Printing out DVD Labels
Time
Hey everybody...I got my TR47 discs in the mail and they have a silver face. No idea if these things are ink-jet printable or not. I'm really hesitant to use my Epson R200 on them because the manual says to only use ink-jet printable DVDs (no thermal or "regular" allowed). Anybody know if this caution is bogus and/or if the TR47 discs are printable? Has anyone printed on them and had good/bad results? Thanks.

The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
I got my v2.0 set last week and I don't think you guys will be dissapointed. The only gripe I have with it is the weird yellow ghosting found throughout the beginning of A New Hope. Also, at the beginning of each film, the blue border around the THX logo extends past the right side of my screen. This may just be an issue with my TV/DVD player, but it leads me to believe that about an inch or two of video is cut off the right side of the film. Anyone else notice this on their TV/monitor?

I'd also like to point out that if people are going to post about sharing torrent files they should create a new thread. I think it would be nice if we could keep this thread all about our reaction to the transfers...not when, who, and what is being downloaded off the net. It would be especially helpful to this thread since it's already massive.

Here's the only problem I see with all of this: many DVD players specifically state in the handbooks that you shouldn't put ANYTHING on the surface of a DVD/CD. This is mostly talking about stick-on labels, but also includes printing and sharpie's. The reason for this is because it can disturb the spin of the disc while it is being played. This leads to the DVD/CD being scratched and/or the player being damaged. The ink from a printer and shaprie can also melt from the heat within some players and cause damage. Just a word of caution...

Info: A year ago I spent $80 on ebay... and a year later I found this site.

I'd like to provide you with answers to your questions, but A) I don't have a set of my own yet to compare with you and B) I have very little knowledge in general about burnig DVDs. I prefer just to shell out the small amount of money and get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for me. Sounds lazy, but...well, I have no excuse.

Gundrosens SW covers(1-6+classic+bonus)
Time
Gundrosen - First and foremost, great covers! However, something has always bothered me about the back...it just looks a little TOO plain and TOO white. My suggestion is to maybe add two vehicles right under the movie descriptions:

EPIV - X-Wing and Tie Fighter
EPV - Snow Speeder and Walker
EPVI - Forest Speeder and AT-AT

I may not have used the proper Star Wars names for those vehicles, but you get the idea. Anybody agree that those additions would look good?

Rebelscum - I think the real quesion is: how long are you willing to wait for the X0 project? TR47 is already offering an above average version while the X0 team is going through the films with a fine tooth comb - a proccess that could take many months, if not years. Don't get me wrong, that's the way it should be done and we should all be grateful they are giving up their time for the project. However, don't hold your breath for the X0 project. Get the TR47/Cowclops set now to hold you over until better things. Besides, wouldn't you feel like a dummy if the restoration projects get shut down and you're left empty handed? :::knock on wood:::

Darth Simon - Good point. Maybe releasing it to a handful of people doing their own restorations might be a better idea. And when I say "raw" I don't mean uncompressed, I just mean un-tampered with in terms of color correction, etc.

On another note...has the X0 team ever discussed an estimated completion date? I just joined the mailing list so they probably have or "it'll be done when it's done." Point and laugh at the newb (me)...

X0 Team - Ever consider releasing a raw capture of the three films before you do any restoration? There would be 2 reasons for doing such a thing:

1. Show people how good it looks before any changes are made to the color, noise, etc. to increase donations.
2. Get loads a feedback from people who think "scene x" needs work in a certain areas. After all, 100 heads are better than 4.

Only downfall could be the triggering of a C&D. It's up to you.

TR47/Cowlcops - I know you just got finished with v2.0, but are their any plans on a v3.0? Some suggestions would be trying to acquire a X0 LD player to do your transfer. It looks as though Laserman and crew are having great results with that. Also, I think you've mentioned before that you use miniDV discs to capture your video. If you used a more recent video camera that records onto mini DVD's, wouldn't that yeild a higher quality transfer? I'm not sure if mini DVD's have as much space as miniDV tapes though, so this might be more time consuming.
