I read a story in Empire magazine when TPM came out about how Alec Guiness, after being approached by a young fan, boasting he'd seen star wars over 100 times, told to said fan to promise him one thing - never watch star wars again.

I think I read somewhere that he also suggested to the child's mother that she get him professional help. :-P

I've heard the story about the 20-pound note before and it struck me as funny. I have a feeling it was done in jest.

Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years

Just when it starts getting quiet around here.... ;-)

With Disney at the helm, I guess things won't be any WORSE than they currently are.

If Disney somehow manages to release the OOT, GL can maintain his distance from the idea & claim his hands are clean of the project.

Why did this chroma shift only occur in ESB?

I don't know why it's only in some scenes in ESB. I just know Lucasfilm are masters at screwing their movies up. And the GOUT trilogy is full of errors.

Sorry - I guess we were talking about 2 different things. I thought you were referring to the color-bleed that I sent pics of to d_j early on when he first released ESB BLU V1, e.g. a red bleed on faces in certain scenes, and a white/yellow bleed in the crawl (the bleed wasn't on his ESB DVD V1-V3, nor was it on the GOUT).

I think either you or d_j mentioned it again a while back when you started work on BLU V2, so I guess the problem was already addressed.

Have any of the actors from the original movies ever commented on the prequels?

Back in September of '04, I distinctly remember my roommate and I catching something on vh1 called "When Star Wars Ruled the World." As you might've guessed from the timing, it was all an excuse to (albeit quickly) pimp the dvd set in the last moments (Ben Burtt says something like "oh, I'm looking forward to the dvd release, just because of the quality").

Anyway, another thing they bring up in the last moments is, of course, the prequels. Now, remember this was a vh1 documentary and, as such, had very quick back-and-forth sound bridge editing, but Mark Hamill definitely says (and I'll try and type this the way it sounded) "I saw the new movies, aaaaaaand, they're not Star Wars."

I wish I could just find the clip somewhere to show you guys so you could actually hear how he says it. He doesn't have a harsh tone in his voice or anything, quite the opposite. There's that very cautious way he says "aaaaaaand" like he's thinking "oh, I don't want to piss anyone off with what I'm about to say." The way he says "they're not Star Wars" is as gentle as can be.

Like I said, all of this goes by in like two seconds, but afterwards you process what you heard and you're like "...... MARK HAMILL said the prequels AREN'T STAR WARS." Obviously they're weren't any hard feelings from George. I mean, the guy invited him to Celebration V. In fact, I might just be reading too much into Mark's comment.

And who knows what he thought of ROTS!?

That's weird because I have that on DVD and I don't recall him saying that. I'll have to check it out again, I suppose. :-/

That sounds like this

(I didn't have it but a friend did, I coveted it greatly.)

I think I have that around someplace- it belonged to my nephew and I rescued it from being sold at a garage sale (along with a couple of ESB and ROTJ lunch boxes).

I always liked the cover art on that record.

I didn't like that article's Hamill-bashing.  I always felt he's been wrongly maligned.  But I suppose that's for another thread.

I don't like that either.

"And Mark Hamill has trouble saying much of anything. But after Lucas put all the pieces together, Star Wars was a revelation......And with the special effects in place, you somehow forget that Hamill couldn’t have cut it on daytime television."

I guess they forgot he was once on General Hospital.

Even if the original negatives decay to a point where they're completely beyond restoration, maybe technology will one day improve to the point where you can do a complete restoration from something as crappy as the GOUT.

You'd still be better of using existing 35mm prints (however faded they may be) than using the GOUT as a source. It's a lot easier to color correct than it would be to digitally manufacture detail. The prints are out there- collectors have them.

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the Gold Bikini

I thought her bod looked pretty good. I've never thought Carrie is pretty face-wise (to me she'll always look like a cuter, female Eddie Fisher) but she was definitely in good shape back then. I actually just finished watching her on Craig Ferguson & she looks like she's gained back some of the Jenny Craig weight. :-/

Happy 35th Star Wars!!!
Time

It's so weird, because today is my nephew's birthday (who is also a SW fan) and for some reason, I totally forgot about it also being SW's birthday this year which I normally never forget. Maybe because there's not much to celebrate in SW-land today. :-/

I must have remembered it subliminally, though, because early this morning I printed out a SW pic that I want to use to make a T-shirt.
