I know you sent me a version. It was an Apple format (FLAC? Or is that minidisc?) I've got a large amount of various source materials that I really need to categorize.
"A disc featuring 8 seperate audio tracks has been a plan of MeBeJedi's for a while, but since 8 is the max and new ones kept popping up, I think he's put that on hold for now. Either that or he was waiting for the X0 transfer to be finalized before making that disc."
For the most part, yes. The video requires a great deal more work. The audio stuff is easy, even speeding/slowing/syncing the audio is a piece of cake in Vegas.
Once the video is done, a lower-resolution transfer can be made to accomodate more audio channels.
He doesn't want the region codes to make the DVD players compatible with the SW DVDs. He wants the codes so he can make the library think he's doing them a favor by unlocking the players for any other DVDs they may have that cannot play on them.
"Imagine the OOT with properly corrected colours, no grain/dirt and without any motion smearing... I don't recall the X0 team saying anything about being able to 'undo' the motion smearing "
Correcting the colors and removing the dirt is technically very easy (and is being worked on as we speak......er, type), but removing "motion smearing" is getting a little dangerous, as you risk adding visual information as much as changing it. I'm curious to know which scenes in partiular you are talking about, since motion blur can be a good thing (which is precisely why Lucas developed motion control.)
I know that Tarantino is the same way. He'll never release a "Director's Cut" because he makes the film he wants the first time. I don't recall which film commentary states this, though.
"Also, they have mentioned that the audio hasn't even been discussed yet. Couple that with "raw" footage and you've got a product that won't represent the project very well. "
Well, I've already got a straight digital copy of the LD PCM track, which is about as good as it gets, and I used that to create a pretty good 5.1 track which received a lot of compliments. What else is there to discuss? The audio part is pretty darned easy to do.
