Great to hear that this project has progressed. Particularly since it now looks almost certain that an extensive deleted scenes section for STM will not be included as part of the 14 disc collection.

This is a real shame. Fair enough that Warner weren’t interested in restoring the complete Extended Cut, but at the very least they could have restored some of the better scenes, (eg the extra footage of Clark's journey to the fortress and the shot of Supes waiting for the missile). This footage should be archived, rather than being left to rot.

Anyways Mitch how did STM turn out?

Personally I think you are doing a fantastic job and the extent of work that you are undertaking clearly shows. That said there's always room for improvement and I agree which the remarks made by Sober about lengthening the release of the rocket. We see Supes throw it into space only for it to explode immediately. The idea of using footage from Supes IV could prove valuable.

I love the way the film opens with Supes in pursuit of the rocket and the transition from the daily planet globe to the red Krypton sun is also a nice touch. The re-cap for the trial of the villains sequence is superb I think you've edited it to just the right length.

With regards to the credits I can understand that you want them to differentiate from official versions since this is your own cut. Taolar suggested adding some noise to the text, which might help them defuse into the background. Ultimately I feel toning down the animation might help. The credits look best when they are simply whooshing across the screen rather than doing all kinds of crazing things.

Keep up the fantastic work I know the finished product will be something to be proud of.

There are a few things that I felt didn't play right with the cuts like when Lenny gets Lex and after the Sups/Clark double date (maybe nix this whole seen?) BUT I do like were it's going and look forward to the final version!

THANKS so much for the screener and I'm down to watch them when you send them (and I'll flag your email addy so I don't delete it!)

RiK

Hey Rik, I'm very interested to see Mitch’s Sups 4 work, particularly his alterations to the start (with new titles and Smallville edits) and the end (in which he has closed with the opening scene).

I haven't been able to get in touch with him so would there be any chance you could upload some clips of his cut. They need not be high quality.

as I know where I went wrong with it

I've watched this thing though several times now (including on my laptop, which is much faster than my PC), and I must say I'm really starting to appreciate it more than I've said.

I find the opening to be very enjoyable, and to have Brando narrating, amongst other dialog and sound effects is a real treat. Just a thought, perhaps the credits could be toned down a little (in terms of movement). At times they are a little over-animated. For example the Newman’s credit which appears letter after letter, as opposed to whooshing across the screen. Sometimes simplicity is the way to go.

Perfectly understandable Sky. You want to make this a personal cut, so not to be confused with any other fan, or official editions of Supes 2.

Keep up the good work dude, I can’t wait to see more of the changes you have made.

Sky, did you have a look at that "Green Cut" - test opening?

It really would be fantastic if credits similar to those used in STM could be re-created. I think it's the main thing holding your "Crystal Edition" intro back. Your credits just stand out a bit too much. Perhaps the font could just be outlined rather than coloured in.

Couple of other things:-
- Marc McClure's credit has been misspelled.
- The use of "Close Encounters" footage is a bit wrong in my opinion. It's worked well in a few "Superman Returns" trailers, but it doesn't blend in with the STM footage in this case.

Well Sky I've watched your opening for the Crystal Edition of SII and overall I'm quite impressed.

POSITIVE
- I love the use of Brando narration throughout the opening especially during the unveiling of Krypton. It produces even more of a re-cap to the previous film and just makes it more than simply re-using footage.

- The trial of the villains is much more dramatic with Brando's inclusion, and is generally nicely edited.

- The STM clips you have chosen during the credits work very well in creating a wonderful build-up and summary of the first film.

NEGATIVE
- I think you've edited the trial of the villains sequence nicely, except for Zod's dialog. For him to just say "Join Us", is very undramatic. I'd love to hear more of his screaming rage.

- The credits are very nicely done, however I'm not too sure there style is suited for such a film. Obviously the idea behind the credits is to give Donner and Brando there entitled credit, so you've succeeded in that respect. The credits for STM were incredibly dramatic, and whilst many fans have tried to recreate them, most results have paled in comparison. Have a look at this link Green Cut Test Opening and scroll down to the clip titled "greencut_25901.mov". In this case the creator simply borrowed the titles from STM, but coloured them green. The effect is nice, though clearly borrowed. I should also point out you misspelled Jackie Cooper's credit.

Sky, I can't wait to see more of your great work with this project and salute you for your passion of the Reeve Superman Films.

Sky, what type of file is your Superman II intro clip? Perhaps you could try saving it as a WMV or AVI file. The quality won't be as good but at least it will be a smaller file, thus you will be able to upload it using yousendit more quickly.

Superman Fan DVD Cover Art
Time
Hey Everyone,

As a new user I should probably introduce myself. I'm Ollie from Australia and I have a great passion for films of the 70-80's, with the Chris Reeve Superman films being the highest on my list. Other favourites include Indiana Jones, Jaws, Terminator and Somewhere in Time.

I've seen some brilliant fan cover art for the Supes films and was just wondering if anyone's put together a DVD cover specifically for STM/SII. I've seen a couple which refer to it as "the 2 Part Epic", or "the Donner Series".

Anyways, it looks like there are some passionate Superman Movie fans on this forum so I’m looking forward to spending some time here.
