What's the approximate running time? Are they trimmed very much or about the same length?
Also, were these based from the theatrical or extended versions?

I actually am just finishing my first read-through of The Two Towers, so this project sounds great.

The running time for DISC 1 is around an hour and 10 minutes.

Disc 1 is hardly trimmed, but I took out Gandalf's meeting with Saruman, which is the primary change I have made.
as I do with all my edits, I add my voice in one moment in the film. Look for it at the hobbit party and at the end.
This is obviously EE based... being more true to the book.

I'm releasing the "BETA" version of the disc to you for review, It would be wonderful for you to go through it and tell me where all the dead frames lie.
And other mishaps and dislikes you look through. So I can adjust it and make it better. I'll get to work on Disc 2 soon.

Oh yeah, here's the cover...

I'll hand it over in printable form when I get the back of this cover done.

Sounds great! The Two Towers sound daunting to try to do a book-cut. Are you going to re-separate the two narratives into the two discs?

and yeah I can't wait to edit Two Towers. I already did... twice... it's just that I lost most of it and I have to do it again. Yep. That's two discs. Separated. Just like the books.

Okay!

I'm done with Disc 1 of FOTR. I had a really hard time editing it as the HD file I was working with was slowing things down for no real reason. I also had to get separate audio tracks for it and match them together... This edit isn't very edited until we get to "Two Towers"... but still, you can watch this too. There were also a bunch of dead frames here and there, and I'm going to have to take the aggravating time to patch them up... I can't tell you how much I hate doing stuff like that.

But that's okay, because it's 98.9% done! I'll have it up for grabs sometime tomorrow (Thursday)!

Peter Jackson evidently IS returning for The Hobbit...sort of...

I, personally, hate the fact that they're making "two" 'Hobbit' films.

1. if it's a split-up "Hobbit" film, it will lose momentum and drama. It just doesn't work...

2. If it's a story cobbled up using Tolkien's "Appendixes" and "Unfinished Tales", it would be
even worse. There is no real linear, character-driven story. It would just be a muddled mess
of a documentary-style thing. Tolkien never intended these notes to become a narrative.
What are we going to watch for 2 hours? It sounds ridiculous.

If they had to make another movie, I'd propose a short film (30 mintes approx.) shown after the "Hobbit" film
about The Necromancer.
