Um, isn't the 81 version just the 77 version with the Episode IV crawl and a slightly different sound mix?

Think about it. They'd have to redo all the effects done for the 2004 edition like the updated jabba. (well they could do it crappily I suppose...wouldn't be the first time) But also they'll piss off:
This is not true. The O-negs of the films are still conformed to the 97 theatrical versions. All post 97 changes were done to the 2k digital master. If they did a new scan of the O-Neg it would be the 97 version. From there, if they wanted to restore the OOT theyd have to scan IP prints or the cut pieces of the O-Neg and reedit them back into the film. If they wanted to recreate the 2004 or 2011 version in 4K, they'd have to rerender all the post 97 effects at a higher resolution and reinsert them into the film.
A new cut of the Ani/Obi Mustafar exchange. I tried to cut as much awkward dialogue as. I could but it might feel a bit disjointed now.
I managed to shave another 20 min off this edit by checking out some other fanedits and Implementing some of their ideas. I also have updated the ani/obi confrontation on Mustafar and I think my current version has less of the dialogue intact than any other fanedit. Will upload a clip soon.

@michaeldc: I got a bit sidetracked with the BD release - I'm now thinking about waiting until all three v2.5s are done and then do the whole trilogy and make the intended bonus disc for the whole trilogy as well and release the whole thing as one awesome trilogy package.
Sounds good to me :)
So appreciative of your work on this and Empire. By any chance, do you have an idea of when you'll get to creating a SL Blu-Ray with menus?

Looks pretty good! What settings did you use to achieve this look, other than grain?
I've decided I'm going to redo all of the color correction from scratch so I don't have the original project file anymore but the gist of it was increasing/crushing the blacks, desaturating somewhat and shifting from yellow toward magenta in the midtones and highlights to give everything less of a golden sunlight look and more of whiteish look as seen in the OT. I think this shot turned out pretty well but a lot of other scenes I wasn't happy with so I'm going to try some other approach for the final color correction.
On another note, the workprint is now up on myspleen (no color correction or grain yet) For those who might want to check it out but don't have myspleen access, I'm going to upload it to a streaming/sharing site called streamnation, PM me for instructions if you're one of those people.
EDIT: Just realized the Palpatine transformation scene edit is screwed up. Sorry about that, it will be fixed for the final version.
Okay, so I'm going to be making a workprint available in the next day or so. I'll edit this post to let everyone know when it's up. It will probably be on myspleen and on my streamnation
I'd appreciate if anyone would give it a look. I'm basically looking for suggestions and feedback on specific cuts, general flow, audio editing, plot coherency and character motivation etc. Keep in mind, this version is a workprint, and is thus unfinished, as I've outlined below:
Unfinished Video:
Unfinished Audio:
To those that have these, how do the V3 DVD versions upscaled by a good Blu-Ray player compare to the 720p Blu-Ray versions?

The regraded prequels sound interesting. Would somebody upload it to a certain spleen ?
I'm seconding this request.
So far, only the 8gb version of ANH is on the 'spleen. I would love to see the 16gb versions.
thirded, specifically for the prequels, do they sync to the blu-rays?
Any updates on this project?
@lordsidi These are just 1080p HD versions of the 2004 DVDs of these films. They were preserved by combining elements from various HD broadcasts. The video should be clearer because it's in HD but afaik the audio should be identical to the DVDs.
EDIT: Is there any reason the alien subs are burned in on these? That's going to make it difficult to use for my edit.
I'm not really a fan of the rounded corners. I think the film should look as close as possible to a pristine scan of the o-neg, not a theatrical print. That said, it's Harmy's project and he can do what he wants and I'll still watch it regardless.
At the risk of becoming annoying, can anyone give me a myspleen invite for this, so I can use it for my edit? I've tried asking for one on the myspleen forums to no avail.
Hmm, would have to think about that. Would probably go through it shot by shot and bundle anything that would create continuity errors with one another.

Sounds like fun, though polling in this way could introduce incongruities unless some changes are clustered into packages.
Yeah, I would probably bundle some changes where it makes sense, I cant think of a good ANH example right but for example the Sarlaac beak in ROTJ, it would just be a yes or no to the beak, not to each individual shot featuring the beak.
This is an idea I’m throwing around, and I may undertake it after I’m finished with my current 3 in 1 prequel edit. The idea is to poll OT members on every single change to Star Wars, from the LDs to the Blu-Rays, and then compile an edit which includes every change that the majority of people are for and omits every change the majority of people are against. Basically a “democratically” semi-specialized edition. I’m not announcing this edit right now, there are still a lot of things to be worked out logistically, but what do people think of the idea? The sources would be:
2011 edition: Blu-Ray
2004 edition: Schorman’s HDTV preservation
1997 edition: Harmy’s Respecialized Edition (upscaled to 1080p)
1977 edition: Harmy’s Despecialized 2.5 (upscaled to 1080p)
As well as a variety of audio mixes
Obviously I would seek out permission from Harmy before undertaking this.
Thoughts?

I just noticed something interesting when comparing the two - the scene, which was shot on digital (the one where Qui-Gon takes Anankin's blood sample) actually looks better in the HDTV version.
Interesting. It's a sad day when we have to do fan preservations in order to get high quality versions of the prequels :P
Are there any comparison pics of ROTS? The colors on the blu look good to me so I'm surprised to hear that there's apparently a green tint.
What did you do to the BD in the "tweaked" version, just add a grain plate?
Also, I was mainly asking about ROTS from a color standpoint. I know the colors on the AOTC Blu were severely messed up, but ROTS looks good to my eyes. I was just curious if there are any differences.
Are there any significant differences between the HDTV and Blu-Ray version of ROTS?
So I've just learned that the blu-ray of AOTC is screwed up color-wise, so I'm going to hold off on any color correction until I get a better source. I'd like to check out schorman's version although I'll have to wait on a myspleen invite unfortunately :(
EDIT: the grain there looks much better. Still interested to hear how you'be arrived at the colors.
That's looking really nice. Out of curiosity, what are you using for reference when it comes to the color?
The title says it all. I have completed a workprint of my 3 in 1 prequel edit, but I really find the look of TPM and AOTC lacking compared to ROTS, not just from a detail perspective but from a color perspective. Does anyone know if there is a significant difference in the way these films were color graded?
