I love the idea of this edit. I have been toying around in GIMP trying to give a hand drawn matte feel to certain shots, and to add texture to the few bland CGI characters (Like Maz Kanata.) I have a really bad mockup image for Maz, does anyone know how to upload it?

I’ve tried to give her more of a ET puppet texture. (hard to explain.)

I wish I had the hardware and software to undertake this, sadly I do not. I’m sure that Emanswfan would be a great help with this idea.

To upload, try markdown-it.github.io.
You’ll have to find a place to host your pictures, for that you can try photos.google.com

Help: looking for... Star Wars VHS Rips
Time

I’m a really weird person for saying this, but I really want to see the original Star Wars Trilogy from a VHS rip. I remember as a kid having Return of the Jedi on VHS and it was amazing, I watched that more than I did the DVD, mostly because of SE changes, but I would still love to get my hands on a copy if anyone has one and is willing to share.

How silly is the film going to be in your edit? Will it be so silly people will be complaing to you because they wet their pants laughing, or is it going to be the original with a few laughs here and there.

You know what, you’ll just have to wait and see! I don’t anticipate it being a “non-stop adventure” of the sorts. As I said it needs moments of sanity for the insanity to be relatively insane. Honestly how funny you’ll find it entirely depends on you yourself.

Also a laugh track may be something to add if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’ve never been much of a fan of laugh tracks, because I seem to associate them with overrated shows (Big Bang theory etc) and truly funny shows (Family guy, Simpsons etc) don’t have need them.

I don’t think I’ll put them in this edit (also because it’s more work and I’m lazy) as I really don’t want to pretend this is anything other than Star Wars. In a way, I think it really is about being able to make the casual viewer feel this is a legitimate release and seeing how far they get into it before realising. That would be part of the fun.

This now sounds 10X more amazing!

As for the rathtars, who knows maybe someone could apply some sort of stop motion effect to get them closer to the something like the rancor and AT-AT’s of the 80’s (hey that rhymed)?

I’m starting to think this scene might have to end up as Jabba in the Hangar 2: The Sequel, unless I can make a convincing enough stop motion effect.

Well you might as well scrap this edit altogether since you shat on the only person who seemed interested…

I’m sorry for coming off as rude to him/her, and to everyone who posted on this thread because of that. I threw a post together real quick without thinking to much about it, and that was a big mistake. I’m still kind of new to posting of fourms in general, and I’m really enjoying it so far, but I’m still trying to get used to people not knowing what kind of emotion and points I’m trying to get across.

If you are going to take that attitude go run up a shutter.
You asked for ideas and unlike many of the people on here I actually posted a couple.
Good luck with edit. I’m sure you will do just fine without me poking my oar in.

I didn’t mean to bring attitude into this, maybe it was just the way you read it, but I genuinely want your help if you think a limp would make it look better, please help me out. I can’t guarantee that I’ll keep it in the final cut, but I can at least see how it looks in a couple of shots. Thanks for the kind words 😃

The same way the 1997 crowd made Han step on Jabba’s tail… only not quite as badly.

Jabba’s tail shot was not only pulled off by those harboring millions of dollars at their disposal, but it was only one shot.
There is literally no way in the world he could pull off a convincing limp for every one of the original cast.

That was 1997. With Ady being able to replace mattes and major set elements I’m pretty sure someone could pull off an unconvincing limp with modern digital technology. Get real 😛

Listen guy, I’m no special effects master, my knowledge of After Effects is limited to any tutorials I find, and me messing around for hours on end without any goal in mind. I have no idea where to start with a convincing limp. If you want your limp so badly, add it to your edit, or at least tell me how to do it be cause right now, I would make it look worse than the Jabba scene.

Huh, that’s a very interesting idea. I’m not an artist at all myself, but if done well, this could be pretty cool. However, when would you implement these matte paintings? Most of the movie is either close ups, or CGI moving shots. There aren’t many places you could put a matte painting in. Still sounds cool. Any color correction for the rest of the movie? That’s what I’m doing for my edit.

Yes, lots of color correction, especially in Starkiller Base. I hate the extreme levels of blue in those shots, they would look better if they were grey like the first two Death Stars.

I’m thinking of replacing shots like the inside of the fallen Stardestroyer that Rey scavenges in with matte paintings, and things of that nature. For moving shots, I would like to make them not as shaky so I can replace the backgrounds with matte paintings. Not all of the backgrounds are gonna be replaced though, just the more CGI looking ones.

I’m gonna be honest about one thing though, when I get to the Rathtars, I’m screwed.

(Original post on FanEdit.org)

Hi all, today I come to you with an idea so brilliant, that you won’t believe an idiot like me came up with it, make Star Wars The Force Awakens look like it was made in 1986.

I didn’t come up with idea actually, it was an April Fools prank that the ‘Star Wars Trilogy Despecialized Edition’ Facebook page posted, but it got me thinking of how it would look,

so now I’m doing it.

Now that the history lesson is over with, I can get on with the main reason I’m making this post, I need help.
I’m just an editor, I can only do so much. I mainly need artists who can make matte paintings similar to what appear in the original trilogy, mainly Return of the Jedi.

Even though I’m looking specifically for artists, I’m also open to any help I can get, from people who can make puppets, to models, to pretty much anything when it comes to practical effects.

Thank you for reading my lame post. ❤️
