Oh, I know. I'm not saying all the fans are like that....I just tend to avoid the ones that are.

I'm sure quite a few of those fans would think of me as a geek for all the work I'm putting into the X0 Project, and quite a few would probably have a negative view of this project as well.

[EDIT] I like the photo on your website, but I would have photoshopped the photographer out.

I was videotaping a wedding for a DVD, and the groom's brother showed up with lightsabers. Needless to say, I forbade my wife from mentioning I liked Star Wars. When he asked me later, I said I preferred Star Trek.

Many people have asked me if I'm going to the next SW convention in LA, and I have to admit, I'm a but scared of the kind of people I will meet there.

DVD-Lab help, please...

Yes, but I'd like to learn how to do it with cells.

I see what you want to do now. You need your video to have all the parts together - beginning/end. When you drop the video file into the movie, you will see it next to the Motion box. Slide the slider to the end of the beginning video. This is where the playback will stop and loop. When you make a selection, it will play through the slider to the end of the whole video.

Right now I'm having the fun time of trying to figure out why I can't link from the main menu to my scene selection menus. I try to draw a link to them but the scene selection menus are grayed out. It's driving me insane!

Are they greyed out, or crossed out with a red X. If it's the latter, then you have segments in different VTSs. Can you do a screen capture of the overall layout?

should I get the GOUT?

"IMO, anyone who doesn't want to buy it on principle, why cheat yourself out of more enjoyment?"

It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm just amazed and annoyed at how Lucas completely ignored this opportunity, and tried to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. I'm also not impressed with the screwed-up audio. Both DVDs are an embarrasment, and the surprising lack of sales has finally made LFL take notice. Had I and many others ignored principle and bought them, Lucas never would have noticed. Wouldn't surpise me if the 30 year box was stopped because someone finally talked sense to Lucas.

Or maybe they've just grown so inept in home video releases that the 30 year box was just considered too much of a bad joke. I dunno, but I'm not waiting around to see what kind of feces Lucas is willing to slap a Star Wars label on next. I'm gonna do what he can't, and that gives me a much better feeling.

" Yes, but you own the Laserdisc version. "

True, but it's not been hooked up to a tv in a long time. Meanwhile, I just watch the X0 files right off the hard drive.

"how in the heck do you make scene selection menus that are built from scratch in this thing?"

Either drag/drop a scene from the video (click on the video in assets, and then fast-forward through the video to a scene you like), or click on the text icon and type in the name of the video/chapter stop.

After doing this, right-click on the video or text, and create a link to the actual video. Do this for each chapter. If you need more pages, create a link to the second page the same way (and create a link on the second page that comes back to the first.)

"What do you mean with menu cells? Do you mean a motion menu with buttons displaying the different scenes?"

Yeah, I'm not sure what this means, either. Can you explain what you want to have happen on the menu screen?

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?
Time
"and in ESB she kisses Luke full on the mouth."

True, but she was focused on pissing off Han, and Luke was conveniently close. Luckily, closer than Chewie or 3PO.

"it is obvious that Lucas didn't originally intend Jedi to only communicate with other Jedi in this manner."

Ben sensed the cries of the people of Alderaan. Was that a planet full of Jedi psychics? What Luke did is not much different from the Jedi mind trick - putting your thoughts into someone else's head.

"Look at how ”no, there is another” was handled. He wrote and filmed that scene before he had any idea at all who the other actually was."

Correct.

"Great example you used with LOTR. Those stories were very well thought out and they are very thorough. No pretzel logic needed."

Although a few key scenes in The Hobbit had to be rewritten.

"Anybody see that part on the ROTS DVD where Rick McCullum admits that they had to go back and refilm the scene with Obi-Wan picking up Anakin's lightsabre because "we kind of forgot he gave it to Luke in the next film."

LOL....yeah. I almost wish they had forgotten to do that. It would have been the funniest thing in the world.

"Lucas said that whoever he was with said to him, "George that is the first ship you see in the Original SW"

That person should have said it was a not-very-close fascimile of the first ship, but I digress...

"but could you have achieved similar/better sharpening results using the 2006 OT as your source?"

Only for the scenes that weren't altered. The altered scenes would have to be taken from the LDs regardless, and then matched as much as possible to the GOUT video - which would not have blended well. It's better overall just to focus on one source, and make it as good as possible (at least, better than LFL can muster. )

"Any word on when you'll be finished with ROTJ"

Butthead. Actually, ANH will require the most work overall, so ESB and ROTJ should be much quicker projects - especially due to the lessons and procedures learned from ANH.

That being said, I wager ROTJ getting done before the new forums.

"Look no further than "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" the novel that was almost the sequel, for proof the whole sister thing was pulled out of someone's thermal exhaust port."

Agreed. It's almost nauseating to read that book because of the thoughts Luke has about Leia.

"This is obviously a reference to sophocles famous play oedipus rex."

LOL..no.

Frye's is having a sale. I think they're still available at that price for a little while. There were several cartloads available when I was there. (The website price isn't discounted).

Oh, and I just ordered the Firewire card from Meritline. 40 bucks. Also, the cables are much cheaper there than Fryes. (4 bucks, vs. 24 bucks!)

"I'm very glad you guys are pressing on and sticking with this project."

You know, with school testing coming up, doing my sister's wedding video, and toilet-training my 3-yr-old (He doesn't mind having a soiled diaper), I just have too much of a life to continue wasting it on this project for you guys. It's been fun, but the thrill is gone.

Just a personal update. I've just purchased a 1-terabyte external hardrive for $369. Now I can unload all my space-hogging home videos, and make more room on my 300Gb, 400Gb, and 2 500Gb hard drives. AVIs are a bitch.

(Now, I just need to upgrade to a 400Mbps firewire card. That's being ordered now. )
