Like I said, I don't doubt that he'll make more changes to the original trilogy, but I would be shocked and awed if even half of the items on that BS list came to pass.

John Williams is on record for saying that he's going to rescore A New Hope, so I would believe that Lucas has ambitions for the music. I just don't forsee another major overhaul of the entire trilogy.

I'm going to jump out my window if Williams adds in the Imperial March to ANH, I think the Empire's theme from the movie is fine just as it is, and if I had been doing the prequels, I would have focused on using that theme instead of the overused Darth Vader's theme.

Trentobi, where did Williams say he was rescoring ANH? I'm against it, but I will be interested to see what is done regardless.

I don't believe all the things in that change list, but the sad thing is, I wouldn't put it past Lucas to do such things. I was watching the old Making of ROTJ video tape and he was talking about if (in 1983) he could redo Star Wars, he could make it SO MUCH better than what it was.

I think Lucas will tinker with this film until the day he dies. I know artists never feel there work is complete, but Lucas has taken this to the extreme. I think he finds watching the original to be painful and he HATES it and HATES us for liking the film the way that it is.

So we are made to pay for Lucas' insecurities as a filmmaker.

George, it was good the way that it was.

Okay, what did we LIKE about the Special Editions?
Time
Yeah Hot Rod, I think Red Leader is way cool! His helmet had the best design and I love his death scene.

Surprisingly, other than Gold Leader (Angus McGinnis), I didn't recognize any of the other Rebel pilots from Death Star battle in the scene. Even "Wedge" is not played by Denis Lawson, though Lawson did dub over his voice ("That's impossible, even for a computer!")

At the end of the movie, we see three other Rebel pilots greet Luke when he gets back. I think one might be Denis Lawson, (though if he is, he's carrying the wrong helmet)

Any theories as to who was flying the Y-Wing that escaped the Death Star with Luke, Wedge and the Falcon?

role of C3PO in new Ep I & II
Time
Next to Anakin, C-3PO was the most poorly conceived character in the prequel trilogy.

Anakin built C-3PO??? How utterly ridiculous. I guess Shmi just took him with her whenever Watto sold her?

Isn't C-3PO a protocol droid, well versed in all the customs, fluent in over 6,000,000 forms of communication? Wouldn't it have made more sense storywise for Threepio to be in the diplomatic service, either on Naboo, with the Jedi, or even with the Senate?

Of course, Owen doesn't recognize him in ANH. Oh yeah, different color scheme, yeah, that's right... sure.

One would think that an R2 unit would be easier to build from scratch than a humanoid protocol droid, but that's just my opinion.

C-3PO's lines in the OT are still all pretty funny and come from the character and make sense (especially in ANH and TESB, ROTJ has a few groaners, but I'll forgive them) However, the whole putting his head on the battledroid was such a pathetic farce: "This is such a drag"??? (I'll bet GL laughed his head off when they came across that part in the first cast script reading, though I am sure the rest of the cast and crew just started inspecting the creases in their pants.)

I agree Gundarkhunter, while as a fan, I was happy to see the Biggs scene, it really doesn't make sense to have it unless you put the other one from the beginning of the film there as well.

I can totally understand why they cut the scenes. After all, ANH only happens over the course of a few days at the most. Are we to believe the Biggs left Tatooine--->jumped ship from the Rand Ecliptic--->went to Bestine--->met his friend's "friend"--->who got them in touch with the Rebellion--->made it in--->was vetted and cleared by the Rebels--->then assigned to Red Squadron on Yavin IV?

All within the same time period that Luke gets R2-D2 and C-3PO and has his own adventure on the Death Star?

Also, why did they clip Red Leader's lines about meeting Luke's father when he was a boy?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Just thought I'd throw this out there...

While we all have issues with the Special Editions, I think its fair to say that there are some additions that we actually like. I'm very picky so when I thought about it, I could think of three (actually four) additions (one for each movie) that I really liked. I wanted to know what additions people here actually liked.

1. The new shot of the Millenium Falcon approaching Yavin in A New Hope. Very dynamic.

2. The extended shot of Slave 1 tracking the Millenium Falcon and the additional shots during the approach to Cloud City in Empire.

3. The Bantha herd in ROTJ

How do u all like Eps I & II compare to OT
Time
I don't hate the PT as much as I am just profoundly disappointed by it. So many missed opportunities and only occasional glimpses or what was captured in the OT. Yes, I love Star Wars and was one of the fortunate kids to have grown up with it, but that did not make me so biased that I refused to even give the prequels a chance. On the contrary, I wanted it to succeed and was one of those who went into the theater to see the TPM trailer, and then left. I thought it was a brilliant trailer and I had a lump in my throat at the end of it. I was so looking forward to it. What I saw was a very lackluster drama full of inconsistencies and plot holes with tons and tons of CGI thrown on top to cover it up and distract. Do we really need fart and burp jokes?

I agree Patrick, somewhere along the way during his 20+ years away from the director's chair, Lucas forgot the edge that made the OT, particularly ANH and ESB so powerful. He started softening things up with ROTJ with the Ewoks, then continued to cut the gnads off with the Special Editions; now the circle is coming complete as the PT is more of "his vision" and if you ask him, he almost assuredly will say he loves the PT more than the OT.

Don't worry, I will be in line at midnight come May, 2005. It's the last Star Wars, for better or worse and must continue the tradition. Some of the stuff that has filtered out looks very good. We can only hope.

Plus Natalie Portman is so sexy. Only a child could possibly like Return of the Jedi more then Attack of the Clones.

jimbo, not to be mean or anything, but how old are you? How many films have you actually seen? I'm curious as to what criteria you base the quality of films on.

While AOTC was a vast improvement over TPM, it still had a long way to go to even come close to the original trilogy. I think the story is a jumbled mish-mash of confusing plot threads (wtf is Sifo Dyas???; was that supposed to be Dooku? What was the whole Clone Wars about? What exactly do the Separatists want?) None of this stuff is even remotely explained. I know, I know, it will all be clear in Episode III... sorry, but I didn't just come in from the moisture farm.

The story-telling in AOTC is not brilliant. The action is well choreographed, but seems more technical fluff and a chance to showcase the talents of ILM rather than helping to move the storyline forward. Yes, Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, but that doesn't save her from the dreadful dialogue she had to recite. As good an actress as she is, she cannot do the impossible, same with the talented Hayden Christensen.

If Lucas pulls off the miracle and makes Episode III the kick-ass perfect Star Wars movie that we all hope and dream that it might be, then I will happily eat my crow at days end. I want to like Episode III, I really do, but TPM and AOTC have been very disappointing.

Call me a child if you want, but Jedi is still superior in my book (despite its many faults) to AOTC.
