STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Ady, so sorry to hear about the sad news. I never know what to say at times like this. I know how difficult it is to have to go through a loved one's belongings after their death. Easier said than done but try to stay strong for your family.

Ziz is right, don't rush going through his things right away if it can be avoided unless you think it will help you.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

There are 3D>2D glasses available on Amazon cheap, and they are not an April Fools joke. They are custom made with 2 left lenses which cancel out the 3D effect. Look up "2D glasses" on Amazon and you will find them. I imagine they are great for when somebody goes with friends to see a 3D film, since they can see 2D without having to see the 2D version all by themselves while their friends see it in 3D.

Myself, I've always loved 3D. It doesn't bother my eyes in the slightest, even with red/blue anaglyph glasses, as long as the 3D is done competently. That is the key. And I wear regular glasses too. The polarized 3D in the Imax and RealD theatres nowadays can be amazing if the director knows what he is doing with the 3D. I've seen several newer 3D films - Avatar, My Bloody Valentine, Up, Saw - most of them were awesome but Saw was terrible because it was too dark all through the film and not filmed at all well with 3D in mind. You don't need to constantly throw things out of the screen at the audience to have good 3D - while that can be fun for certain films like My Bloody Valentine, good 3D can just mean using sets and cameras to make the most of the 3D technology. Film with 3D in mind. Even in the 50's there were great polarized 3D films made, like House of Wax just for an example.

On the other hand, I feel some 3D films today are a bit too restrained. House of wax had fantastic depth that really pulled you into the film, as though you were really there, without constantly tossing things out at you. Some 3D films today have such a restrained use of 3D that it doesn't even feel 3D, which just disappoints the audience. The trick is finding a balance of 3D techniques that work together to immerse you in the film. Just because you have a 3D camera doesn't mean you can film good in 3D. I used to take stereoscopic pictures for a hobby, and just because you point a 3D camera out the window doesn't mean you're going to get a great 3D picture. You need to compose your shot. Same thing with movies.

I'm usually dead against 2d>3D conversions because they are usually crap. I will admit that I've seen Piranha 3D and it looked really fantastic in 3D, and that was a conversion. I honestly don't think I would have known that it was a conversion just by watching it. The filmmakers said they took their time with the conversion and wanted to get it right, and I think it shows. They filmed it knowing ahead of time that they would convert it to 3D in post, so they filmed as though they were actually filming in 3D. I still think filming in true 3D is the way to go, but I'll be curious to see what James Cameron does with Titanic next year. He knows what he's doing.

As far as Star Wars, that's another thing altogether. Even if the 3D looks great (I have my doubts because the company he chose, out of several different 3D companies, is the one who did the conversion for Clash of the Titans which was atrocious), it will most likely still be blue and will most definitely still be the special editions. Plus I hated the prequels so I have zero interest in seeing them again, 3D or not. The only ones I might be interested in slightly is the OT, but it will be years before those are out.

One thing I'm getting really sick of is all the animated G-rated kid's flicks. Who can possibly afford to see them all even if they wanted too? Over-saturation. These things are a dime-a-dozen now and they're getting old quick. They all look the same and studies show that kids have a hard time sitting still with the 3D glasses on anyways, and tend to keep taking them off.

TRON: LIBERTY *** QUICK UPDATE *** (* unfinished project *)
Time

Just a suggestion but on the 20th anniversary DVD and the new blu-ray release there is a deleted "love" scene with Tron and Yori where they go back to Yori's place for a bit. It's a stunning scene, full of color, and it's a shame it was cut. I think it would make a great addition to your edit. I'm not sure if the clip is in HD or not though on the blu-ray so that might affect your decision to include it. When you get the blu-ray, check it out and see if it was remastered in HD.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

As others have already stated, please take all the time you need to care for your family. Don't worry about deadlines - a goal is a good thing, but there's no need to put that kind of pressure on yourself. A break will do you some good. Very sorry to hear things are weighing down on you and I hope things work out for you.

And to whomever it was that made such a cruel and heartless suggestion to Ady about his dad, I just have one question - how do you sleep at night?

Thankfully I think the vast majority of us all want what's best for Ady and his family. Great work on the latest clip too. I know there's probably a lot I've missed but from what I can tell there are some really nice improvements - the asteroid field looks stunning, even on the lousy Youtube quality clip.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Just heard you're planning on releasing ANH:revisited HD after Jedi, and just read your list of planned changes. Fantastic news, and I love the list of changes. There were only a very few things I wasn't completely fond of in ANH:R, and your HD version seems to address those (electric needle, final shot of Tarkin, Threepio's reaction) and I love the idea of the choice of music or no music during the lightsaber duel. I know it's several years away, but I'm glad to hear you've decided to revisit it again in HD.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I've never understood why Amazon combines reviews. It is totally asinine. I can't count how many times I've gone to Amazon to read some reviews on a particular "special edition" dvd just to see them all mixed in with the old dvd version so you can't possibly read about the actual item you're going to buy. Absolutely ridiculous.

Baronlando is right - if everybody always takes the attitude of "oh well, there's nothing we can do about it", then nothing will ever be improved upon. If nobody ever speaks out and complains when they are unhappy, companies will take advantage and try to get away with more and more (or less and less).

Katie Lucas (daughter) tweeted today:

"I helped pick out the box art for the BluRay set!"

"The haters will always hate, and in the end, they will buy the BluRay."

It's attitudes like this that are the problem. "Well, it doesn't matter how crappy our set will be because the haters will hate but then they'll buy it anyways".

Well, I am not a hater, but I can say I'm pretty confident that I will not be buying this set anyways, not until it's in the Wal-mart $5.00 bin.

