You young people have everything these days. Why, back in my day the only thing we had to eat was Gravel! And we liked it! What is the world coming to these days?

Gravel? You were locky to have gravel ! I used to have to go to the lake, get some sand and put it in the sun to dry for 20 hours, eat that if the wind hadn't already taken it away, then go back to my hole in the ground where me dad would kill me in cold blood singing "Old McDonald Had A Farm".

Ooh! Those were the days!

Aye. And you try and tell that to the young people of today...

I never actually quite understood your concern about the Patriotism thing to begin with, but no, nothing I have seen has given me that indication. However, I tend to feel patriotism can be, and often is, a really dumb thing. I am the guy who has refused to say the pledge of allegiance since he was in the fourth grade because it struck him as weird to force children to express their undying devotion to stuff they may not believe in or even understand on a daily basis.

. . . Though I only eat Mayo on sandwiches. I've heard of/seen other uses for it but, I just like it on sandwiches. I mean I've seen people put french fry's in Mayo... it's just, why????

Also, even if a PAL soundtrack is pitch-corrected, it's still running at PAL speed, right? Meaning, the sound effects and voices are being spoken faster than the NTSC video would be playing, right?

If that's the case, that means the PAL soundtrack would still have to be slowed down to match the NTSC video frame rate. And if the soundtrack were pitch-corrected already at the studio, wouldn't slowing down the playing speed of the PAL soundtrack then mess up the pitch by making it too low?

That's where stretching comes to our aid. It does exactly what we need: alters the time, leaves the pitch untouched. Any audio editing program has it nowadays.

Book reviews in one sentence or less!
Time

It's been a while since I've read any books, so I'll go with my memory here:

Nobody's boy (Sans Famille) 1878, by Hector Malot

Boo hoo.

From the Earth to the Moon, and a trip around it (De la terre à la lune - Autour de la lune) 1865 - 1870, by Jules Verne

Awesome.

Journey to the center of the Earth (Voyage au centre de la Terre) 1864, by Jules Verne

Why isn't the movie as awesome as the book??? WHY???

Around the world in 80 days (Le tour du monde en quatre-vingt jours) 1873, by Jules Verne

Haven't seen the movies, and I won't, the book is great, end of story.

20000 leagues under the sea (Vingt mille lieues sous le mers) 1870, by Jules Verne

There's no way any movie adaptation can do this book justice. No way.

Captain Fracasse (Le Capitaine Fracasse) 1863, by Théophile Gautier

Interesting, though long and chockful of details and descriptions. It's like eating a good sponge cake, with too much rum in it.

1984, 1948 by George Orwell

This should be a must-read for everyone in this day and age. I just couldn't put it down.

I'll add more books later on.

Ziggy Stardust said:

2001 by Arthur C. Clarke

I think I like the movie better.

I do, too, but I enjoy reading the book, I think it's pretty good. I think I'll read it again this summer.

...what I don't like about it is that today the visual effects look really really dated....

I disagree. Aside from the LBJ scene, I think the effects are great.

ok, I just re-watched a 4 part video about how they did the effects in the movie and I now agree with you, as in "the ones we do know are effects, like any scene with a famous person, look dated and/or odd"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wrCk6O1qGg

the ones we don't think about, like the napalm scene or the scenes with Lt. Dan without legs, are great.

but the scenes with the presidents really challenge our suspension of disbelief to the point that we look really hard for imperfections.

the scene that really disappointed me was the one with John Lennon and Dick Cavett: even with all that make up, you can tell Dick has aged (look at his forehead and compare him to his 70's self). As for John, even I can do a better John Lennon impression, and that's saying a lot I think!

Depression is a part of who I am. As a musician, it's usually my muse. It sounds cheesy, but I'm a song writer. Taking away one of my ticks, takes away a piece of my soul.

''[Depression] sometimes gives me a quantity of creativeness. Art doesn't work without pain; art also exists for compensating pain." - Till Lindemann

Luckily, I'm not suicidal like some people get. I really enjoy living, I just prefer the quality of life to be top.

Yeah, I wish I had that kind of creativity. I feel like I have none whatsoever. And that makes me depressed. :(

But I do enjoy life. After all, there's no alternative, might as well make the most of it. :)

Not really photos that I would call cool, just some random stuff that was in front of the camera lens and didn't happen to be me or one of my relatives.

...and it just had a real 'novelty' feel to it. I did enjoy it from the perspective of history and seeing all the places he ended up. Gary Sinese was pretty good.

Took the very words out of my mouth. :)

I think The Truman Show is better than Forrest Gump.

I never thought of it at all, but it's true, it's a better story, a better movie, and even if I do have a soft spot for Tom Hanks (which is probably why I won't hate Gump) I LOVE Jim Carrey, so yeah Truman Show FTW!
