If George Lucas Did Lord of the Rings

not as far fetched as you would think.

at one point in time Saul Zaentz actually wanted to have George Lucas direct the lord of the rings movies.

Even before he made star wars lucas was a fan of the books. He even wanted to make lotr movies or get the rights to it at some point and instead we got willow.

Even spielberg another fan of tolkien's work was considered but passed on the project because it was obviouslly too expensive to make. These were the times lucas and spielberg where at the height of their powers the 1980's.

george even folowed the making of the lord of the rings trilogy with great interest and said peter had done a great job with the films.

that reminds me of the fact that spielberg was supposed to direct the first harry potter film and had haley joel osment cast in the role. Spielberg wanted to make changes from the novel and wanted free reign in the project and was actually fired by J.K Rowling herself . He was replaced by the director of home alone. I think spielberg was not too attached to the material anyway. of course John Willaims was there from the get go and stayed on through the directorial change to do the music.

That is a big what if. just like if james cameron had made spiderman and had leonardo dicapcrio in it.

I am so glad Lucas did not get the rights to Tolkien's Masterpiece, because we would have been treated to endless re-releases and revised Special Editions. I think Peter did a fantastic job.

Ok, that's it and now back to work for me.

That is amazing, adywan.

Hyperspace: Good or bad?
Time
I had hyperspace for 1 year and didn't renew my subscription because it is way overpriced. Hyperspace should be discontinued because the films are out and done and no one should have to pay for news on an upcoming DVD release or stupid webstrip or picture. I mean what is there to charge for? Hyperspace is internet robbery at its best.

General Harry Potter Discussion
Time
The Rohan people of Middle-Earth are directly inspired by the inhabitants of the land in which Beowulf takes place. Everything from there language ( which is an altered form of old english ) to their ways of living, and the Golden Hall was inspired by the mead hall in Beowulf. I n a documentary about Tolkien on the Extended DVDs it is stated that Tolkien was dissapointed at the lack of mythology England had. And he didn't consider King Arthur Engligh mythology because it is actually French this salso stated in the Documentary. So to fix this problem he constructed his own mythology not necesarily about England but of a land somewhat similar to and ancient english land. So yes he also borrowed and got inspiration from other storie. Every author does in some small way.

P.S. Tolkien didn't invent orcs or elves, or ents. He just made these magical and mythological beings his own and constructed them to fit his story.

Sorry to get off topic.

Ep 3 death star !
Time
In the novel Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader Tarkin says that the first Death Star is experiencing multiple delays due to not enough workers, contractors not fullfiling their deals, supply problems, and other things. If this was the case then I am sure the first Death Star took longer than the second. Also, remember that the senate was still around when the first one was being built and the emperor was trying to hide it from them, and this hindered who he could hire for fear of the wrong people knowing and bad publicity. By the time the second one was being built the senate was disbanded and he could hire anyone he wanted and basically do whatever he wanted. The emperor was using basically the entire imperial force and power to build the second one so this also spead up the process. So I think the timeframes were realistic.

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing

I'm just now getting into using Vegas for this. For the first time a couple of days ago I came up with a process for this:

1) Export just the two shots you want to crossfade to an M2V file.
2) Load the clip into VirtualDubMod and save as an uncompressed AVI.
3) Open the AVI in Vegas and do what you want with it. Save as another AVI.
4) Encode back to M2V using TMPGEnc.
5) Load the new M2V into your Womble project.

The results are GORGEOUS. I'll likely do this from now on, and will use this method to do the wipes in SW whenever they eventually happen in Hi-Def.

ADigitalMan, could you be a bit more specific about this process. Like how you export a file to an M2V file in Womble because it only lets me export stuff to Mpeg files. And which avi codec you use in Vegas to export your clip. Also, TMPGEnc only allows you to export MPEG files. Please help me to figure this out ADigitalMan.

I think I'd like to totally remove the scene in Episode II where Anakin talks about killing the Sand People. The problem is that there's no way I can see to move from the scene before it to the scene after it. If you'll put your DVD in your player and look, you'll see what I mean. The only thing that comes to my mind is to shuffle some scenes, which won't work well for me since I can't generate my own scene transition effects.

Any bright ideas? I'd love to see this scene go, and let Anakin's trip to the dark side be somewhat more gradual.

Why don't you just put a wipe inbetween the scenes, or you could fade into black at the end of one scenes and fade out of black into the other.
