The BluRay set includes the THX Optimizer, which (in the future) will communicate with THX Optimized TVs, Players, and Recievers to alter your home viewing experience to exactly what George intends it to be...
I wonder if future versions will seek out copies of Harmy's version on your hard drive and delete them. Or worse yet, change them.
He might have died of euphoria over the blu-rays.

but if you take the whole Father/son aspect out of the story , Where is Vader's motivation?
His motivation for what? The plots for ESB and ROTJ aren't the only possible sequel storylines.

Alright, he may have not have been a trickster the whole time, but I still think he didn't care about the continuity of the six films at all, and he has contempt for SW being successful from the beginning. Does that opinion make sense?
No it still doesn't. He worked very hard to get SW made and to get buy-in from so many people. It was his baby, and he was making other good movies at the time too. I think it's a lot simpler and more believable that as he got older, all the success and accolades went to his head. He isn't the first artist to have lost his edge, and he also isn't the first artist to get all full of himself.
You're trying to make up a bunch of backstory and turning it into some sort of saga, when really he's just become a rich old miserly curmudgeon.

Oh and 1 more thing, if you really want that kind of traffic then you should have just left your project here and not left in the first place, I mean it is not like GL can't find your blog lol.
DJ, I think the point of his leaving was to minimize the chance of his project endangering OT.com. Because, technically you're not even supposed to own a 35mm print, which makes his project different than the rest of ours.
Been hammered at work. But I did go through what Adywan sent me. The adjusted colors look great. It will probably be a week before I have a chance to start going through it piecing all of the bits together. But it's getting close!
Generalfrievious, when you go back and read what you wrote, does it actually seem believeable to you? Because to me it reads like one of George's ridiculous ideas for a prequel script.
When this thing is done, I'm definitely going to organize a party to watch it with some friends and family. Maybe two parties.
While it's true that Vader being Luke's dad made for an arguably strong storyline, I think that there could have been better possible storylines, that could have led to an even better saga. I know it's hard to imagine such things because we've had 30 years with the whole thing revolving around Vader being Luke's dad. But that doesn't mean that a richer, wider universe couldn't have been created without that theme.
In my opinion, Yoda, Jabba, and the Emperor are terrific characters that enriched the movies tremendously. However, making so many of the main characters related was simplistic, and a better story-teller could have come up with a better theme. Of course, that's just my opinion.
The whole saga would have been better, because the universe wouldn't have ended up so small and the storylines wouldn't be so constricted.

I should be able to get the OOT at my local BestBuy or Amazon right now, like every single film ever made since 1895.
Er, something like 85% of feature silent films have been lost. You might want to change your 1895 to something like 1940.
I just received Adywan's color corrections and will start going through them tonight. We're almost there!
When the interviewer asked him about Hugo, I wonder if the reason was to get his opinion about 3D, or whether it was to get his opinion about the STORY, which was about FILM PRESERVATION. It could have been both. Of course, the latter flew right over George's head, because he doesn't think about things like story or film preservation.
He clearly thinks we are a bunch of idiots.
I was considering checking out TPM3D this weekend, but after reading this interview I changed my mind.
Regarding the burn mark, I suggest making a seamless branching option in the menu, so the user can select with or without burn mark :)
Seriously, another option is to include it in your "making of" documentary.
I vote against the burn mark. A real restoration of the film would remove it, because it wasn't part of making or printing the film. It is damage after the fact. If someone had spilled coffee on the print, should the coffee stains be preserved too? No, it would be removed to reveal the film in its fullest original glory. If you want to preserve the sorts of damage that prints accumulate over their lifetime - burns, scratches, hairs, dust, mouse droppings, etc., there is another preservation that has that covered.

lucas did not have a PT visualized in his mind dating back to 1980 and he was not honest about this. There was no PT and everything was made up, many times on the fly.
Doesn't really matter.
He also kept hammering the talking point about story and characters when the evidence shows he couldn't care less about this.
Doesn't really matter.
combined that with the fact that he didn't put a serious effort in writing and directing
Doesn't really matter
and also his refusal to release the OOT - including library of congress.
Now THAT matters. Although, the fact that he hasn't sent ninjas to the Czech republic to take out Harmy tells me that there is still good in him.
Actual concern for film preservation and cultural heritage shouldn't be mixed with asshats singing "George Lucas Raped My Childhood."um... you're joking about that last part right? is this true? there is actually a song called this?
Sadly, there is. I'm sure you can find it on YouTube. Funny thing is, it's not a bad tune, the lyrics are mildly amusing and the musicianship is pretty good. But it has done a good deal of damage as folks such as at OT.com tend to get unfairly associated with it.

George doesn't like 3D That 'comes out at you' from the screen (!)
The skeptic in me wonders if he "doesn't like" that sort of 3D because he can't do it with the source material he has. Because that statement is inconsistent with Sy Snootles' ROTJ Special Edition lips.

the 'raped childhood' meme - the ratio of people that have actually said this in 1999 versus those that just merely quote it by now is 1:1000000.
how true!

I disagree with Lucas when he thinks it's a waste of time to restore the movies, but I wouldn't say that what he does (or in this case, doesn't do) is wrong, when we are dealing with his product.
Lucas is under no legal obligation to restore anything for us. Nor, in my opinion, is he under any moral obligation to do so either. However, since he is in sole possession of an important cultural artifact, in my opinion he has a moral obligation to either restore it and make it available, or to allow its restoration and release on some reasonable level if he chooses not to restore it himself. It's more than just a "product" because of the cultural iimpact it has had on society. So I still think that his viewpoint, and his actions (actually a combination of inaction and action, aimed at blocking the preservation/restoration of a cultural artifact), are morally wrong even if legal. His behavior towards the National Film Archive and the LOC with respect to OT prints is just one example of this.
That's my opinion, also open to moral scrutiny.

And now the question is, what about "Return of the Puggo"? :)
Did you miss the recent thread?
I believe that GL considers the movies his "sandbox" in which he plays. And, I also believe that he instills this mindset on the people who work for him. Whenever they make a new release, they have a little bit of fun seeing what they can do. So yes, with this mindset, of course they will keep making changes... not just Lucas, but the folks working with him too (like they guy who went out in the alley and made the new Krayt dragon call).
Somehow it manages to escape them all that by doing this in the absence of a preservation of the originals, that a small but important part of cinematic history is being lost. If they would just also do a proper preservation, most of us would probably enjoy the little changes and think they were fun too.
They get away with it because most people don't care about film history -- if they are entertained that's all they care about. And if you're George, having millions of people publicly opining that his detractors are stupid must be very empowering.

Oh man, when they started ranting from 1:50 onwards I just about puked. They called the restoration of the original versions a "waste of time."
Jesus.
In GL's point of view.
His point of view is wrong then.
Wrong opinions?
An opinion is open to moral scrutiny. For instance, I believe that having the point of view that all books should be confiscated and burned, is morally wrong - despite that it is viewpoint that has appeared many times around the world. Similarly, although less dramatic, the idea that preserving a piece of history is "a waste of time", is in my opinion also wrong, for similar reasons. It reveals a surprising lack of respect for the importance of history, education, and the roots of freedom, in the person who said it.
Adywan's color corrections to reels 2 and 3 are in the post on a thumb drive ... probably hovering over the Atlantic right at this moment!
