It looks like this edit doesn’t trim anything right? It’s the entire series just in order?

Ya I could splice together some edits to match my head canon. I’ve done a lot of audio mixing in the past but not so much video editing. Getting the audio and coloring to match between different edits would be a challenge.

This edit seems like a more updated / better version of the Anti-Cheese edits seemingly also getting inspiration from some of the more “modern” edits along with anti-cheese.

Sounds really good! I hope this project isn’t dead. Would love to see Phase3’s take on the whole PT.

I’ve dabbled a little with Spence and Hal’s edits and read about some of the other edits. Just wanted to get opinions on who has the edits that best match my head canon:

TPM:

• Overall good pacing (I know Spence is great at this)
• Great video and sound (Hal and Spence’s edits are both good here)
• Love the idea of Jar Jar (and potentially others) speaking an alien language with subtitles. It’s kinda the only way to have an adult version of TPM. Which edits subtitled Jar Jar?
  – YES - Anti-Cheese
  – YES - Phase3
  – NO - Hal 9000
  – NO - Spence
  – NO - Theatrical
• I’m ok with Gungan city being there minus some Jar Jar antics or Boss Nass spitting everywhere. It’s a beautiful scene visually. I think Spence did this pretty well. Gungan City?

  – YES - Spence
  – NOT SURE - Phase3
  – NO - Hal 9000
  – NO - Possessed
  – NO - octoroxx

• Less Jar Jar and Anakin childish antics or bad acting. Comparisons (mostly from descriptions) - LESS to MORE:

AOTC:

• Overall good pacing (I know Spence is great at this)
• Great video and sound (Hal and Spence’s edits are both good here)
• Less whiny / creepy Anakin
• More believable Anakin / Padme love story as well as more believable fall of Anakin.
  – I think most edits try to do this?
• Yoda unleashed - only because there was so much anticipating to see Yoda fight when AOTC came out. This isn’t a deal breaker just a slight preference - most edits don’t leave this in. Who left it in?
  – YES - Theatrical
  – YES - Anti-Cheese
  – YES (I think) - DsqrDStudio
  – FORCE ONLY - Hal 9000
  – NO - Spence
  – Seems a few other edits removed this too.

ROTS:

• Overall good pacing (I know Spence is great at this)
• Great video and sound (Hal and Spence’s edits are both good here)
• Yoda unleashed - leave the Yoda fight. There was so much anticipation to see Yoda vs Sidious. Without it I think something would be missing although the scene could be cleaned up a little to remove a little cheese - most edits don’t leave this in. Yoda unleashed?
  – YES - Theatrical
  – YES - Anti-Cheese
  – YES (I think) - DsqrDStudio
  – SOME - octoroxx
  – A LITTLE (clone troopers outside Jedi Council) - Spence
  – NO - Hal 9000

• Less cheese in Anakin / Obi-Wan duel - Hal and Spence both did great with this! Cheese level:

  – NONE - Hal 9000
  – SOME - Anti-Cheese - Spence and Hal’s edits have less cheese in this duel than the Anti-Cheese!
  – LOTS - Theatrical
• Padme living like in Hal’s version is great. At least not losing the will to live ugh. Padme…
  – LIVES - Hal 9000
  – DIES (but not from losing the will to live) - Every other editor I hope.
  – DIES - LOST WILL TO LIVE - Theatrical

ANH:

• I think Adywan’s edit satisfies my wishes - just want and HD version. I think @octorox has an upscaled version? Me want!

ESB:

• Adywan has all that I need here. I think @octorox added some minor prequel tie ins to this. Would love to see that.

