I know they kind of look the other way when it comes to 35mm trailers etc., but I thought they were pretty strict about 35mm full-length features. There are a lot of things that they've gotten pretty lax about- bootleg DVDs included.

How about this:

1. How would people feel if Citizen Kane was altered, or The Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind? That’s the crux of the issue.

2. This is important, since this seems to be what Lucas always brings it back to: no one is denying Lucas his original visions of the SEs, we just want high quality OOT discs for ourselves.

3. Contact Jay Sylvester of originaltrilogy.com for more info. On that subject, we need to PM Jay to get the petitioners’ assistance, and I wonder if there is anyone here who knows him well and will be able to help. I don’t want to annoy him, but we need him.

4. Lucasfilm can do this (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa121.html#fr). They just won’t. It is important to do this in terms of preserving American culture, to say nothing of the hours of entertainment which could be provided.

5. We need help.

6. Robert A. Harris, who restored Lawrence of Arabia and Vertigo, wants to do this restoration, and he is not just some fanboy. This is an important issue.

The need to keep our mailings short seems essential to me, as is the need for some physical letters, as has been pointed out.

Yes, we don’t want to be long winded, but we want to make a point. Just imagine it now, emblazoned on the cover of Entertainment Weekly: Jay Sylvester and originaltrilogy.com: The Battle Over Star Wars

And we need to keep on Lucasfilm as well. Thanks to everyone for their support! Maybe we can still win this. Or at least get even.

All good points. I can imagine "The Battle Over Star Wars" on the cover of EW, or TIME.

I don't think there's anything LFL can do about showing 100 of your closest friends the DVDs in the privacy of your own home (as long as you don't charge admission), but I know that you couldn't show them in any public place, like a restaurant.

A 35mm print is a different deal- since 35mm prints have never been sold by LFL, they are all still the property of LFL and if you own one- it's stolen, so you're breaking the law simply by possessing it.

In LA a man once owned a 35mm copy of Star Wars. He was a private collector of 35mm prints and had converted his garage into a screening room. The neighbourhood kids would sometimes gather in his garage and they would be delighted to a private screening of Star Wars, back in the days before home video was common. Somehow, wind of this caught up with Lucasfilm/the authorities. The print was confiscated and the man either jailed or fined, i can't remember.

The laws have sort of changed since then in light of the explosive growth of home video but its an interesting story nonetheless. I would say if it is a privately held screening then there is absolutely no problem with it--if it is a 35mm print then some complications may arise, especially if it is popular and the print is not a legally-obtained one (which it likely will not be).

That's because, in general, 35mm prints are illegal to own. If you've ever looked on eBay for films, you'll see that they don't allow 35mm or 70mm prints to be sold. We were discussing this a while back in another forum- but actor Roddy McDowell's home was raided in 1974 and had his collection of 35mm prints seized by the FBI.

Luke VS. The Abominable Snow Man/Wampa in ESB - oddly enough, the wampa didn't hit him in the face
Time
I think the opening is fantastic- I think it was very creative of them to put the main protagonist in such peril a mere 3 minutes into the film.

They've always denied that the Wampa scene had anything to do with MH's real-life injuries. Supposedly the scene would have been in there regardless.

Also, MH definitely had more than a broken nose. His upper lip was injured- and he still has visible scars above it, and his front teeth were broken (he met his future wife at the dentist's office where he was having reconstructive dental-work).

Expecting too much of George Lucas?

Rick McCallum, you mean?

Rick McCallum being the biggest, followed by Steve Sansweet (who pretty much just does George's bidding), among many others who GL has hired not to criticize him.

And Luca$h still hasn't made the movies he wanted to make. Count on it.

Yeah, the SE OT still doesn't suck enough to match the PT....

George Lucas has isolated himself to a point where he can no longer see the forest for the trees. All artists at some point get too close to their art, and lose objectivity. That is why it's so important for creative people to get feedback from others in order to gain perspective.

How the prequels should’ve played out:

Heheh, I think another perfect TV- to-movie translation was way-back-when with Star Trek: Wrath of Khan. The absolute essence of the TV show translated to the big screen, and never achieved again despite a slew of subsequent movies.

Interestingly, the New Beverly Theater here in L.A. is running "Wrath of Khan" and "Serenity" as a double feature later this month. I'm going.

"Kahn" was on TV the other night- I've always loved that movie. I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but that was a great film. I'd love to see it on the big screen.

This whole mess will never ruin Star Wars for me - I won't allow it to. Even if the best source for the OOT I'll ever have are the laserdiscs (which is what I assumed up until a month or so ago) or these new LD-master DVDs, GL and RM will never be able to control which versions of the OT I watch. Even if they're of a lesser quality than what they should be, I will still enjoy them. I enjoyed my pan-and-scan VHS tapes when that's all I had, so there's no reason why I can't enjoy the laserdiscs and the 9/12 DVDs.

I will buy these new DVDs, and unless they're released again down the line in a better format, it will be the LAST product of Lucasfilm's I will EVER buy.

I think something like "WEEK 1 - EMAIL WRITING CAMPAIGN- SOUND AND VISION MAGAZINE" (or whatever) would eliminate any confusion.

I post at a forum for a rock group sometimes, and they just recently finished a tour. Every night of the tour, someone would start one thread, like "5/11/06 SHOW #8 - DETROIT, MI - PHOTOS/REVIEWS" and everyone who attended the show that night would post the pics they took, the setlist, and write their impressions about the show in that particular thread. We did this every night until the tour was over, and it worked very well.

I think that same idea would work for this project.

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Slightly off topic....I was just watching "the world series of pop culture" on VH1, and one of the questions was: "In the 1980 film 'The Empire Strikes Back' Billy Dee Williams played Lando Calrissian, who's the administrator of what facility?" (or something like that).

So, there's 2 people on stage, both completely stumped. *cricket noises*
Neither one of them got the answer (it's 'Cloud City' BTW....LOL!)

All you have to do to get the sleeves out of the plastic cases is open the case all the way so it lies flat. Then you can pull the sleeve out with your finger. You don't need tweezers- they come out very easily.

Oh......my..........God.............

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was gonna say something, but there's no need to.

Oh, man. That seriously made my day.
