The biggest german StarWars forum I know, has a topic about this site stickied since... erhm... I forgot since when, but it's been there for a long time - a long time. And I suppose it'll stay until hell freez...errr...the OT comes out on DVD.

I've seen a quite noticeable amount of german speaking signers as of late. I'll order a small scout arm... err... see to it that I find any new german languaged sites supporting the petition, so they can get kudos for their support.

If that was of any concern to him, he would have given orders to his troops not to shoot any protocol droids (Hehe, or equip some troopers with Jawa guns). I think if Vader had known that Boba Fett was made from the same "MoJo" as his Stormtroopers, he would probably never have interfered (it's almost a miracle 3P0 was hit in the first place).

A little help here...
Time
@HAL 9000: I'm already fighting the epic battle in the thread pimping this petition. I think we sure got quite a few signatures from that thread. Other than that, I'm not really willing to participate in an OT vs. SE discussion that is bound to derail into a flamefest ever so often, plus it doesn't help us getting more signatures, imho.

I still appreciate your spirit, though. You've helped quite a lot to keep the petition thread floating on top and arguing for an OT release on DVD. Rest assured I will hold your chair warm until your return.

George Lucas' explanation why the OT is obsolete to him

As far as I know, the shockwave ring that was taken to 'enhance' all of the planetary explosions, was meant as an homage to one of the old StarTrek movies. I also think it's a bit pointless to talk about realism when referring to a StarWars movie. I'm pretty sure that a 'scientifically correct' exploding planet would look neither like the old nor the new version. I just like the old explosions better - it's as simple as that. Long live unrealism!

For all you mac lovers our their (this is for you dayv) :)

Heh, actually I happen to know the guy who made this parody. Here's the background story of his mockumercial:

Hello, this is Hunter – yes THE Hunter of the Mac Switch parody in question. Why should you believe me? Because my last name is spelled Cressall – and who would make up a thing like that?

First off, the parody can still be seen at: http://rochess.net/?p=Apple
So go there and see this man’s excellent work in avi compression and file serving. Oh, and please don’t slashdot the poor bastard.

Ok, second (sit down please) I am a professional Mac user. Yes. I use Macs every day for money. Sometimes I get paid tens of thousands of dollars for using our Macs. Ok, I don’t get tens of thousands of dollars myself…but my employer does. And the Macs are the conduit through which cash, more than not, copiously flows (we shoot and edit commercials for GM).

So why lash out at Mac by making all that crap up? Easy. I didn’t. All that ‘crap’ happened. Most of it happened THAT DAY. SOME of that crap happened editing THAT MOVIE. Why, you may ask, does YOUR Mac or YOUR Final Cut III not crash like ours? Are you cutting uncompressed component video for broadcast? Do you have half a terabyte of drive storage that is constantly between 60% and 80% full at all times? If the answer to these questions in ‘no’ then you aren’t using the Mac like we are using the Mac. We play hard and our Macs crash hard – just like PC’s.

The sad truth? Mac’s and PC are just about as stable as one another right now. We use them both. We rely on them both. We crash the hell out of them both. The only difference is that Microsoft and Intel know better than to call their systems crash proof. Why the hell do you think Microsoft made up the term ‘business solutions?’ Because they couldn’t say STABLE!

I don’t hate Macs per se; I hate their arrogant ads. (I hate Microsoft for a whole bunch of different reasons)

So Mac users, get off your high damn horse. Macs are computers…and the C in COMPUTER stands for crash. Get over it. And for any one else who wants a piece of me – unless you still own your original working AppleIIe with 80 column card and an Imagewriter II with three color ribbon, you aren’t qualified to tell me that I like or dislike Macs. I was Mac when Wolfenstein was a top down scroller.

Yes, I still have an Apple IIe. I have two in fact. They never die. Anyone else remember choplifter? Want to play??

Oh, and props to Chris Nuccio for his line ‘…you have to sneak up on a Mac…’ I thought that captured a certain passé le mutard.