ROTJ:

• Eagerly awaiting Adywan’s version but I would be open to some more substantial edits to ROTJ like…
• Better pacing
• Less Jabba muppet show and Ewok silliness.
• Absolutely no “Jedi Rocks” Ugh!
• Force ghost can be either aged Hayden or Shaw

TFA:

• Better pacing
• More continuity between movies (one of the biggest flaws with the ST)
• Great video and sound
• Make Rey not immediately Godlike powerful with zero training (another common criticism of the ST).
• Hate the idea of Starkiller Base but nothing we can do about that…

TLJ:

• Better pacing
• More continuity between movies (one of the biggest flaws with the ST)
• Great video and sound
• Fix Luke’s character. He is nothing like OT Luke in TLJ. Maybe an edit that pushes him a little more in that direction.
• Remove cheesy unnecessary scenes. (Canto Byte or however you spell it)

TROS:

• Better pacing
• More continuity between movies (one of the biggest flaws with the ST)
• Great video and sound
• Less cheese! Like horse like creatures trotting around on top of a star destroyer or even hundreds of star destroyers coming out of nowhere.
• I hate that Palpatine is back but I guess there’s nothing an edit can do about that. I like Lioz’s edit of having Anakin take out Palpatine once and for all - he is the chosen one after all right? And he’s the guy that already did it in ROTJ.

Anybody know the perfect edits for my head canon? 😃

I’ll edit this as I think of other items on my wish list.

The Anakin/Jar Jar stuff is to taste, and most edits do remove a lot more of them than I did. I personally feel that too much of them is cut out in most edits, which makes everything feel disjointed. I’d rather have a few silly moments that make the whole better.

Specific moments for me are when Jar Jar gets the battle droid wires stuck on his foot then miraculously takes out 3 battle droids at 1:37:20 or so. Ugh…cringe… Or Anakin’s “woah” at 1:44:30 or so. Just minor things.

Also, your idea of the force battle with Dooku/Yoda is actually what a lot of other edits do, famously HAL9000’s. So a version like that does exist. Not sure about the senate fight. I don’t feel that we should cut away from the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight as it’s much more consequential. The Palpatine fight is cool but doesn’t really add anything.

I’ll check out Hal’s too. I think Yoda DOES have to fight Dooku and Sidious. With Dooku he is saving Obi-Wan and Anakin. It also doesn’t make sense to me that Yoda and Obi-Wan would want to take out Anakin but not Sidious? I also find the Yoda vs Palpatine fight to be very symbolic. They are fighting in the senate chamber essentially fighting for the Republic. And this somewhat explains why a powerful jedi like Yoda would go into hiding. I don’t think the theatrical version does that enough but you get the jist of it at least. Ie…that Sidious is basically as powerful as Yoda but has thousands of clone troopers at his disposal as well.

My duel is pretty close to HAL’s but I cut a bit more than he did, while keeping some stuff he cut.

Yep - will check Hal’s.

EDIT: Just watched Hal’s Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel - it is also great! I also like how Hal handled Yoda vs Dooku if you’re in the camp that doesn’t want Yoda jumping around all crazy.

I’ve been checking out bits and pieces of these edits and have some feedback.

I watched the end of TPM and there was still a little too much Jar Jar and Anakin childish silliness for my taste. That’s the only criticism I have so far.

For AOTC and ROTS I still kinda miss Yoda fighting. I remember being so excited about seeing that in the theater. It seems most editors have removed that which leaves a bit of a hole IMO. If you were really against Yoda using a lightsaber and flipping around so much I wonder if there was a way to have Yoda have a “force battle” with Dooku and Sidious only. Ie… After Yoda and Dooku start throwing things around Dooku realizes he can’t win and instead of saying “Now we’ll test our skills with a lightsaber” or whatever it would be him dropping the thing on Obi-Wan and Anakin and dipping out. It would be tough but I wonder if there’s a way to have Yoda and Palpatine flinging stuff at each other including the senate pods without the lightsabers. That one might be nearly impossible.

Order 66 looks great! I always wanted to see more of what was going on in the jedi temple and fortunately got some material to show that.

What I’ve loved the most so far… OMG your Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel is phenomenal. You cut out the silliness like the bad CGI kick, the flipping sabers around behind their back, and some of the dialogue. I always hated “Only a Sith deals with absolutes” and “I have the high ground”. Those are cringe for me. Especially the only a Sith line". Are there any other edits that have similar cuts of that duel? I’ll go check Hal’s next I suppose.
