus they were still making improvements to make them more versatile. Anyway, the worldwide release for the DVD in 2000 was the right move considering the year 2000 was a new millennium. The new era of technology.

But sometimes luck can go your way. Hopefully today considering its Saint Patrick Day

Yeah. I search a specific title and the complete opposite comes up. Whenever I seem to find one on Discogs, the next day they’re gone. So its pretty frustrating considering how much time I spend trying to find one.

Though this wasn’t always the case. A white label didn’t have to be a promo. For some countries like Argentina, it could have a standard lp face with words translating to “Not for sale. Promotional copy only” or something on the lines like that.

Standard Lp face (Promo) for Empire Strikes Back (Argentina): The words “Difussion prohibida su venta” are the words stating that it is a promo copy.

But it can also come down to the distributor. For Star Wars, there was a promo but it wasn’t a white label either.

RSO were generally known for making white label promo’s for the Star Wars soundtracks but in 1977, the rights for the Star Wars soundtracks were given to 20th Century Fox (As they were the a part of the production set for the movie) but weren’t particularly known for white labels (giving reason why there wasn’t one). Until 1980, when the rights were given to RSO. They made the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi soundtracks. But, according to https://www.discogs.com/John-Williams-Star-Wars-Return-Of-The-Jedi-The-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/master/55429, there is no documentation of a white label promo for Return of the Jedi. But some speculate that there is but you can never really be sure. Because the images provided (if provided) are from those who own the album because you can edit the database. I am a collector and I’ve trying to find these for years. Given why I have so much knowledge on this topic.

Does anyone know?

I recently bought a CD varient of this soundtrack unware that is the in fact a record verison. So I got excited and started searching the web for one. I finally found one on eBay but, I did some futher reasearch and apparently, there is a white label promo verison as well. So I got excited again and started looking for a white label promo (the difference between a white label and a regular record label is that a white label was made before the actual record was released to the public. It also (obviously)had a white label on the centre of the record where you would place the record on the player and it was a promotion copy (hence why its called a promo). So I eventually found one not realising that it was a previous auction that had ended on August 2015:(. So ever since I discovered the white label for this particular record, I havent stopped looking for it since and now Im tried. So basically, I need help. Does anyone own one and is willing to sell, does anyone know anyone who owns one and does anyone know if there is any other records shops online (Ive seen almost all of them)? Appreciate any help possible as this means a lot to me.

For me personally, from growing up watching A New Hope, there are many scenes that I like. But if I had to simplify it to one, it would be the scene on Tatooine with the binary sunset. Every time I listen to that scene, it gives me goosebumps. I guess it’s just grows into you after time. John Williams did a phenomenal job.

Now please, no more negative talk. This was meant to be an enjoyable discussion referring to TPM. I’m happy to hear you dislikes or approvals about the film, but there need in starting an argument because we disagree with a statement.

I’ve grown up with several movies (not just Star Wars) over my time and to this day, I still watch them. They can never get boring no matter how many times I watch it. If you love so Star Wars so much, then you wouldn’t particularly dislike a Star Wars movie. The only reason I don’t praise Disney’s Installment to the Star Wars universe is because I grew up into a different generation of Star Wars. Where life was fun and no criticism was made. But in saying that, I can still watch the Disney’s trilogy even though I dislike it. You enjoy a movie more if it’s a movie you hate. Every movie has it faults.

I disagree totally. TPM is definitely not as bad compared to Disney’s installment. But I have my reasons.

I think there is more than 2 imports for TPM on VCD. Which one’s do you have?

I know. That’s why I said “almost”. But, most of the visual effects were CGI except mainly the spaceship/control station scenes. The spaceship from the negotiations scene was defiantly an old school model explosion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd6sbCi4qgA). As was the scene near the end when Anakin Skywalker blew up the Control Ship and Yoda (before the release of the DVD) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFcWCpxynuA) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz8RgJ_9lwc). Also, the DVD releases for TPM aren’t particularly that bad compared to other home video releases. It’s much better then the VCD and possibly better then the VHS in some aspects. Though, the Laserdisc release will always be the better way to watch the original theatrical version of TPM.

Anyone own TPH on Video CD? I’m fondly interested in that topic particularly?

Might I add, TPM also has a lot of historically moments in terms of movie technology and home video. TPM was one of the first movies to be (almost) fully CGI, TPM introduced us to the first interactive CGI character, and TPM also introduced Star Wars to DVD.

I personally wouldn’t say I like the prequels more than OT, but they are definitely better then Disney’s trilogy.

Honestly, its not even the worst of the whole saga.

Isn’t the 4K Boxset from BestBuy?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew what the cover was for the Hong Kong release of The Phantom Menace on DVD. Because I want to by the Hong Kong version of The Phantom Menace on VCD and when I found it on a website, it states that it is a DVD and it looks just like the VCD cover. If so, the website I found it on, doesn’t provide any photos for the inside or back so I’m unable to identify it. Unless Hong Kong doesn’t have a DVD release? But I don’t know. Please help!

Now that I’ve heard it, it defiantly sounds like the Emperor’s death from Return of the Jedi.
