My girlfriend has never seen Star Wars!
Time
I had two friends who had never seen any of the SW films, so I sat them down one day and we watched episodes 4-6 (the OOT versions, of course!) Unfortunately, they were my P&S Faces VHS set, but that's all I had at the time.

It was a lot of fun watching their reactions to Darth Vader's revelation (somehow, they didn't even know about that), and the Luke/Leia revelation.

I see you looked through the thread, but if you'd paid attention, you would see that the X0 LD player's circuitry is dedicated solely to NTSC.
Yea I know, it just amazes me they limited such a good player to ntsc only.
Most of the good-to-great LD players are NTSC, due to the huge acceptance of the LD format in Japan, and the moderate success of LDs in North America.

I've heard (from people who know more about LD players than I do) that even the best PAL LD players were mediocre, at best, when compared to just mid-level NTSC players.

Pioneer made the best players, and being a Japanese company, I guess they just didn't put much effort into PAL players.

What do you think of the Prequel Trilogy? a general discussion thread

I agree, I think that's a sign of bad script-writing, bad plotting. Not everything should have to be verbally explained- things should just 'happen' and we should be able to understand what's going on. The opening crawls of each film fill us in on what's been happening, and then that should be enough to get us caught up.

The "What's so important" line sounds like it was looped- which is probably why it sounds funky. I think Luke's "but I was going to Toche station" line was also looped, and to me it was really his only cringeworthy delivery in the whole film (the audience actually laughed at that line when I saw the SE in '97). I think it's hard sometimes for the actors to loop the lines- keeping in sync with their mouth movements while at the same time trying to re-create the proper delivery of the lines.

I think overall Harrison did a great job in SW, an even better one in ESB, but seemed to lack enthusiasm a bit in Jedi.

I still think the performances of everyone involved far surpassed the performances in the PT, however.

Luke saying Noooo! as he saw Ben disappear could have been fairly cheesey with different music I think.

I actually thought that his reading of that line was very heartfelt and convincing, as was the scene immediately following it where Leia is consoling him. I think Mark Hamill's performance in SW was his most natural and unaffected out of the the 3 films.

For Those who bought the Sept. 12th Release, Thoughts so far?
Time
"-Is the non-anamorphic quality bothering more than you thought?"
No, but I have a 4:3 TV.

"-Is the quality actually better than you expected?"
Yes!

"-Are you just putting aside any quality issues and just enjoying the movies again pre-97?"
Yes.

"-Have you put your hands up, and just become disgusted with Lucas and SW in general now?"
I'm disgusted with Lucas - I'm not counting on there ever being an anamorphic release of the OOT in the future.

"-Has it made you want to watch the PT movies and become a saga fan PT + O-OT..."
What's the "PT"?

"...or are now a true O-OT fan and the story ends with ROTJ, and begins with SW."
Always have been, always will be.

"-Have you pushed others to buy it who were on the fence?"
Yes!

"-If a remastered O-OT never comes out again, will you be content with this set?"
Yes.
