And this is exactly why I’m after the NBC captures for the first two seasons

Seeing all of those unattainable entries on TuneFind is so painful 😦 Wish we could see who input those & message them about their source, but it’s all like 15+ years ago.

I saw Liza Richardson (who I mentioned before) is active on Instagram. I doubt she will reply to me and/or be able to do anything / provide info, etc… but I DM’d her mentioning my excitement about S3-5 being restored. I guess if she replies, I could say something like, “So how did that happen? Could it happen to S1-2?”

Season 1 & 2 physical are a mixed bag. Some songs retained, many replaced. I never saw the original broadcasts so can’t personally compare, but looking at TuneFind etc, you don’t hear most of the songs listed there.

EDIT: for clarity, s1&2 physical exactly match what’s on streaming. Same mix of original/replaced songs.

ICYMI - Liza Richardson, the music supervisor for FNL talked in a couple of interviews about how they offered artists a 2-year term contract to license their songs for less money, meaning they were original only on the first broadcast:

http://www.fuelfriendsblog.com/2010/08/30/the-musical-mind-behind-friday-night-lights/

So, not wanting to lose a chance at having those original music cues for S3,4,5 (in case they revert back to the replacements) I ripped the Paramount Plus streams. The video quality is for shit though.

Perhaps I can rip my blu-rays at a higher video quality & mux in the audio tracks from the P+ streams. I’ve never tried that before.

P+ is using the uncut version of the finale I can instantly tell you that. But I bet it’s the slightly re-edited version that re-arranged some of the scenes compared to the original 101 broadcast. No footage was cut but certain scenes were moved to different spots I guess to get around the contractual obligation of 101 having exclusive access to the extended episodes.

Do you happen to know, does the blu-ray/dvd version of the finale match the original 101 broadast? I know it’s the extended length, but is it re-arranged as you mentioned the streaming version is?

For whoever might be interested - it seems like the latest streaming versions of seasons 3, 4, & 5 have had their original music restored!! It’s the stream that is on Paramount Plus (bizarrely) that has the updates. And I think it’s the original, non-extended episode lengths.

Pretty awesome! Unfortunately it seems like season 1 didn’t get the same treatment. Obviously lots of the original tracks were retained, but many are replacements.

For MY purposes, a version that kept your picture edits & removed score would be perfect, since I only want to make 2 changes to your edit (remove Cassian’s prison line & his lovey-dovey longing look in the elevator). So there’s one vote for that 😃

But, I see what you’re saying… it wouldn’t be what some might’ve expected.

So excited to see how this turns out! Thanks for taking the time to finish it, NFBisms! To adapt the words of Saw Gererra… “SAVE ROGUE ONE! SAVE THE DREAM!”

Quick question - not sure if there will be a V2 of Stardust, but the audio for all of the V1 versions doesn’t work on my TV. The V2 ones so far have been perfect. I watch the MKVs on a thumbdrive in the back of my 4K player. Will there at least be an updated audio track for Stardust to match the others? Or am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: very last thought… I’m fine with every choice you’ve made, NFBisms… I just wish the shot of Cassian and Jyn making lovey eyes in the elevator was cut (lol). I can ignore the other hints of romance, but that one’s too overt. I do think they’ve grown close, and knowing they’re about to die justifies them reaching out and embracing each other in their final moments. BUT THOSE ELEVATOR EYES ARE BEDROOM EYES! And happening so near the end, my sudden, confusing feelings of “Betrayl!” thinking about poor Bix & baby is quite distracting!

Have there been any updates on this project? Thanks NFBisms!

Thank you, appreciate this.

Yeah I knew that the Black Speech scene will be divisive when I decide to keep it, but for some reason I like it. Since this is my personal cut I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

The Very Old Friends scene is when Gandalf and Bilbo talk and are interrupted by a knock on the door. In TC Bilbo says he needs to get away from these people / relatives. In EE he adds that Sackville-Baggins are after his house and that they haven’t forgiven him for living this long. Makes Bilbo’s reaction more rational rather then being old grump who doesn’t like people in general.

I didn’t keep the “Don’t worry, Sam” as that is part of the Green Dragon EE scene BUT let me revisit this and see if inclusion of that bit will work. In theory it shouldn’t affect the pacing as much as including the whole scene from inside of Green Dragon.

Ah! Of course, the first mention of the Sackville-Baggins! The later (lovely) Frodo/Bilbo convo doesn’t work without it, so great inclusion.

At first I thought you meant the Bilbo having a minor “where’s the ring” freakout during Gandalf’s ride into the Shire. Always disliked that scene, especially through the lens of a first-time viewer, because it sets up a dark/mysterious/maleveolent feeling around Bilbo far too early. Tips its hand too much.

