That depends - is there a setting to switch between recording in anamorphic and non-anamorphic mode? I don't know what your player is, so I couldn't tell you if anamorphic recordings are possible or not.

Otherwise, if you are simply joining MPEGs from the DVDs and the LDs, the jump in bitrates could conceivably cause a problem with older players. You should talk to Rikter about how he measures bit-rates. I know he does that with all the versions he's watched.

"Well since you are doing an anamorphic set, you don't have the option of burning them into the black bars, really. The black bars that would be put there on a 4:3 TV are not part of the encoded video (I realise you probably know this already)."

Incorrect. The black bars are manadatory in the MPEG.They must be there to create a "legal" 720x480 frame. If you look carefully at an anamorphic transfer of a film with a ratio other than 16x9 played on a 4x3 television, you will see that the bars immediately above and below the picture can be a different shade of black from the rest of the TV screen. Since SW is 2.35:1 instead of 1.78:1, then you will need the black bars. That being said, I had no problems burning subtitles into the black bars.

"And on a Widescreen TV they would look really weird so far down."

Have you seen such subtitles? I thought they looked fine on my transfer.

"OBEEONE"?!? ROTF!

"The only problem I have found in editing the capture from the DVD and from laserdisc one reedited some old DVD players will have problems when playing the Han Solo and Gringo seen. on my old Sony DVD player locks up but on my APEX and Pioneer DVD player this DVD plays back with no problems."

Are you trying to combine anamorphic and non-anamorphic video?

Dark Empire Collection - OT LD to DVD set (* unfinished project *)
Time
1. Make sure your LD player is plugged in.
2. Make sure your monitor AND video capture program are calibrated. If you do one or the other, your colors could be way off. Get Video Essentials, calibrate the monitor, and then calibrate your capture settings.
3. Turn off all other programs. Video capture is CPU intensive, and you don't want dropped frames. Otherwise, IVTCing is more difficult.
4. Have a lot of hard drive space ready for capture. Some programs, like VirtualDub, will "create" a file to be filled in during the capture, but it's hard to gauge how much space you need beforehand. In uncompressed RGB, ANH takes up 200 Gbs. Using HuffyUV, it takes @50Gbs.
5. Get more disc space. If you intend to run filters or such, you will need up to double the space for the "filtered" set of AVIs. That is, unless, you intend to make changes to your masters, which I wouldn't recommend. Lord knows how many times I've had to redo a compile because of some dumb mistake (not clicking a particular option, etc.)

Those are the biggies. Let us know if you have any other problems.

Original Trilogy set I made from Laser Disc to DVD (using the Faces LDs) (Released)

"I'm not mad that i bought the LD's I like to have them just like people like recorders. GL might edit them again these EWOK movies. If he does I'm glad I have the LD's. I bought them about a year ago any way."

And you shouldn't be...I have a modest collection of LD's, but I do like having them. I also have some really old 8-inch floppy discs. Back in the day. sigh.

Guys, I don't know why you are even concerned about whether there would be changes or not. A year ago, there was no indication that these films would be on DVD (and only vague rumors that the "original trilogy" would even be on DVD.) At the time, it made sense to get these LDs if you liked these films.

"I really do not care if someone copies my DVDs but I do think it is arrogant when somebody says I'll get your copies later in somebody else or in trade."

Actually, he's only being honest. Every other version you see on these boards is or will be available as a BitTorrent. If you sell to someone on these boards, it'll be there much quicker than if you sold it on E-Bay.

Considering how many free versions there are already available, coming to these boards to sell yours really isn't in your best interests (not to mention the fact that you're not allowed to sell your version on these boards anyways.)

You should spend some time getting to know a board and its people, then none of this would have happened.

"Please if any one my DVD set not to trade with this person I talk to him by email his email address is rikter_blaksvn@yahoo.com user name is First Name: Rikter
Last Name: Blaksvn
Nickname: Rikter"

LOL...only a person with 8 posts would think that nobody here knows who Rikter is.

I've put a great deal of time, effort and money into my own transfers, but it was for the transfer. This is something I've wanted to do for years, and have slowly acquired the money, technology and know-how to do it right.

You want to make money of off your set - go to E-Bay. You'll be rich. But don't come here presuming to tell us what's what around these parts until you've gotten to know the people. Rikter is quite the man here, and as for your "warning", well, it's pretty funny to the rest of us.

BTW, once you've sold it on E-Bay, don't be surprised to find other people selling copies of your transfer, much less giving copies away for free on BitTorrents. Then again, considering we are all stealing Lucas' "intellectual property", none of us can really bitch about it anyways.
