Idea: Original dark version of Batman '89?
Time

I saw a 35mm film print of this film a couple of years ago and I have to say that there were no significant differences between it and the Blu-ray release. For example, you could still see Joker's face when he was in the shadows. The Blu-ray transfer was proved by the Director of Photography, Roger Pratt. Also, those screen captures from the teaser trailer are not fair to judge from, due to it's aging and damage. There's supposed to be another edition coming out later this year, so we'll see if Warners is willing to give this another go, but the Blu-ray will be as good as it gets.

Buy the dvd.

The web exclusive link from the DVD no longer works.

Apparently the rapidshare links are down as well. Does anyone still have all of this? I'd love to grab these.

Yes, I would greatly appreciate this as well. I'm curious to hear the details that were cut out for the Despecialized edition.

It's one of the multiple tracks on the Despecialized Edition of A New Hope.

If you aren't in the market to buy the DVD why don't you just send Harmy a pm?  I'm sure he'd be able to answer your question since you heard it on one of his projects.

:)

I tried, but got no response.

I hadn’t heard of these until the Despeciaized edition of A New Hope came out. I would be interested in hearing the full commentary, since it was edited to be played with the original version. Does someone have these commentaries? I tried to look them up, but couldn’t find anything, because I didn’t catch what the commentator’s name was.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

When the Star Trek films came out on Blu-ray, all of the trailers and special features had an older HD transfer of Star Trek II in them, which was VERY grainy. It was probably all they had available to work with at that time. The final transfer was much better, so maybe this is the same situation for Star Wars.

I Wonder Why...
Time

That was the excuse for not doing a complete restoration overhaul, which I accept at not being in the cards. I just want to see Lucas dig up prints of the films, which aren't faded and have minimal amounts of scratches and transfer them to high definition and BOOM, best of both worlds. Take some lessons from the Star Trek Blu-rays, which managed to include the original effects and a high definition print of the original version of Where No Man Has Gone Before, obtained from outside the studio.
