Return of the Jedi: 7.5/10

The movie really is a mixed bag, I love the Tatooine scenes and the Death Star scenes but other than that it’s pretty lame. The ewoks, the lack of violence, the boring dialogue/exposition scenes and some pretty bad sets and special effects really drag it down. Most of this is redeemed by some great moments but there is some stuff that increasingly becomes harder to look past. I think TFA is actually better than iton my ranks now.

7.5 out of ten equals mostly pretty lame?

Captain America: Civil War (2016): 7/10

I liked it so much more watching it a second time. I actually cared about the characters and was entertained for one thing. It still has flaws, but I don’t think they outweigh the good things.

Glad that you liked it more the second time. I was wondering if you still maintain that the colors sucked in the film? I thought they were so bland

I thought the colours were very bland, especially during the airport scene, which was so much more entertaining the second time around.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006): 8/10

I really liked it on it’s own, but once I found out that Sacha Baron Cohen improvised most of the lines and that most of the “actors” didn’t know they were in a film, I gave it even more credit.

The Truman Show (1998): 8/10

Really great film, loved the social commentary, the performances were all great, particularly Jim Carrey, who does a subtle yet comedic performance. I only wish he did more films like this.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004): 10/10

Hey, look at that, he did do another serious performance! And the movie managed to be even better than The Truman Show. May well be the peak of human physical creation.

Whiplash (2014): 9/10

Amazing film, certainly second best of 2014. All the actors did a great job, in particular JK Simmons as the abusive teacher. The cinematography and colour palette were both also fantastic.

Army of Darkness (1992): 8/10

Extremely fun, a few characters are underdeveloped and some jokes just come off as stupid, but all the action was very fun and Bruce Campbell does a great job at playing Ash.

Fargo (1996): 8/10

Really great, though a few characters felt useless and the ending was a bit of an anticlimax, it more than made up for it with fun and memorable characters and some great direction.

Captain America: Civil War (2016): 7/10

I liked it so much more watching it a second time. I actually cared about the characters and was entertained for one thing. It still has flaws, but I don’t think they outweigh the good things.

My full review of Civil War. This may change after seeing it a second time though.

What a mess. When I saw the positive reviews I knew that this must be something great, maybe even on par with the excellent Winter Soldier. Sadly I was wrong.

What worked: Black Panther and Spider-Man are really great, and all the scenes with them are the best scenes in the film. Some (not all) of the action was fun, particularly the opening action scene involving Crossbones. All the direction was pretty good, and the actors all did a good job with what they were given.

What didn’t work: This movie has way too many characters, I thought Age of Ultron was overstuffed. What’s even worse is that only Cap and Iron Man have anything to do. Bucky is a plot device, Scarlet Witch and Vision have the barest of arcs, and everyone else (apart from Spidey and Black Panther) don’t get anything to do and are thrown in for no reason. The color palette was so bland and boring, the CGI is cartoonish and fake looking, the action is over the top yet extremely tedious to watch. That’s actually a good description of this film. It’s tedious. I have never felt more bored watching a comic book movie. The villain is one of the worst in the MCU yet, and that’s saying something. He only interacted with out heroes once! The music is bland as hell, but then again every superhero film has bland music. Iron Man and Cap were both going through the exact same arc as in their last respective solo films, and I didn’t care about either when they were forced to fight. I felt apathy when Cap threw down his shield because neither of the characters did anything to make us care about them beyond being the same characters from other, better films.

This film is so overrated. Don’t trust the critics.
