Just something to mention that may be better for The Last Jedi thread, but if you were to hear Palpatine say, “Find me” when Ben holds the wayfinder, then I think it would be good to use poppasketti’s ending with Palpatine communicating with him in his edit of The Last Jedi. It even adds consistency to this fractured trilogy.
I’m surprised nobody has made an attempt to extend Ben’s death to add more breathing/grieving time to take in his loss.
Do you still plan on keeping Rey and Ben’s visions together, or separate them? I think DominicCobb made a good attempt at separating them.
I think I just kick-started a whole discussion about restructuring from that clip I posted the other day. 😄

I like DominicCobb’s idea of separating Rey and Ben’s visions from one another, as he put is, the editing felt too ADD. I don’t remember who, but someone here pointed out that it doesn’t make sense for Ben to rely in Vader’s helmet now that he knows that Palpatine has been impersonating his grandfather the whole time.
Another suggestion I have is that, if we’re going with poppasketti’s incredible work on replacing the Snoke clones with clones of Palpatine, then I think going with the concept of Snoke being an apprentice of his could work. The line, “I made Snoke” could still be kept in, as if he’s implying that he created the dark lord Supreme Leader that was Snoke, but I would remove Snoke’s line, “you have ever heard” if we’re not making Snoke a clone.
It’s not a bad idea in removing Mustafar, but I think we should try playing around with the idea of Ben touching the helmet on the ship, his vision, establishing shots of the planet, then we get into the action.
nl0428’s mockup is what got me thinking about Kijimi today, incidentally.
I mainly did the mockup to showcase how breathing room could be improved to grieve Leia’s death, and more importantly, move Ben and Han’s conversation to later, for more emotional impact, not to feel too soon (as it was placed after Chewie screamed), and to help Ben not be offscreen for so long.
Here’s the clip that I used for the landscape shot in the clip I posted. The down side is that it’s 720p.
The destroyers will all still have those big guns mounted, but nothing in the movie would need to spell out “THESE ARE MINI DEATH STARS” or actually destroy yet another planet.
If they still have the guns, but they’re not planet killing weapons, then I’d be down for that!

Here’s something I just picked up that shows another continuity error. When Threepio gets his memory restored, he tells Artoo that he’s going with Rey on “her very first mission.” That’s not true, as she was sent on a mission by Leia to bring Luke back at the end of The Force Awakens.
I LOVE the idea of using the Vader helmet shot before he meets Palpy, since it makes absolutely no sense why he would connect with it after learning that IT’S NOT VADER! 😄

If the unresolved subplot of Finn telling Rey he’s Force sensitive is removed, how could we do a good job of removing, or trimming the banter between Finn and Poe before they are executed/saved by Hux?

Wasn’t the German dub (based off the 4kids English dub) available on dvd with 5.1 audio mixes? You could use that to help remove the dub score from the English dub.

I’m not sure. I don’t own those DVDs and I wouldn’t be too sure if the English track is in 5.1. The closest to the Japanese version is the French version, and I’m not sure if those have 5.1 audio mixes.

I’ve mentioned this before, but does anyone have any ideas on how we could extend Ben’s death by having Rey grieve his death longer. In the film, it completely glosses over it almost entirely. No idea why, especially since he’s one of the most important focal point characters in this trilogy, and is my personal favorite character in the Sequel Trilogy.
As hard as the task may be, if there was a version where Ben lives, why would he go into exile? To fully resent the Dark Side within him, or that he feels he cannot be a part of the Resistance because of his past actions as Kylo Ren?
My two cents…
I have a pal who’s a professional movie audio guy, and the studio he works at — which does sound mostly at the documentary/indie films level (not huge Hollywood) — has lots of high-end sound software to (try to) accomplish all kinds of weird clean up of audio that low-to-no-budget indie and docu filmmakers throw their way. For some of my movie restoration work I’ve thrown him small clips — less than a minute long — for cleaning out dialogue or music from something already mixed to stereo or mono, and while this is totally in his wheelhouse and while his results were decent-to-good (but not perfect) some of these bits took him an hour to do; an hour of his time using all the resources at his studio/work to clean out music or dialogue from a .wav file under a minute long.
So my two cents is that it seems things aren’t there yet as far as your initial request and that you look well into the alternative mentioned by ThatPixarGuy as your solution…although it would be cool if someone chimed in here with a cleaning method that works really well and is not nearly as time intensive.

That I don’t know… Hulu has Sonic X subbed, there’s a chance that they may have 5.1 mixes for the remaining episodes. If only we had an official release in the US…
I don’t have Hulu. Do you think you could check to see if both the English and Japanese versions are mixed in 5.1 on there?
I’ve actually tried doing this (before I made a permanent switch to the sub, hate the 4Kids VA’s now) and I was somewhat effective in removing the Dub VA’s, but the audio sounded awful. On top of the fact that 4Kids cut many lines or scenes entirely, it can be messy. Ultimately, there’s no easy way of doing this. I’d play around with Audacity or Audition and see if you get a better or good result. Good Luck!
I have used Audacity, and I’m still not too good with audio mixing and extraction. What about the second half of the Japanese version?

Has there been a discussion yet on how to preserve Chewie’s reveal that he’s alive be removing scenes or re-ordering them?
