"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...
Time
Knightmessenger, I like your posting. Yep, if Lucas would just release the originals on a proper DVD release, alot of the negativity towards him would probably subside much. I too enjoyed the prequels, but the SE and George's treatment of the OOT is just plain wrong. Like you, I bet he would regain his massive popularity if he would just do the originals justice.

Anything? Anything At All? (that is remotely positive or good about the SE and PT?)
Time
Oops, yeah, I forgot about that CO. I forgot about how better off the film was without the expansion. Sorry about it. I fixed my post. To be honest, the originals should have been left alone and never tampered with in the first place. You know, let the originals be 70s-80s films and let the prequels be 90s-early 2000s films. Let what is there stay the same. And Hotrod, I like your post, for you speak true. The fan edits here are way better than what Lucas did with his SE edits.

What If The SE Were Only...
Time
Adywan's post is absolutely correct. If Lucas would just see the error of what he is doing and release the originals in today's quality, it would probably douse many people's lashing on the SE. Also, it would be record breaking in sales all together. Yes, the 2006 release is an insult to fans. So bad that I did not even buy it. I refused to buy a rubbish product like that. Fang Zei, I agree. We should have a new petition. Lucas does know that we would all buy the OOT on a great transfer doesn't he? What a moron he is for the disrespect of the films and his fans.

I will be honest with you. I really do not have much negative things to say about the PT. I have seen them all in the theater and I really liked them. Yes I do have a problem with stuff like Jar Jar's bad slapstick, Midichlorians, etc, but I tend to overlook them (and the problems are mainly in TPM anyway) and see the PT as Star Wars in general. Are they as great as the originals? Of course not, they will never be. Do I find them enjoyable films. Yes. I will not push my opinions on anyone, nor will I go on and on about how I liked them. And if you dislike the PT I will respect your opinion, for we all have our own. Because we are all different.

But the SE! Here is where my big problems are with. This is where I have my resentment toward Lucas. Man, he should have left the originals completely alone. Or if he had to modify them, he should have stuck with menial changes. And he should have released both versions on DVD in great quality. I loved how he corrected errors like the cell block corridor. I somewhat like changes like the alternate shots of spaceships, some dialog changes, and interesting additions like the insertion of the Luke and Biggs scene. But I can absolutely not stand Greedo firing at all, droid + Jawa slapstick, Jabba scene, Jedi rocks, and of course, that really crappy change. That stupid stupid stupid Hayden force spirit that always miffs me off whenever I see it or even think about it! I have always detested these blatant scaring and defacing changes that are a total disrespect to the best trilogy of all time, and I also detest Lucas for doing them.

Right on, CO! Lucas is both a jerk and a hypocrite. But he really does know how to work a business with his money making schemes. You are also right in how the 2006 DVDs are still around. I still see them available on amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble. That "it will be around until December 2006" quote seems to have been nothing more than a lie.

I agree with CO. If the changes were just really small like fixing errors, tweaking special effects, etc. I would not be unsatisfied. But with all the crappy changes he has done (the worst being Greedo blasting a shot at all, droid and jawa slapstick, Jabba scene, Jedi Rocks, and the stupid Hayden force ghost),. it is a real problem. I also agree that if both the original versions and SE were out at the same time, a lot of fans would buy both versions (I would, but the originals wold be miles better any day).

Fantasy novels being Made into movies for big and small screen
Time
Well I have seen L.O.T.R. and T.C.O.N. before I read the books and loved them. I then read the L.O.T.R. books and loved them as well. I read the Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe recently and loved it, because the film had followed the book nearly word for word. I heard that Peter Jackson was in some kind of a lawsuit and that is putting a lag int the production early stages and it is not really known if he will direct The Hobbit or not. I read that Sam Raimi is a possible choice if Peter Jackson does not direct, but I certainly hope Peter does direct it, I really do. And I also hope that the next C.O.N. films go well too. As for W.F.R. (Wizard's First Rule), I will just wait until it comes out.

EDIT: I have finished The Chronicles Of Narnia series and I was not fond of the ending. I don't believe I will go to see Prince Caspian because the ending to the book would lead to the confusing end of the last one. So I will just stick with the first chronological three and the first film (I will watch The Horse And His Boy & The Magicians Nephew if they are adapted though).
