Printing out DVD Labels
Time
Just want to set the record clean and summarize what's true and what's not:

Stick on labels: Avoid like the plague on DVD. Read what "ntrprs" said. But the major issue is that, due to heat in dvdplayers, labels tends to lose their stickiness and can lift. I don't need to tell you that particular event can cause damage to your dvd player. Mind you, this is not the case with cd-r since it revolves at much lower speed.

Printable Inkjet DVD's:
First, There is no such thing as ink melting. Ink is a pigment and has no liquid properties per se. They are however very vunerable to water or humidity, it makes the pigment unstable again and causes smearing (even from the humidity of your fingertip).

They are also vulnerable to sunlight. It cause the ink pigment to fade

That is why spraying the DVDs you want to keep for a long time an interesting solution. It will keep the dvds safe from humidity and Sunlight (UV rays)

Inkjet printable DVD comes in various forms : Silver coated, for that shiny looking finish and plain white, great for photos or full disk graphics. There are also two kind of disks you can buy: Hub printable and Non- Hub printable. A hub printable disk will let you print all the way to the inner rim of the disks (most dvds have label printed to the Hub)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/PapaVader/Hub.jpg
A non-hub printable leave a sizable chunk of the inner rim unprintable (most audio cds)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/PapaVader/Non_hub.jpg

Printable Thermal DVD's:
These type of printable disks need a thermal printer wich uses heat to put color dots on it. This is probably the source of the "melting ink" myth. It is doubtfull that the heat of a dvd player would be enough to affect the ink of a thermal printed disk, let alone the fact that thermal printing is one of the more robust form of printing these days...

Well, it think thats it folks, hope this clears up some misunderstanding I have read in this thread!

@COOV:.................................................................................................OMFG!...................................................................
Those are (and this is my honest opinion) BY FAR, THE best cover series i have seen!
Here why : #5 Your spectacular Leather look
#4 No text on the front!
#3 Clean and sober look
#2 The fonts are Spot on
#1 Original cover art! That's what i'm talking about! This is MUCHO IMPRESSIVE! Glad to see that more and more people are taking that route!

I am presently looking for a way to do covering for cd case or box set in a vinyl leather-like embossed surface, with gold lettering, ans i tell you my friend, if i can pull it out, when i get my grubby littles hands On those sweet cover, I'm gonna send you a set! Those WILL replace the covers of my originals DVDs, I can tell you that!

Hi every one!

It's been a while (lived trough my wedding and a house move in the same month) So i haven't had much time to work on my cover series.
I have almost finished the prototype for the ESB cover, but beeing the sick maniac perfectionnist that i am, it takes me a while to whip up a cover...

well, as usual, step on me and whoop my a$$, I want your commentaries!

@Coov: Your last set is tremendrous! I like the "A long long time ago" look and they really stand out! I value originality a lot and they fit right in my alley! Now to find a set to use these...

@Rikter: Thanks for the vote of confidence! Comming from you, it flattering! Yours are always great and a great source of inspiration!

@Gillean: Those typos are gone my friend! I think I will use your choice of words as it do seem less clumsy! I use Paint shop pro 9 for my covers, cause i find photoshop a little too hard for my taste! I did not find the spacing option but i'll look!

The grammar is a little awkward in a few spots too, maybe a slight rewrite would help, other than that, good work!

@Gillean: English being only my second language (I am French speaking), that kind of things creeps up more than I would like... A few pointer on how to correct the awkwardness you mentioned is welcomed and needed!

@SquashMaster: I am trying to do something different (the art, the kind of text...), so using the title scroll is not a thing I would consider for this set...(yes there are more to come!) Anyhow, tell me what you find is cheesy and i'll work on it!

Thanks to Coov's suggestion and Gillean's proof reading, here is V2

Squach Master: Agreed! But cheese is good And i feel it is in the style of Lucas Heck, most of it is lifted from the movies!
So if you have any sugestions, go right ahead, I am all ears and open to comments!

Coov: Thanks a lot i will try some (if not all) of your suggestions later tonite! The emperor is indeed not necessary, but I like the idea of him Lurking in the Shadows. I'll just diminish the transparency factor on my Vader, it will bring more contrast to him...

Coov, Wow! Those are simply gorgeous A real work of art! I bow in shame at what i am about to show...

To the the rest of you crazy bunch, tell me what you think: Shoud i continue doing this series or stop right there and stop degrading the greatness that is SW? (does it shows that I lack a little confidence in my self?)

Here it goes:

Yes, Kinda. He does mostly works on covers for Dark Horse comics and a hell of a great many deal of the new starwars book, from what i could gather.
There would have been a better pic i would've use for my cover, but the hardest thing is finding high enough res scans...

This was my first choice, as i am doing an Empire theme for my first set...
This was my first choice

here are some other cool pics from www.davedorman.com

Hello again!

Mebe, you seem to have me confused with Coov, who is the creator of the Leather set...

As for owen face, well it was there from the beginning:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/PapaVader/dorm105.jpg

As you can see Dave(?) Dorman did the original painting not me!
I could try and photoshop it thought!

As for the other charaters, I think they would clutter the picture a bit much...
I am tring to do something unique

But doing the covers with original posters is not out of the question, If i have any request...

Bye for now!
