Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Fair enough Mike. I still think some tweaks could be made but I understand just how subjective that is.

And yes that was exactly my point about camera images. Being foremost a Boba Fett expert, I have seen many people's pictures of the exact same original costume. They all look very different. You simply cannot use them for color reference. In the absence of any solid, calibrated reference you have to cross reference many different sources and try to find a pleasing middle ground; Just as Harmy has done here.

Because of my experience with the variance of color from camera shots, I am the most distrustful of the Senator shots. I think they should be considered in finding that pleasing middle ground but not be featured as largely in the current color curves.

Just my opinion. I wont continue to pester Harmy. Carry on gentlemen.

I feel you. But that's the problem inherent with creating a new color scheme.

I think quite a few people have mentioned the yellow skin tones and sepia-like tendencies at points. I feel like that could be enough for a shot at some different settings.

You_Too went back and forth with many different setting before people agreed it was looking correct. I think to get it closer to perfect some adjustments might be made.

That is in no way meaning I dont appreciate your work or am trying to give you a hard time. I just feel strongly about the colors and especially think using the Senator images for the overall tone is not a good choice.  For years I have looked at pictures of original Star Wars props taken by people at exhibits and the colors differ hugely from one camera to another.

Yeah I guess that's true. What I mean to say is I agree about the yellow skin that has been brought up. And the colors of everything seem to be "flat" and not have enough contrast to one another.

I know the DVD/Blu ray colors are avoided like the plague but I have always thought we need to move closer to them.

The on-set photography (though still flawed) Shows that there may be a hint of blue in the Tantive shots. And that the Death Star interior reads more grey than green. I think you are definitely close with the current color scheme but have taken it a bit too far in the opposite direction from the LFL releases.

I think You_Too's version of Tarkin looks far better. The whole warm color scheme is becoming more clear with things like this brought up.

I think the whole shot looks better with the new curves.

Just to remind people; although the shots from the Senator are good guidelines for what we need to see it is extremely flawed. Somebody took those shots with their camera! There could be a huge difference between what the camera picked up and what was actually seen.

I would really like to see the entire color palette become less yellow.

Yay! Green lights!

You_Too; the upper chestbox light is indeed meant to be a green one but it was never lit. It was just the plastic cover glued on there.

I am going to be a bit critical about one point. (for a change LOL)

The saturation and opacity of the green lights on the belt and Obi-Wan's saber are too much. Neither element looks like that in the GOUT or 97 SE. While those arent perfect I think they show just about how they should look. This is similar to the problems I have brought up about Vader's saber in other scenes and the ESB sabers.

Less is better. I know you are trying to bring back the brillance the originals might have had but I think it is too far. If you can cut down the color saturation and make the flare around the saber and lights less that would be better IMO.

Not trying to pick on you just thought I would bring that up for the future. Thanks again for making the color correct at least! I appreciate it.

Actually after watching it again and looking at the GOUT in the upper corner, I think everything looks too yellow and there is not enough blue or red.

Just like in your ESB in an attempt to remove the over-saturated blues, I think they have been taken too far down. A little more blue is not a bad thing.

The skin tones and hallway colors are too yellow. Check out the hero shot of the old rebel soldier. He is very red in the GOUT and very yellow with these new settings. Also compare Vader's entrance its too yellow as well.

I would rather have the colors be closer to the blu rays than too far in the other direction. Just my opinion.

You can see it in this shot. Whether it's in any others, I dont know since I have never seen V.1.

His belt lights look green in the GOUT.

Also I while watching this I think in the shot of Vader saying "When I left you-" The saber is too opaque. It looks fake. I know you are trying to make the effects consistant but when looking at that youtube video even the 2004 Dvd looks closer to the look of the original.

Just pointing that out. If you want to do anything for these critiques I would love it!

I like the Jaitea version the best. It looks the most like the original.

Using that shot and adding the little fixes (like the hanger opening) would get the best result I think.

Your lastest version though improved, still has the same type of problems the first attempt had, just less. There is too much loss of detail on the ship and hanger wall. And even though that hanger wall is ugly as hell, it should still be able to be seen.

Sorry but I think V1.0 looks better.

V2; I think the contrast and sharpness are far too much. I know what you are going for but I think it makes it look more out of place than a blurry washed out version.

What is going on with the starfield and window sils? The stars are very faint and on the window I see that you have incorporated the 35mm look but it looks too sharp I think.

Sorry to be critical.

In Harmy's version of ESB, Luke says to his wingman "Stay tight and low.."

But you can see his mouth move right afterwards as if he is speaking the line I remember from the special edition "This is it!"

Assuming that Harmy has not made a mistake (highly unlikely I would think) when was that second line added? Does it appear in earlier versions than the special edition?

Ask the member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints AKA Interrogate the Mormon

I guess it just comes down to what you think the intention of religion is. If you think its just a system of rules about not doing certain things or you go to hell then absolutely there are Many versions of this based on Christianity.

But if you believe in Jesus and understand the "new deal" he taught us about then the only thing that should govern your everyday life are his teachings.

An example of branches of Christianity who make up rules and say they come from God is the whole gay bashing thing."God hates gays." Umm.. God doesnt hate anybody. And even though the bible contains of few examples of homosexual acts being not want God wants, it is never said you Will go to hell if you indulge in them. Nor does it list "Thou shalt not be gay" as a commandment.

So why do these crazy religious people jump all over that issue? Why is being gay a Bigger sin than "Thou shall not steal, kill, commit adultery, covet thy neighbors stuff or wife?

Just to clarify I am not gay, I just see a lot of these sort of things at the Liberal Arts school I work at.

Ask the member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints AKA Interrogate the Mormon
Time

After visiting Colorado last summer I was left wondering about Mormons so this thread is already of interest.

My thing is this; why is the theology based on the teachings of some guy in the 1800's who claimed he had visions of God instead of historic scripture? You cant base a religion on the Bible and the teachings of Christ and then add a bunch of new rules to it.Granted the Bible has many variations and authors but providing the intent of the teachings of Christ are preserved what else matters? Why make up a whole new set of rules for earning your way into heaven when the teachings are what is important and they are already established?

Lots of branches of Christianity have crazy rules and traditions that come from man and not God. People tend to forget that Jesus did not stress the importance of ceremonies or traditions. He didn't say "Make sure to ring the little bell three times to make it Holy" Or "Its more Holy when you do a mass in Latin" (Digs on the Catholics ; )

He taught about the importance of loving God and each other. Also that we are sinful by our nature and therefore we can't ever behave well enough here on earth to earn a spot in heaven. It is by the grace of God we are saved and that comes with faith and trying to behave the way he taught us.

Now that's not saying I think Christians should behave badly just because its human nature to sin. But as far as rules for how we should live Christ essentially is saying, Try to live the way God wants you to live because that system works. He was a patient and forgiving teacher.

Sorry that's not a very clear post. Here is another question;

I understand masturbation is not allowed and that is based on a passage from Genesis? If that is correct I would wonder how that connection was made since the passage is not really about that.

Peace. Be excellent to each other..

How about the Vader belt lamps?  This is an error from the 2004 color correction and I wonder if you think you can fix it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ReF_G3Btg&feature=youtu.be&hd=1

Check out the green color on the right and the blue on the left.

I realize it might be too minor to bother with but if you think you can do it that would be cool.