Lucasarts cancels Sam'n'Max 2

Steve Purcell, the creator of Sam'n'Max has made a public statement, commenting on the sudden cancellation of Sam'n'Max 2 (Source):
Quote

LucasArts' sudden decision to stop production on Sam & Max is mystifying. Sam & Max was on schedule and coming together beautifully.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of the writing, gameplay, hilarious animation and the gorgeous 3D world that Mike Stemmle's team has created. The rug has been pulled out from under this brilliant team who've so expertly retooled Sam & Max for the 21st century.

I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed especially for the team who have devoted so much effort and creativity to Sam & Max. It's a shame to think that their accomplishments, as well as the goodwill that has been growing in the gaming press toward this project, will all go to waste due to this shortsighted decision.

Thanks everyone, for continuing to make your feelings known.

Edit: Here's yet another comment from within the company (Source):

"It was the first cancellation I've ever seen that wasn't due to poor performance on the part of the team," an anonymous Lucasarts employee told us. "I just don't get it."

"A young jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil - helped the empire hunt down and destroy the jedi knights." Nothing more - nothing less.

Any early 'bodycount' figures are nothing more than hyped up rumors, imho. Anakin/Vader will have his share of the kill - I am pretty sure of that. But lets talk about this again in may 2005.

GENERAL GRIEVOUS confirmed
Time
When it comes to the prequels, I have to admit I'm a 100% fanboy (just as much as when it comes to the OT). So I'm actually looking forward to Episode III - and yes - even to see General Grievous in action. The prequels are the CGI-guys' playground and I have no problem with that. The only thing that should be off limits to them is the OT (need I go into details here? Hehe, I guess not).

I think General (or even Darth?) Grievous has the potential for a great temporary villain. I agree that it would be nice to focus on one villain during the trilogy and have that one being finished off in Ep3. But I have to say that I'm not entirely unhappy with the approach that is taken for the prequels. These films are not about those villains, they are about the guy who's about to become the one ultimate villain that outlasts all the others before him.

I think that it's not that bad to show that Sidious considers his servants to be nothing more than disposable assets, that only serve one purpose - to further his goals. It just proves that Vader is much tougher than all those guys we've seen in the prequels. Heck, he even kicked his Bosses' ass when he tried to replace him like the others before him.

It just puts the focus away from those guys and onto Vader, if you ask me. I like that alot. All power to the dark lord. Forget about those three other wimps, they were Palpatine's fancy cannon fodder - but nothing more.

Lucasarts cancels Sam'n'Max 2
Time
Some of you will probably know the popular series of adventure games Lucasfilm (and later on Lucasarts) made, starting with "Labyrinth" and "Maniac Mansion" and ending with great games like "Grim Fandango" (it had very poor sales figures, although it was a superb game with an excellent story) and "Monkey Island 4" (a mediocre attempt to continue the series, it's low sale figures were kinda justified, imho).

"Sam'n'Max hit the road" was a significant milestone in the lines of great adventure games made by Lucasarts. It was an homage to the comic books and the cartoon series with these two characters (there already had been occasional cameos in several Lucasarts games before that).

It was only about a year ago that Lucasarts finally announced a sequel that really rekindled many adventure game fans' hopes that Lucasarts would step back into the limelight, ceasing to just manage Lucasfilm's movie licenses and outsourcing game development to companies like Factor5 and Ravensoftware.

Now, Mike Nelson (Vice president of Lucasarts' finance and operations department) announced the discontinuation of the development of the highly anticipated adventure game:

"After careful evaluation of current market place realities and underlying economic considerations, we've decided that this was not the appropriate time to launch a graphic adventure on the PC." (For more information on Sam'n'Max and related information, visit the page that served as the source for this article).

Edit: Added hotlinks to factor5 and ravensoft for informational purposes and italicised the quote.

SE Trilogy DVDs' covers
Time
I think Luke should be on the front cover next to Vader instead of Yoda anyways. It's the OT - this about Luke vs. Vader (well it's also a bit about Yoda vs. Palpatine, but that's more of a background theme, imho).

Edit: The "Final Conflict" one is my personal favorite, though. Because it solely shows Vader and somehow suggests that the 'final conflict' in this trilogy might also refer to the conflict within his tormented soul. Plus the simplicity of the design makes it stand out for me.
