Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Not so sure. The OOT is his only "special feature" left. The current Blu-ray set has a treasure chest of deleted scenes (albeit looking like dogshit). Whatever he releases next on whatever format, it needs to have an extra incentive to buy it. The OOT is that incentive.

Actually, there is another special cra... ahem, feature... left. The dreaded Holiday Special. Hell, he might even special edit it!

Look, the simple truth is, the OUT remastered in HD is going to make a huge chunk of change when released. George Lucas know this, and is just waiting on the opportune time to release it.

Just wait.

Well, in 2017 Star Wars will be 40 years old, it could be a good time... But George could also announce in 2014 that he´s remaking the original movies to release in 2017 instead... :D

Did anyone else catch the new mumbled line from Obi Wan about Midichlorians in "Jedi"? When he's talking to Luke on Dagobah?

Please tell me you're joking.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Back the fun truck the fuck up a second.
Someone expand on this. I have to know if this is true.

Yeah, I need to hear about this...

Not sure if I really want to know if it´s true or not, midwhatever is the dumbest  thing to ever make its way to the SW universe...

well I watched AOTC blu today (well, i say watched...i watched the first 10 minutes and the last 30 minutes, fell asleep in the middle....been a long day)...and it looks just awful!

the battle of geonosis looks absolutely terrible, everything looks fake. the actors look so far removed from their digital surroundings that it just yanks you right out of the movie. Space Jam looks better!

I take the scene where Anakin jumps on the back of that creature on the arena has not been improved at all, that was one awful piece of cgi on the dvd...

Made an alternate version of Vader's "NO". I'd obviously prefer it not be there at all, but this is a lot more bearable IMO.

I like it! :) You know, I could live with the first "no..." Vader now says but the second... Sounds like some crying baby...

These are my movies, not yours.

Maybe he should keep them to himself, then. >_<

But if he is going to sell "his" movies for lots of money, we as costumers should get a quality product, something these edited movies are not. Or go the easy way and give us a cool bonus, which would be the original trilogy unchanged, something he is not doing, either. It´s a lose/lose situation for us...

Besides, I think it would realistically take Fett a while before discovering the Falcon's destination.

Well, not necessarily. :) The main reason the jump took so long in ANH was so we could have a good introduction to Han´s character; there is no such situation here so jump to the jump. :D Fett could also very well have borrowed the data from the imperials, as Vader have ordered for the most probable destinations to be determined; Bespin could be one of them, and while it would be a poor choice if your ship has a functional hyperdrive, it´s clear Fett figured out the Falcon had problems, to the point he relocated to the Avenger and had his ship placed among the garbage to be ejected. Anyway, the matter is settled but it´s fun to imagine what was on those characters minds... :)

Yeah, but for some reason it's never mentioned in the films. So weird!

Anyway, back on subject...

Well, makes sense since the game (JK II: Jedi Outcast) takes place several years after RotJ... Luke seems to know about its properties but the remains of the Empire had only just started using it...

As for the ships in fire, the Executor´s bridge comes to mind (and the way it looks during the "fall" on the Death Star II is quite bad, while at it...). :)

Promoted for what? Getting the Death Star blown up? Sounds like the Bush Administration!

If we are to point fingers, Tarkin is the one responsible for the Death Star I fiasco for not taking the Rebel attack more seriously, even after being warned; in that scenario, it makes sense the Emperor would punish the Imperial staff by placing Vader above of them on the hierarchy with a 'license to kill'.

If I understood it right, disappearing when dying was some "advanced Force ability" Qui-Gon learned after dying... His spirit taught Yoda and Yoda taught Obi-Wan... So Vader/Anakin simply didn´t know how to do that. To explain how he shows up as spirit along Yoda and Obi-Wan, the theory/EU is that he had some quick lessons on the afterlife or something like that... :)

In the real world, our planet is located in the outer rim of the Milky Way galaxy. If you happen to be in a rural area without any light pollution during a night with clear skies, you could see most of the galaxy as a band where the stars are denser than otherwise.

I was going to post something similar... :)

I remember a particular impressive picture of our galaxy as seen from the ground, using some high sensibility process, that was published some months ago but could not find the article but here´s another example... I guess something like this would look more realistic in the movie but not as impressive, I like the original... :)

Question tho. Isnt the Imperial shuttle (needa's shot) be good to be followed by two tie fighters?

