You’re probably right. But I customarily prefer to burn a disc and print my own label. This is retro all the way, start to finish 😃 For PG and ESB I was sending out lightscribe discs… but that seems to have gone the way of the black rhino and I don’t feel like firing up my old Windows 2000 machine with the lighscribe drive.

It’s done! I’ll be mailing a disc to Silverwook today, to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
Turns out my fears regarding space on the disc were largely unfounded. With only a slight reduction in bitrate, I was still able to fit the documentary, a second audio track, motion menu, and even still had space for a very small bonus extra.

And what is the bonus this time, you ask? Well, anyone remember the bonus on Stjärnornas Krig? It was called “The Maniac” and was an 8mm homemade horror movie made by some kids… I had found the film in a box marked “Star Wars”. I still don’t know who those kids are. Anyhow, “The Maniac” was one of three stories they filmed, the others being “The Robot” and “The Detectives”. “The Maniac” was the best of the three - in fact I consider it the main reason to get Stjärnornas Krig! 😃 Anyhow, ROTP contains “The Robot”, which features breathtaking special effects. A spaceship comes in from outer space carrying a giant robot that goes on a rampage, until the humans finally defeat it. It even includes a short documentary “the making of ‘The Robot’”!

No, I get flak for being white.

This is where you are 100% wrong. You’ve gone on and on about being “color blind”, and saying you can’t see why anyone would say that’s wrong. Well, I have said probably 50 times that being color blind is GREAT… the problem is “claiming” to be color blind. Because I am not going to believe you, nor is virtually anyone else. Perhaps I should have made clear that I don’t think virtually any blacks are color blind either. I think 99% of people (black, white, or whatever) in the world AREN’T color blind, even though most of them believe they are color blind, and even though many (like you) claim they are color blind. I would give a black person the same flak because I think anyone who claims it is almost certainly deluding themself – not to mention constructing a barrier to their own learning. THAT is why I’ve given you flak on this issue, not because you are white.

In China, women supposedly make up something like 40% of the engineering workforce. Yes, it’s a cultural issue, not a biological one. That’s the point – perhaps those cultural barriers needs to be tackled, instead of blaming the biology.

I taught a computer science college course for a week in China. A full half of the class of 75 students were women. Compare that with the U.S., where I consider myself lucky if I get two female students in a class of 40.

nudity is nudity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(Michelangelo)

you’re point? What do you think would happen if guy standing next to the statue exposed his penis?

You really don’t know how to make comparisons. If you can’t understand the difference between a woman breastfeeding and the woman next to her that takes off her shirt just to scare you, no one here can help you.

That was not the point of what I said there. I was trying show that just because we allow nude statues in an art museum, doesn’t mean we allow nude real humans.

Of all the things in this world to get bent about, … breastfeeding? Does it really have any impact whatsoever on anyone but the mother and baby? And is there anything more essential to a growing baby? Such a non-issue.

Seems like another example of contradictory “right to life” stuff. All for the baby when it’s in the womb, but once it’s born, more interested in a woman’s modesty than in the baby’s most basic health needs.

Not to mention that in a large number of other western countries, people aren’t as hung up over exposed breasts. Spend some time in Italy and France for another perspective.

Just finished the doc. It’s 4 and a half minutes long and explains many of the things that went into making the captures a watchable film.
The doc doesn’t explain the basics of capturing, since that was covered in the PG and PSB docs.
Over the weekend I’ll build a test disc, and see if there is room for a second audio track.

We know that what we did in the past was wrong. Any solution to fix the past wouldn’t affect the lives of those in the past. We shouldn’t fixate on it.

Were you opposed to reparations for Japanese Americans interred during WW2 ?

Obviously not. Why would you?

I must have misunderstood your opposition to trying fix mistakes made in the past. Japanese reparations seems a sort of canonical example of doing exactly that.

What are we going to do about it? Redistribute the wealth?

I hate that slogan/meme “redistribution of wealth”. Redistribution of wealth is exactly what any government is charged with doing. Our tax dollars go to all sorts of people - architects, doctors, police, scientists, teachers, the poor, the sick, etc. Republicans have done a staggeringly good job of coming up with slogans to villify every idea thought up by democrats. “Death panels” was another such meme.

At just the very highest levels (people with more than 5 million dollars in wealth), there is currently an inheritance tax that was set up for the purpose of lessening the grip of “power” families that essentially become a perpetual un-elected ruling class. Of course, Trump wants to get rid of this because it affects his family. And, when he chants “we’re going to get rid of the death tax!”, that’s exactly what he is talking about – ensuring his ancestors continue to have power over yours.

An awful lot of great, historical stuff was built by slaves. Rome, the pyramids, etc. And what about the working conditions of people who built the Golden Gate bridge? Of course we should remember all of that, but I’m not sure that such examples continue to taint us somehow. Perhaps as symbolism, I’d buy that. But I don’t think I’m Euro-privileged when I walk on the pyramids… my privileges as a white male in America are much more concrete than that and have vanishingly little to do with the fact that slaves built the pyramids.

I think I’ve said this before but I think it bears repeating: the word racism means different things to different people. When discussing this topic, it’s pretty normal for some white people to recoil the second the word starts to touch them personally. Because racism, to them, is overt acts, conscious choices, hateful feelings, much more personal. But to others, racism is woven into the fabric of America, much more institutional. If you were born and raised here, you’ve already got some on you. The only question is: what are you going to do about it?

When Michelle Obama said she raised her daughters in a house built by slaves, that was a much more poignant way of saying she got some on her. The more important question is what is she doing about it?

This is something I don’t understand. How does Michelle Obama have “some on her”.

I’m a big fan of Michelle Obama, but I also thought this was a bit weak. I can understand racist influence from people and culture, especially while growing up. But from a house that one moved in just recently? It kinda reminded me of Sarah Palin’s remark about Alaska’s proximity to Russia… reaching. Perhaps someone can explain it to me.
