I don’t see the objection to USAT including both. Running the president’s claims is simply reporting what an important, powerful figure is doing. Given their usual conservative slant (although not crazy-ass, like Fox), I’m actually impressed that they ran such a substantive rebuttal.

After reading Trump’s claims, I’m even more amazed anyone would vote for him. It should be totally laughable to anyone with even a modicum of intelligence. But a lot of Americans love him. We’re doomed… and not just by Trump. If Americans would elect Trump for president, imagine who/what else they’ll be voting for in the years to come.

I for one am very glad to see a complete reboot.

A compete reboot? I haven’t heard that is what they were doing. I am pretty sure the rest of the continuity still counts. I for one would not want to see over 50 years of Dr. Who thrown into the trash.

Sorry for being unclear – I guess I meant partial reboot. The series was getting gooey.

Where I was, BBCA showed the credits, but they were in a tiny tiny window in the corner, with no sound, and so fast that there was no possible way one could read them.

What I assume was an otherwise cliffhanger ending was totally ruined by the sudden cutaway to some pumped-up insert, followed by a total lack of clarity that the episode was over. By the time I happened to notice that credits were running in the corner, a lot of time had passed and I assumed I had missed something.

Basically, the episode was great, while the presentation of it by BBCA was pretty awful. When you can’t even tell what you are watching at any given moment - the show, or an ad, or a get-together, and you can’t tell if the people on the screen are BBCA guests or if they are extras in the episode… it’s a mess. I hope it’s not like this every episode.

A report by the Trump administration admits that climate change is real and that it will be catastrophic by the end of this century. However, rather than using that as a basis for action, they are using it as a basis for inaction, under the assumption that to do anything would be futile:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/trump-administration-sees-a-7-degree-rise-in-global-temperatures-by-2100/2018/09/27/b9c6fada-bb45-11e8-bdc0-90f81cc58c5d_story.html?utm_term=.0833af276ce0

Specifically, they are using it as justification for rescinding emission standards! This was also reported by NPR a couple of weeks ago. Appalling.

I really liked the accents too.

Quick question… I don’t know if it was the same everywhere, but where I was there were SO many interruptions, ads, interviews, sneak previews, etc., that there were times when I wasn’t entirely sure if I was watching the show or something else. This was particularly the case at the very end, where the snippets of the show were so short and so interrupted that I wasn’t sure exactly what happened, and whether or not I missed something before the credits rolled.

So, what exactly was the final scene? Yes I know that would be spoiler - so perhaps someone can figure out how to hide it or put it in a strategically-placed spoiler alert? Thanks.

Just watched the premiere. Enjoyed it a lot – it seemed like classic Who. Whitaker’s doctor seemed closest to Tenant’s in style, it looked like she even copied some of his mannerisms. I might prefer it a bit less frenetic, and more relaxed Tom Baker-style. But these days it seems frenetic is the order of the day. But her character has nice potential, for a first episode it was encouraging.

The story and writing were excellent, and the villain was very much in the spirit of Who villains. It didn’t devolve into overly-dramatic pablum, just stuck with quirky sci-fy. That’s a big plus in my book.

Didn’t like the color palette at all. Too much overblown yellows. I don’t understand why they always tinker with the color so much until it becomes unrealistic and hard on the eyes.

And for Warbler, I didn’t notice even the slightest pandering to feminism. Not even one line. It was just a Who story.

The constant cutaways, ads, and extras were extremely annoying. I’m glad I was able to fast-forward through them.

My favorite line – “I’m good at building things… probably.”

Some day I’ll post the amazing story of my most-religious-ever best friend from high school. Sealed the deal for me, as to why I’ll never become a Christian. It’s a lengthy story so it will take at least an hour of free time to get it all down.

That bad, huh? I feel you. Most of the religious people I know are chill, but the few bad apples I’ve met really sour the mood on it.

No, it’s nothing like that. He’s always been a great guy, still is.

Isn’t the main issue that they can’t be forced to work for a private company?

I don’t have a big problem with it as long at it is only done with convicted prisoners, and done humanely and under reasonable and fair conditions and the 8th amendment is applied properly.

That would open the door to a lot of potential corruption. Certain companies getting free labor and getting an unfair advantage, for starters. Who does one bribe to you get your company on the list? What if the employee/slave doesn’t do a good job? Punishment? Now, as far as cleaning up litter or building a levee or something like that for the city or county, in exchange for some reasonable modest reward, I haven’t got a problem with that.

Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS
Time

Finally saw Solo for the first time tonight, on blu ray.

Enjoyed it quite a lot! I thought that it was very clever how they resolved the “12 parsecs” conundrum from SW. Ehrenreich was fantastic as Han - very convincing. He even borrowed some of Harrison Ford’s gestures. Woody Harrelson was also excellent.

The only hole in the story, that I could see, is how quickly Qi’ra went from being a waif to being a crime syndicate princess/soldier. That didn’t make any sense.

I agree with the complaints about the lack of color. It’s one thing to give a movie gritty realism in dirty, industrial worlds. But they went overboard with that, pretty much sapping all the color and contrast out of it. I suspect it would look better just by increasing the contrast on the monitor, although these days that’s a bit of a pain to do after spending time calibrating it.

Turning the marauders into rebels was a bit cheesy, or maybe just lazy writing.