And, as you’ve said, it’s your cut, do with it what you will! Can’t wait to check this out later.

Oh yeah - did you keep the “Don’t worry, Sam. Rosie knows an idiot when she sees one.” “Does she?” bit?

Love this! I’m one of the increasingly few fans that prefers the theatrical cuts. The pacing is just so much better. I always loved how FOTR’s 3 hours FLY by. Such a feat!

The EE scenes, while nice on their own, make 3 hours & 48 minutes FEEL like 3 hours and 48 minutes (ie looong). I think you made some great choices about what to keep/drop. I agree, Concerning Hobbits is a treasure, but that much info dumped that early, makes the movie feel like an expositional chore, especially for folks who’ve never seen this trilogy before.

The only addition you’ve kept that I dislike is the Black Speech scene. Rivendell is another one of those feats of editing in which a giant exposition dump is actually rather dynamic/propulsive in the theatrical cut.

Can you clarify the Very Old Friends addition you kept? I can’t remember an extended scene here.

Great stuff as always!

Did you want to consider using Broom Kid’s edit of the Jedha jail cell scene? Fixes the newly created continuity error in the “We’ve been in worse cages than this one” … “This is a first for me” exchange?

Such a tiny but impactful fix.

I love this. Great work, once again! A few stray (positive) observations:

-Recap seems perfect. Keeps a nice quick pace, while clearly highlighting what’s relevant (love the music you used).

-Totally dig the quiet, more ambient feeling of the music during the opening Iceland scene. Makes it feel more like an episode of Andor. Slow, methodical build vs. John Williams-esque frenzy.

-As detailed in the recap, now we already know the name Galen Erso, Saw Guererra, the exact nature of Krennic’s project. All this changes how we view the opening scene. It’s now less of an upfront “let the mystery wash over me…guess I’ll catch up later” feeling. Instead it’s more of an “okay, I’ve heard of these people/things, now I get to SEE them.” Very satisfying.

-I think when you combine the “I already know who these people are” with the emphasis on quiet/ambient music, it all feels much better paced (i.e. slower, more like Andor).

-The “Say you understand”, “I understand”, hugs, “I love you Stardust" moment just SLAYS me. Brittel’s themes there elevate the material SO DAMN MUCH.

This rocks.

EDIT: One note, I miss the Star Wars helmets logo between the Lucasfilm logo and the Andor title. I know lots of folks hate that logo, but I’d prefer to see it, if only because that’s how the 4Ks/blu-rays are presented. More consistent.

I’ll DM you the wav of the mix so you can mix it into the episode proper, but yeah, you don’t need to ask permission or anything like that, just go ahead and use it! If I put anything out there, it’s automatically fair game for anyone else to transform however they see fit!

Funny story - I tried posting just that scene, as I had it on YouTube, to reddit on Mother’s Day (I hadn’t posted it to r/fanedits yet and thought that morning “hey, this would be kinda funny”) and it got deleted for “not being a fanedit” so just a heads up - trying to post it to reddit might NOT go so well. I never got an explanation on HOW it’s not a restoration according to their rules, either, but I didn’t think it was worth pressing the issue - it almost never is - especially over a single syllable, LOL.

So I’ve received the file you sent me and I’ve managed to use it and importing it into the episode! It feels flawless! Now I’m gonna upload it in Google Drive then make a post on reddit and here maybe if there is enough interest on both sites! You can ask for a link to the episode.

I have an HD version of the episode with Broom Kid’s audio laid in. By any chance were you able to upload/export in 4K, or just HD? If 4K, I’ll DM you about a link 😃

@EddieDean - Agree with your idea to re-release Sacrifice with the “F*** the Empire” line intact. My feelings on why f*** works so well are in that thread I started, but at this point, it mostly just boils down to it being what Gilroy scripted & what was shot. Keep censorship away from this jewel of show!

And since there’s no community-wide consensus on the line, giving folks both options is probably best.

Rewatched your V1 edits today. Just so grateful to you this exists. Rogue One is so problematic, Andor is so wonderful. This really lines them up so much better.

The music choices at the very closing of episodes 15 & 16 are SO good. Brittel’s themes are so evocative, heart-string-pulling & you laid them in perfectly.

I also want to back you on the post-credits thing. Vader’s hallway scene, while amazing, is now problematic. As the end of Andor’s story, I need to sit with his sacrifice for longer. Transitioning to bad-ass Vader directly after that moment is thematically jarring. Part of what makes Andor so special is that it’s in the world of Star Wars, but it’s a world AWAY from the Force, from the Skywalkers, etc… obviously we all still love those OT elements though… by splitting them apart with the credits, it really sells the transition from gritty-Andor-spy-story back to operatic-Skywalker-Force-monomyth. It’s just brilliant how you achieved that.