As if Vader wants to make sure Needa won´t take the chance and run away before reporting to him? ;) Poor Needa probably knew he wouldn´t make it back...

Serious, now, it kinda looks out of place Needa having a escort to the Executor, even being a star destroyer captain but that´s just me... what surprised me on the dreaded SE was that Vader´s shuttle didn´t have a escort on the unfamous shots added during the Falcon scape, afterall, with all panic and whatnot during the evacuation of Cloud City, someone could think it was a good idea to try shooting the big bad guy there... :D

The rebels are being hunted with such determination that they are forced to hide at the very edge of the galaxy. Nowhere inside is safe for them.

On the other hand, if it´s so easy, and apparently fast, for them to reach such regions of space, why not hide there in the first place? :) It almost make establishing a large base like the Hoth one pointless... :)

Yeah, I'd always thought that Force powers weren't universal.  As in, one of the manifestations of the Force's power in Vader was his ability to choke people - this doesn't mean that no other Force user can have this ability, just that it's not very likely.  The manifestation of the Emperor's power is powerful energy bolts, etc.

Interesting, I always imagined that Vader´s Force choke was just his favorite way to use what we could call Force telekinesis, I mean, the same Force power Luke used to grab his lightsaber on the wampa cave and Yoda to rescue Luke´s x-wing, Vader used to twist one else´s throats from time to time... :)

ChainsawAsh said:

It appears that no one (except perhaps you, Bingowings) shares this view, and certainly not George, as he's got Dooku using energy bolts and Luke using choking, etc.

Kinda funny, actually... I remember that on the RotJ novelization the Emperor´s energy bolts are described as some "never seem before corruption of the Force" or something like that... Having Doku using them and even Palpatine in the PT kinda makes them so causal now... :/

I'd replace the Force choke with the mind trick...I can't believe Luke using/learning this technique at this point in the movie.

Just as Palpatine should be the only lightning user, Vader should be the only Force choker in my view.

I can see your point but this always makes me think about the first Jedi Knight game where the Force powers are clearly separated into light and dark side ones which didn´t make a lot of sense to me... Luke choked those guards but didn´t kill them while Vader could very well mind trick someone into suicide. :)

What about shot of Vader on board of Executor coming out from the shuttle? Someone can say that it's meaningless too but Vader is AWESOME!!! :D

Well, he´s awesome and all but I can´t picture a stormtrooper parade for each time he arrives to his command ship (or any ship or destination, actually)... It just looks out of place in ESB, the Death Star II arrival in RotJ is a completely diferent matter, being an official envoy of the Emperor and even then it seems clear he finds all of that an annoyance... :)

A lot of action in this thread since I last visited... and that was yesterday... ROFL...

It´s interesting that the people at LucasArts made a similar approach to a version of that scene in the intro of the game X-Wing Alliance, some ten years ago...

I think the only time (except, maybe, for some Marvel comics) I saw any hint of a flirt between Luke and Leia was the final lines of the A New Hope novelization...

"As he stood awash in the cheers and shouts, Luke found  that  his  mind
was neither on his possible future with the Alliance nor on  the  chance  of
traveling adventurously with Han Solo and Chewbacca.  Instead,  unlikely  as
Solo had claimed it might be, he found his full attention occupied  by  the
radiant Leia Organa.
She noticed his unabashed stare, but this time she only smiled."

And I bought that book in the middle 1980´s, I don´t even know if the movie novels had parts retconed later...

Regarding the existing hologram of Vader, something I've always wondered (well not always as I do have a life) But does that mean on Vader's ship, he's looking at a giant Veers, with Vader looking up at him, with  Veers looking down...A little like Vader and Papls holo scene...If so, bit odd isn't it???

I see no problem here, the AT-AT´s cockpit is quite small, we don´t expect to find a big holographic platform in there like the one Vader talks to the Emperor. We also don´t know how big Veers apears to Vader on the Executor, assuming he appears at all... :) Also, Vader is not as megalomaniac as the Emperor, I doubt he cares how big he appears to his men on communications as long as they do their job... because if they don´t... well, Adm. Ozzel comes to mind... ;) And Ozzel surely did appear bigger than Vader on their short chat which only served to give Vader (and us) a HD look on Ozzel´s demise... :)
