Of course!
Well, I'm not just old-school, I'm old. So TOS all the way dude.
DuracellEnergizer said:
You haven't offended me yet.
If you say TNG is better than TOS, though, and that all of Roddenberry's worst ideas were actually great ideas, I'll hate you for life.
Alright, well, I think you're talking about Star Trek there. Is that allowed?

But... but... you registered in 2009...
Well... I got busy! Honestly, I started looking into the Star Wars preservation efforts at that time, but I didn't actually get a 720p disc burned until a few weeks ago, so I really wasn't active until now.

I'm trying to decide if I should be offended at this point or not. I certainly don't think enjoying making sarcastic and silly posts makes me a candidate for an ADD diagnosis. And I do love when people start throwing around an autistic diagnosis on someone they don't know, especially given they probably don't actually know someone autistic in real life. Or even more likely, do know someone autistic, but don't know it.
Ok, I've decided to be offended.
And now I feel officially welcomed to the forum! I'm off to a great start.
Let's see:
Just to be sure, is there anyone in this thread I haven't offended yet? I'll get right on it!
Speaking of the PT's influence on today's movies, James Berardinelli has a couple of relevant points in his review of Jupiter Ascending:
Visually, Jupiter Ascending excels, although those with an aversion to CGI may be offended. A close cousin to the special effects excesses of George Lucas in the Star Wars prequels, Jupiter Ascending makes sure that its entire budget ends up on display.
Jupiter Ascending is episodic and none of the episodes are developed as fully as they should be. The sense of incompleteness increases as the movie unspools. The love story between Jupiter and Caine is rushed, giving the Padme/Anakin affair in Attack of the Clones a run for its money as the least convincing sci-fi screen romance in recent memory.
Maybe we should be asking if the PT's influence on today's movies is ever a good thing...
Thinking about it some more though, Guardians of the Galaxy could also be accused of CGI excess, pointing out that the cure for that is good writing, direction, and acting.

Updated another clip from Reel 1.
Team Negative1
Right now I see 2 clips in the Star Wars 35mm LPP - Updates and Progress thread. Are there more clips in another thread?

Finally, your specialized knowledge comes in handy on a Star Wars discussion board! You knew this day would come. Now go treat George Lucas for ADHD. We, the experts, have diagnosed him.
Hmmm...
I neither made the claim nor support the assumption that GL has ADHD.
What I said was—from my POV—completely unrelated and intended to clear-up a common misconception.
Is everything OK?
I know, right? That's what I get for making a reference to something that was said on the previous page: link.
I think this board needs to start parsing smileys again. I'm fighting hard for the everlasting glory of sarcasm.

ADD is no longer part of the DSM. They chose to instead label with ADHD and provide subtypes.
With that being said, ADHD is more accurately described as an inability to regulate attention. It's less of "I can't stop shifting my attention" and more of "I can't stop paying attention to this even though I don't want to anymore" or "I just can't pay attention to this at all".

It still doesn't follow my comment on ADD.
Perhaps some clarification on your part is in order?

I think the phrase ABOMINATIONSABER was being thrown around to convey geekrage about the Sith crossguard lightsaber. Doesn't bother me.
Still, a non-sequitur is a non-sequitur.
Here, does this help put it back in sequence for you? :D

LENS FLARE DOESN'T COUNT AS AN ABOMINATIONSABER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely will be checking out Fall of the Jedi now.

Does anyone remember outrage about Darth Maul's double ended saber? It seems like any new thing can get some rage going.
I love McQuarrie art. I had the original published portfolio set of concept art prints when I was a kid. This one damn near made me lose my mind:

I think if Lucas has any mental disorder, it'd be ADD.
Speaking of ADD, I have no issues with the ABOMINATIONSABER, and I think a rolling ball-droid makes a hell of a lot more sense in the desert than R2-D2's tiny RC vehicle wheels.

Jake Lloyd was just fine. Find me an actor in all of stage and film who could deliver those lines in a way that DOESN'T make them awful and insipid.
It's definitely possible that with a different director and script, he could have given a good performance. If you only saw Natalie Portman's 'kabuki makeup' scenes, you might think that the mannequin they hung her costume on was a better actress than her, and she has been truly great in the right roles.
I dunno. How about some specific examples? The only thing that comes close in my mind to a movie series that succeeded purely on the strength of brand and CGI would be Transformers.
Honestly, no other movie franchise can be equal to the Star Wars films in terms of fandom. They're in their own category.

Would you believe I had to Google that to get the reference? But yeah, exactly. I honestly think that Lucas is autistic spectrum, and doesn't recognize human emotions very well. It would explain a lot.
But if that were true, then we would probably feel bad for giving him such a hard time. Therefore it's obviously untrue ;)
You might be a nicer person than me :D

The only film of PT that can be fixed by editing is TPM.
I'm not even with you on that one. Having Anakin be born on Tatooine, and sticking us as viewers on Tatooine, again, was a terrible idea. Casting him as an 8 year old, golden haired chipmunk with a cringeworthy love interest 10 years older than him, was a series of terrible ideas. To make matters worse, Jake Lloyd was terrible, and there's no getting around that. Not to say I didn't enjoy parts of all the prequel movies, but none of them can be truly fixed.

I cannot, for the life of me, find a search feature on this forum!
They took it down. Google search works well for the overall domain, but searching in individual threads is a pretty necessary function when threads get big.
The trailer was pretty cool, and I like the imagery I'm seeing so far. At the very least, Abrams has the ability to tell a good line reading from a bad one, which is important when making a movie.
Fixing the whole prequel trilogy would mean re-writing and re-shooting the whole thing.
As far as making the best of The Phantom Menace goes, I like seciors' Return of the Sith. I haven't seen the Magnoliafan changes to Jar Jar's voice, but I suspect that if you added the voice change and subtitles to seciors' edit, you'd be very close.
Are there any other fanedits that changed Jar Jar's voice?
The debate about whether or not those even exist is what got this whole thing started.
Not necessarily. I think that the goal has always been a 1080p blu ray compatible transfer. If he can get all the scenes to that standard, then he will.
