STAR WARS DVD Producer Van Ling answers the tough questions!
Time
Not only is Lucas dumping on all the artists that worked on the originals, but he is dumping on the fans who fell in love with the originals. If Lucas would make the originals available, I wouldn't give a rats ass what he does to the films. But by going and doing what he wants and not giving ANYONE a choice makes him a selfish bastard! It's the fans who created his empire. As soon as he released his 'work in progress' to the public, we owned it. We bought it. We paid for Empire & Jedi. Show some respect to the people who made you what you are today. At least say thanks. You power hungry, selfish bastard. GEORGE LUCAS IS NOT GOD!

OK, sorry. Had to let that out.

when did you see SW first...
Time
1977. I was 4. My aunt and my father took me and my sister. It was a Saturday afternoon, downtown Toronto. Huge screen, full theatre. I had no idea what to expect. I was blown away! From that day on, I ate, slept, and breathed Star Wars.

Another fond memory I have is in 1982. They were showing a double bill of Star Wars and Empire downtown at one of Toronto's biggest theatres. This theatre was huge! We sat front row first belcony. Before the feature, they showed the trailer for REVENGE of the Jedi. That was an awsome 4 hours!

Does this make sense?
Time
OK, we all know about the change in Empire with the Emperor and the new dialogue. Now, earlier in the movie, when the imperials receive the message from the probe droid about Hoth, Vader says, "...and I'm sure Skywalker is with them." Jump ahead to the new scene.
Emperor, "We have a new enemy...I have no doubt this is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker."
Vader, "How is that possable?"
Emperor, " Search your feelings Lord Vader."
Vader, "He is just a boy. Obi-wan can no longer help him."

So, at first, Vader is looking for Luke. Then, when the emperor tells Vader of the 'new enemy', Vader seems to be clueless. Then, in the next sentence, he is obviously talking about Luke. (I hope you can follow me on this) To me, that whole new scene makes no sense! Does anyone else have another take on this? Or is this just another example of how Lucas screwed up, again?!

New thoughts about getting the OT on DVD
Time
Quote

Since Lucas/Fox/whatever is oh-so-cleverly, and dishonestly, marketing the 2004 DVDs as simply "the original trilogy", I think the general public would be rather confused if the "original theatrical cuts" were finally offered for sale

That is why we have to get the word out that people are being lied too! Check out this thread...

http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=848

We need more exposure. The media can be powerful. We need a well written letter. I am not a good writer, but if someone can come up with one, I will send it everywhere! We need to take action against Lucas and his "Empire of Lies"!

You can't polish a terd...

...and that's what Lucas is trying to do! I just finished watching the ESB DVD, and I feel like I felt walking out of Phantom Menace. Trying to improve on the Special Editions is like trying to kill a dead horse! I don't even want to watch Jedi at all now. Not even for a laugh. I am really depressed and losing all hope. Lucas has lost it! These DVD's are terrible. Maybe we can persuade George W. Bush to invade the ranch and capture Lucas!

Surprise! DVDs preserve original version after all!

you DO get to see almost all the stuff you remember, treated as historical material. Give credit where credit is due

Did you ever think that the original footage was put in there as a marketing tool? Remember, the documentry was aired on A&E over a week before the DVD release. It showed all this "original footage" and said NOTHING about any changes being on the DVD's. I'm sure the TV rights were bought months in advance, and this was a definite marketing desision.

OriginalTrilogy in Toronto Sun!
Time
Hi all,
after writing to several of Toronto's biggest newspapers about the upcoming release of the DVD set, saying how it is being advertised as the "original trilogy", but is in fact an altered version, has got the attention of one of Toronto, Canada's biggest newpapers! There is a 4-page spread in today's Sunday Sun about the trilogy and the DVD's. It mentions this site and speaks of the changes in the DVD's. Hopefully this will help our cause! Here is a snipit...

"The real controversy, however, is that these are the digitally revised versions. In 1997, these versions thrilled millions in theatrical re-releases. But some fans believe that even the creator of the Star Wars universe has no right to tamper with his myth-making, science-fiction fantasy films. George Lucas, a restless perfectionist enamoured of the digital age he helped to pioneer, has introduced even more revisions now, bringing the roil to a new broil.

On the Web site OriginalTrilogy. com, purists have mounted a petition that implores Lucas to restore and release the original films exactly as they were shown in 1977, 1980 and 1983. The petition had accumulated 62,100 electronic signatures earlier this week. "

An article of lies and disgust - George Lucas talks re the 2004 OT SE DVD release...

i WONDER IF I CAN SEND MY VARIOUS VHS COPIES OF THE HALF FINISHED TRILOGY BACK TO FOX IN EXCHANGE FOR A COMPLETED FILM? NOT THAT i'D WANT TO ,THOUGH

That is a great idea! I think a letter writing campaign is in order. After the DVD's are released, I am going to write Fox, Lucasfilm and tell them how upset I am at how the made me think I was getting the "original trilogy". And until I get a decent response, I will keep sending letters to them and the media. Anyone else who has had enough of Lucas' BS should do the same.

PS

Is anyone here good at writing letters?

I agree that Jedi is better than Clones.

When Georgie boy dies, who gets the rights to the movies?

Also, what he said about the fans really pisses mo off. If it wasn't for us, the fans, where would Lucas be today? What has he done since Jedi in '83? Howard the Duck? Yeah. Why doesn't he fix that movie? here the fuck does he get off? He is where he is today, because of the fans! US! Lucas, you are a power hungry ass with an ego problem!

OK, I'm done bitchin'
