Vegas will let you align various audio and video tracks - much easier to sync up the two.

Vegas change change the speed of the soundtrack, and I can splice sounds in and out. Believe me, I've had to do it to some extent with my english THX set. Suffice to say, it's possible.

Z6PO, If at all possible, could I get you to send me a PCM copy of the french soundtrack? I'm also expecting a copy of the german soundtrack, and would like to have as many different versions as possible. Let me know.

Having recalibrated my new monitor, I've made another capture with no modifications. IVTC looks much better now (but still not quite %100 percent.)

I'm now using Combustion 3 to remove any and all visual glitches in the video, such as "sparkles" and stuff like editing out the yellow tape marks left by splices in the master video. I've also played with trying to remove matte boxes in the space scenes, but I've yet to create a seamless effect ---- yet!

I knew someone was going to bring that up, and you are entirely correct. That being said, recreating the crawl is a real bitch. Every new attempt I've made brings up a host of technical problems. (That doesn't mean I'll give up, just that I'm not looking forward to try again.)

No doubt. My preference is for the original Manhunter. I just wish they had the "As an adult, I want to blow the sick fuck out of his shoes" line (or something like that) in ANY of the DVD releases. That's one of my favorite lines, and it only exists on the VHS.

The problem is, even if you remove all the crap from Red Dragon you will still be missing the character development and other important bits that were given to Lecter. It may have butchered the ending (though I like it regardless), but the films are very similar beyond that (not exact, but similar.)

BTW, if anyone has a "Howard the Duck" LD, I'd LOVE to transfer that to DVD. Lea Thompson......mmmm, mmmmm, good!

Okay, just wanted to give my initial impression of Combustion 3. It kicks ass!

Photoshop for video - who'da thunk it?!?

[EDIT] In fact, rather than recreate the opening crawl for the tentative "'77" version Magnoliafan and I were planning, it would be far easier to just remove "A New Hope" from this crawl frame by frame. This is great software!

There is one concern, however. The script for the serial number isn't working, so I can't put in the authentification code. Anyone got any suggestions?

zion, I'm finding out that it's better to capture with as neutral values you can get, and then playing with color/contrast/etc. in your video editor. This pic is from my raw capture. Nothing really sticks out, but every color and detail is visible.

Good idea, especially since it works in W2000.

That sounds intriguing in a Lowry kinda way.

BTW, I guess I'm really going to need to play with CCE, because my initial results don't look any better than those I get with Mainconcept.

IIRC, convergance alignment is for front/rear projectors. It aligns the Red/Green/Blue guns (bulbs). I had to do this on my father-in-law's new rear projection HDTV.