And their big video reveal was laughably bad. Adywan's latest trailer for E:Revisited blows it away. Hell, I've seen many home-made fan trailers on youtube that blows this away.

Just saw the new clip. Thanks for the comparison clip too. Man, this is gonna be good. As always, fantastic color. I'm looking forward to this a lot more than the Blu-Ray set. Every time I see a comparison clip I think I'll never want to watch the special editions again.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

SilverWook, thanks for the comment on Space:1999. I'm a huge fan myself, and I know the show has been very fortunate to have such a devoted fan base. I was certainly very amazed at the quality of the restoration work that was done on the Blu-Rays, and that restoration was done several years ago by the BBC.

There's just no excuse for these Star Wars films to look anything less than spectacular on Blu-ray. But between the fact that it's special editions only, and on top of that the awful color that we will most likely be getting, I just can't get excited about this.

Blade Runner got 4 versions for crying out loud! Including an amazing workprint version. Even E.T. got both versions released on DVD. Why are Star Wars fans consistently left behind? I consider my collection of fan-made Star Wars discs vastly superior to anything listed in the extras. The Editdroid set, Movealong's incredible vinyl "Story of Star Wars" discs, Building Empire, etc. - these are the kind of things that Star Wars fans desire. Not a 90-minute documentary on "cosplay".

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Well I gotta say that I'm very unimpressed with this release from what I know of it so far. I can't see myself spending the cash to get this. First off, I would need to hear a lot of positive feedback on here about the image quality of the OT before I would want to spend the money. And honestly, I am very doubtful that they will have done anything to improve the color balancing, and it's still the special edition, which I pretty much hate anyways. I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the prequels.

The only discs I am interested in of course is discs 8 and 9. And Lucas knows it, too. The fact that he's not releasing these discs with the OT set really shows you what he thinks of the Star Wars fans today. The only way to get the bonus discs is to buy all 6 films, and that's not gonna happen. So no extras if you just buy the OT box? No deal.

Also, the box art is pretty awful. The only half-way descent one is the OT box, and that's only because it reminds me of that John Berkey art that was posted here several pages ago. Why couldn't he just have used that? That's an awesome piece of art that I'm sure many of us here would have appreciated. Whatever happened to the great poster art?

I am glad to hear about the original Making of Star Wars/SPFX, etc. but very sad to hear no From Star Wars to Jedi. Another kick in the head. And of course we have no idea how these old docs will look until we see them ourselves - they might not look any better than what's already on the fan discs that many of us have had for years. The rest of the documentaries are ridiculous and a complete waste of space.

Am I surprised? No. But I am disappointed. I was hoping for once they might actually meet us half way and deliver some great extras with the OT. Instead, we get NO extras with the OT - we have to buy all 6 films! I already knew that we wouldn't get the original releases. There might be some neat deleted scenes perhaps, but 2 bonus discs are not worth $100.

Take a look at the Blu-Ray box set of Aliens that came out last year. Wow, what a set! I'm not even a fan of the last 2 films but it was such an incredible set with so many amazing extras that I ended up with the full collector's edition egg! And I don't even like 2 of the 4 films! But 2 versions of each film and endless hours of extras made this a must-buy set. Another example - the Blu-Ray set of Space:1999. An old half-forgotten sci-fi tv show from the 70's, yet restored to an amazing level of quality, with some very impressive extras. Yet Star Wars makes it's debut on Blu-Ray and most of the extras already sound utterly forgettable.

I'm more excited to see Empire:Revisited.

Disney's Sleepy Hollow re-edit (* unfinished project *)
Time

Will anybody actually transfer this? It's still copyrighted so I'd be very surprised if this was professionally transferred by anybody. Being Disney I would think nobody would want to touch this - it's not exactly home movies. It sounds like an interesting project though. Every Halloween I wish there was a standalone version of this story instead of having to break out the DVD and skip to this story. I'd definitely like to see this when it is complete.

Ady, I've been very busy and haven't checked in here in a while. Just read the news about your dad, and I'm very glad to hear the great news about the operation.

Also, congratulations on your winnings! I'm sure you'll have some fun with your new tech stuff, and we'll have some fun too.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Adywan, just saw the new clip. Thanks for posting it. Yoda's facial expressions really do make a difference. The color is exactly how it should look. Great work all around.

As a side-note, my girlfriend works with somebody at her office who has a son that is 13 and a huge fan of Star Wars (old and new). Knowing this I sent a DVD-9 of SW:Revisited to him (complete with your painted cover), and my girlfriend told me several days later that he gave a huge thanks and said he has already watched it 3 times!

I think it says a lot that Revisited appeals not only to the older crowd that originally saw the trilogy in theatres in the 70's but also to a whole new generation that may have only experienced the "special editions".

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time

Any chance these might show up on alt.binaries.StarWars or Megaupload or Netfolder? I used to pay for Rapidshare but no longer since everything there has changed for the worst. It would take a month to grab these as a free user from Rapidshare - half the time they won't even allow a download slot for free users. Right now I'm trying to get a file and it says:

"The server returned with error Please stop flooding our download servers..
This is usually a temporary problem and can be solved by retrying the same URL at a later time or by becoming a RapidPro-user.
Do you want to upgrade to RapidPro?"

They are impossible to download from as a free user. With megaupload I could grab this in a few hours maximum, even as a free user.

The Empire Strikes Back IMPERIAL "AUDIOPHILE" EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score - J. Williams & LSO (Released)
Time

I would be very interested to hear this version. Sounds like it is indeed the definitive version to have. I absolutely love the cover art also - very classy. I agree that this is one of the all-time great film scores. I've loved it since I was 10 years old when I owned the original 2-record set. Can you send a pm my way?