In terms of changes others have mentioned, these are the ones I’m most supportive of (I agree with you – too much editing would be beyond your original scope):

1. Integrate the Star Wars logo (droid/helmet thing) into the previously-on’s.

2. The Bor Gullet scene is silly AF, but watching your edit with a couple of Andor-newbies, they were both confused why Bodhi is suddenly out-of-it. Someone here mentioned the idea of keeping Saw’s iconic intro scene & when Saw says “Bor Gullet”, add subtitles that say “Torture him” (or “make him talk” etc) & only cut the actual Bor Gullet scene. I think it’s a pretty elegant fix.

3. More action/tension music throughout final Scarif battle.

4. Don’t touch that R2/3PO moment! Helps sell that this story is crashing (beautifully) into classic SW.

5. Agree with the shortened Krennic/Jyn confrontation.

6. Rebellion Suite cue (2:23) for Star Destroyer crash.

Interesting to see how split folks are about this (well the limited sample we have in this thread anyway). I’m so happy to now have scripted/filmed line. Thanks Broom Kid! I’ll be watching it this way for-f***ing-ever!

Remsouille, are you still sharing links for these? I have a few older ones from December that are expired.

A thought for your next round of edits on this… rewatching the official 4K release… I see the opening of each episode is as follows:

-Recap
-Lucasfilm logo
-New Star Wars logo (the helmet/droid thing)
-Andor title card
-Episode begins

Your Rogue One edits skip the New Star Wars Logo. Perhaps you’ll want to reintegrate them for uniformity? I’ve come to really like those logos… gets me all amped up lol.

BTW, your recaps are great. Good info, good clips, well-edited to match the style of the Andor recaps!

Okay, how about this

OMG! this is PERFECT!! Very well done, my friend!

(And so happy to see someone agrees with me about how it’s all building to that moment… great point about Gilroy knowing exactly what he was doing there)

Originally, I also wanted this to be the case after I heard it was supposedly the original plan.

But “FIGHT the Empire!” is so much more a call to action than “F*** the Empire!” and I wouldn’t want it any other way now.

Fair! I think the other reason I like the f*** line, besides what I added above, is that Andor (the show, not the individual) has been saying “fight the empire” from episode 1. Through the voices of the characters (including Maarva), the plots, the themes.

I think to really take it to the next level in the finale, to reward our time watching the season, to justify a full-blown revolt & IED explosion, we need to hear something BIG/NEW/CONTROVERSIAL. On a meta-level that is. Just my thoughts.

NFBisms said:

I actually already used the deepfaked versions! I forgot to mention it in this thread, but it should be in the IFDB listing

Oh hell yeah! You’re the best!

This is my first time creating a topic rather than just replying to one, so please forgive me if this isn’t the right way to inquire about this. I read all the rules/guidelines/FAQs and I think this is kosher.

Anyway, what the topic title says… I’m fascinated by the idea of an Andor edit that revises Maarva’s closing self-eulogy line from “FIGHT the Empire” to “FUCK the Empire”, which is what was supposedly scripted & filmed.

Seems that AI speech software is becoming more commonly used for edits around here, so figured it might be doable for some enterprising soul? I’m sure Fiona Shaw (Maarva actress) has dropped an F-bomb or two in her other projects (Killing Eve, Fleabag, True Blood, etc). If that’s even how the software works?

QUICK EDIT:
Just adding that I totally respect folks who think an F-bomb is NOT in the spirit of Star Wars. However, I love the idea of it in this case because 1) Andor already feels to me like the edgiest/real-est/nastiest version of Star Wars we’ve gotten, so it fits, and 2) the speech is building > building > BUILDING to something huge. An F-bomb in that moment would’ve been TRULY shocking. On both a STORY-level and a META-level.

So, turns out Nicholas Britell isn’t returning for season 2 (mentioned here) outside of a few tracks; Brandon Roberts is picking up composing duties.

I’m sure the general sound will stay audially & thematically consistent to what Britell established, but it has inspired me to re-open the project files and mess around using some of Roberts’ previous work. Obviously his actual score for Andor season 2 will take precedence for use in the final project, but I am already inspired to use some of his other stuff. The places he is different from Britell open up what exactly “Andor sounds like” and that has exciting possibilities for this.

Came here to see your thoughts on the Britell > Roberts shift. This could be interesting!

Happy to see you’re getting excited to start work on this project again! Fingers crossed Season 2 ROCKS & it doesn’t throw any huge wrenches into your future re-edit.

And while I was here, have you given any thought to using the Deepfaked versions of the Tarkin & Leia scenes? I know they originated on YouTube & I think Hal9000 incorporated them into his Rogue One re-edit. They really do look a lot nice than what we got in 2017.

Hey TGWNN - have you gotten around to the larger encode? Thanks!
