Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)

where can i get it again?

If you have Usenet access then it was posted on alt.binaries.starwars a LONG time ago... avoiding the obvious followup line there...

1002 days ago for the KCCI version. Giganews should have it, maybe another provider.

And it looks like the Zion Hybrid was posted 309 days ago. Don't know if those are helpful.

I realize this was probably answered somewhere else in this thread, but rather than trudge through all 113 pages I'll just ask:

How can I get on deck for the project blu set once it's released? Do I need to send blanks to DJ?

I would happily suggest that we not even think of sending blanks to DJ. He's done so much work with this... and I can imagine being sick enough of it that dealing with burning would be overwhelming. I'm hoping (can't assume) that it will show up on Usenet.

Which leaves me wondering which of my local friends has a blu-ray burner. And unfortunately that list is infinitesimal.

If the alleged changes are true...I really think the old man is starting to lose it...or he is literally trying to give the finger to the people that prefer the UOT...

I wouldn't say that necessarily...

Just that he / they want to give people a *reason* to buy it. You may have the 2004 DVDs... but they aren't the most up-to-date tellings of the story, anymore.

I wish the trilogy supplements were available with the separate trilogies.

I wish they'd just bite the bullet already and get the whole thing officially released.

But then what would we have to complain about?

Oh, yeah, the lack of the original commercials, lack of the four (?) commentaries that are loose on the Internet, lack of the strange and wonderful special features that are out there and would make a wonderful set of supplements, ...

At least, they probably wouldn't clean it up or give us a "George's original version" update. Can you imagine the lot of us griping because they didn't give us the original, unaltered, 1978 version of the Special?

If the Special were on the Blu-ray discs, it at least would give me far more incentive to buy them.

The newsgroups I may do, not 100% sure yet, I still read here that some just do not get it, or will not try it, or just don't understand how to use it, hell or maybe all the above, so learn it, this may be the way I go, I am leaning more towards this method.

DISCLAIMER: I only just discovered this thread. And I've read a few pages in fascination.

What brought me was the posting of the V3 DVDs on a.b.sw.

I understand that the quote above concerns only the Blu-ray discs, but a few minutes ago was the first time I'd ever heard about the DVDs either. So I ask only in curiosity...

dark_jedi, is it you who's posting the DVD versions? Not that it matters, I suppose, but I want to tell you that I'll be downloading them. Wasn't at all sure (there are a LOT of Star Wars edits and preservations!) but the opinions here make it seem more than justified.

Thank you for your good work -- some of which I've seen before, and more of which I'll soon be downloading.

(And I will say these about the newsgroups: they offer wide propagation and (with a higher-level provider) a sense of permanence. Both good things.)

Info: Droids and Ewoks, anybody ?
Time

As a viewer, I'd wait. My level of patience has waned over the years, and I can't see watching it twice in a short amount of time.

I already have all these in *ghastly* quality, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the best possible presentation when I watch them again.

(And thank you for your hard work in making that possible. I am looking forward to them. As the Special Edition trailer put it, years ago, "To see them again... for the first time.")

EDIT: I'd responded solely on the basis of quality. Thinking back to when each "Star Trek" episode got whittled down to make room for more commercials, I'm definitely not interested in a copy that's lost footage when something superior is in the future.

So it sounds like someone tried hard to make it a seamless experience, which is exactly what we *don't* want. Especially with one Ewoks episode cut in two so that three other episodes occur within it.

I used to assume that there would be an official release, thought the same about The Little Mermaid. At least those aren't mostly ignored. Disney actually broadcast the Mermaid episodes in HD at one point.

If Gilligan's Island can have a DVD set (I just picked the most random thing I could think of, turns out it *does*), why can't Droids? Sigh.

Do you have the Ewoks 'On the Run' DVD set? All I want off of that is the 'Ewoks and Droids Adventure Hour' Intro. Kind of hard to spend 30 bucks just for that though.

Interjection from a lurker: I'd never heard of the "On the Run" DVDs. Just found them via Google. Is it in any way a legitimate outfit?

I assume that the answer is NO, otherwise you folks wouldn't be doing all this work (which, from the samples, looks just amazing).

Just pondering...

There's an excitement to the esoteric aspects of Star Wars. My wife watched The Star Wars Holiday Special exactly once, when we were dating, and refuses to watch it again. ("But you don't understand -- it's a different transfer with a commentary track about how awful it is!")

I've seen some of the Droids and Ewoks episodes. The commercial DVD features, of course, in which it was sadly obvious that one of the Ewoks features was a splicing of four separate but thematically linked episodes to mimic a whole.

And the others, especially Droids, I'd love to see. I have the AngrySun disc and some of its quality is dreadful, which is why I never finished watching them.

I feel awful about your loss. Know that there are people out here looking forward to what you come up with!

Hi, I'm a newbie, and I'm very interested in obtaining a "Droids" complete set, if and when it's finished. I'll pay anything... ANYTHING! Well, maybe not "anything," but... you know.

Please don't talk about money, it used to be prohibited here

Y'know, I'm pretty sure that money's STILL prohibited here.

But to be less flippant, you won't find anything for sale hereabouts. Unless it's from someone who just hasn't been banned YET.

The Muppet Movie Extended Edition (Released)
Time

The Muppet Movie is one of my favourites from childhood, and every so often I pull out the soundtrack CD just reexperience it. After reading this thread I'll have to pull out the DVD and give it another watch.

To those more watchful than I: How does the DVD compare to the laserdisc? I'm excited by the thought of this extended edition, and I'm also curious how much of the missing material might have been reinstated.
