I've used the new forum software - it does exist, it's not vapourware.

It looks good and works pretty well, too. The beta has a few bits missing, but it's clear that it's going better than the FuseTalk software that ot.com currently uses. When these bugs in the initial beta are ironed out, the public launch will take place first at fanedits.com, with the ot.com forums being swapped on to the new system some time later.

I get the feeling it's close, but Jay has said he has some personal stuff going off at the moment (I don't know anything beyond that).

Be patient - the software doesn't make a forum, it's the people who participate.

Help Wanted: GOUT menu image request
Time
There are several programs that will remove menu links (e.g. PgcEdit) but the only way to remove or alter the actual text is to export the image as a BMP, doctor it in a graphics editor, then re-mux. With this particular menu it's even harder, because the subpic (that gives you the "highlights" in the menu) doesn't contain simple graphics (e.g. icons, lines or boxes) but a copy of the text, so that also needs to be edited to line up with the background image. Futermore, there are two different subpics, one for widescreen and one for 4:3 letterboxed.

I've been using the clone tool in GIMP which works pretty well, but you can always tell that the image has been 'shopped if you look closely.

And no this is not for Moth3r V2, it's my own customized version of the GOUT disc. Video will be processed as discussed in this thread and the mono mix and original Dolby Stereo will be added as audio options.

Darth Editous/Arnie.d discussed that on page 1 and it was concluded that the turnright/turnleft arrangement was not required. I haven't seen anything in my tests to make me disagree.

I've also been testing a gamma adjustment to the luminance levels and an increase in the colour saturation; it looks better on my PC's monitor (greys are blacker and pinks are redder) but I've yet to view on my main TV.

Idea & Info: Grindhouse (possible fan-edit?)
Time
Around 2-3 years ago, hotel ppv systems were commonly used as sources for pirate "SCREENER" copies. Typically the releases were presented as 4:3 pan and scan and were free of any watermarks or "property of" messages. All it took to make a copy was a laptop with a USB TV tuner.

I haven't stayed in a hotel recently, but I would expect these days that their ppv systems have encryption and tamper alarms to stop illegal copies being made. The fact that there hasn't been a scene SCREENER release of Grindhouse is a good indication that it's not as easy as it used to be.

STAR WARS: the alt.binaries.starwars thread
Time
In the past few months the group has seen:
  • A rare 1980 documentary on John Williams' work on ESB
  • Numerous DVDs and HD video files from Wookie Groomer
  • Two of babyhum's DVD releases
  • Belbucus' restored mono mix, and other audio files
  • The Story of TESB DVD from MoveAlong (and a repost of The Story of SW)
  • Daveytod's The Clones Revealed DVD
I'd hardly say that was very little worth downloading. (Unless you're talking about a different absw, e.g. alt.binaries.sounds.whalemusic? )

I'd given up on those jaggies. I'm just going to stick to the improvement offered by a simple EEDI2().

I also tried DeGrainMedian in conjunction with MVDegrain2. It performed slightly better at removing grain but unfortunately removed detail out of motion/panning scenes (which are already in poor shape after being trashed by the '90s DVNR algorithms).
