Koyaanisqatsi - IRE Fullscreen Version (MORE IMAGE!) (Released)

You seem to be confused about the purpose of this site - folks here are more interested in preserving and sharing rare materials than profiting from them, but good luck whatever.

On a more pertinent point, has anyone heard any rumblings regarding HD releases of the Qatsis? They seem an obvious choice for a BD release, assuming (a) there's a big enough market and (b) the studio can keep that market happy with an appropriate choice of aspect ratios...

Well said. The attitudes of self-importance and entitlement of some posters on this forum are just sickening... people are spending their own time and resources to create work that's better than anything else out there, and all they get is whining and pestering.

Moaners, get over yourselves. You're in no position to demand anything.

Well I think vbangle is pretty cool, he was actually the first to donate some DL blanks(30 pack), he also had a request for his own personal set of the V3 and it is actually a damn good idea, I wish I would have thought of that, so I will also do my own personal set(the one that I will always watch) that way as well, plus do myself a copy of what I will release everyone else, well at least, most everyone.

Intriguing... can you divulge what that request was?

Need some artwork, anyone interested?

That's quite similar to the one MoveAlong made for the Pwnage edition: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-DVD-Covers/post/318946/#TopicPost318946

ChainsawAsh also did some excellent VHS-style covers that would work well: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-DVD-Covers/post/353666/#TopicPost353666

For what it's worth, I'll be updating my own VHS-style set for this release... can certainly post them up here if there's interest (perhaps just the main three this time). Can't wait!

It looks like according to that link Lucas ruined Graffiti in 1998.  So i guess i have to look for a pre 1998 laserdisc copy, unless that shot was on the last laser release as well.  I know the same documentary was.

So fixing a single bad optical (and with good reason) 'ruined' American Graffiti?! It's unfortunate that the original titles aren't a viewing option, but the rest of the film is as it should be - hardly vandalism on a par with THX 1138.

I remember reading my paperback book sized compendium of the ESB strip on the way back from Worthing beach after losing my new digital watch and getting freaked out by a poster for The Brood showing at the Dome cinema.

I left my paperback ESB comic on a bus somewhere around Barnsley, and to this day I can't fathom how (fortunately it's hardly a rare item even today, so I didn't have any trouble finding another once it occurred to me to do so).

It was cool to see the comic versions of the deleted scenes in Building Empire (does Luke's grappling hook miss in the Star Wars adaptation? ;-) )

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

Jedi Temple34 (or JBListening as he's known in other parts) has an unusual obsession with 70mm and Dolby Stereo, and expresses it in an unfortunately ranting style, but he does seem to know his subject - knowledge and experience that might be useful for the work people are doing here?

JT34 - PM me your details and I'll post you a copy of hairy-hen's mix (possibly synced to some appropriate visuals, but I can't say more than that around here...) It's a fantastic piece of work and I expect you'll be duly impressed.

I'm really hacked off that it's likely to be presented in the same 'stylised' re-colouration that was done for the 'Director's Cut'!

...

Unfortunately, I have no doubt this re-colouration is going to be the DE FACTO 'look' for the forthcoming Blu-ray release too...

Do you know this for a fact? The Quadrilogy DVD was branched (for economy of disc space) so the two versions had to be matched in terms of colour manipulation... this might not necessarily be so with the Blu-ray.

And hasn't there already been an HD transfer of Alien (on DVHS and - I believe - TV broadcasts) - what did that look like? (EDIT: Seems the previous HD release was only the director's cut)

My computer lists the exact runtime of the GOUT as 2:01:07 (the soundtrack is 348,831,343 samples at 48 khz, if I remember correctly).  Don't know how many frames the GOUT video has, but it seems likely this would be the same.

I just checked both in Gspot - the GOUT (or rather Dark Jedi's upscale) is 2:01:09, 174,25 frames, this new version is 2:01:08, 174,24 frames. Close enough that sync shouldn't be an issue?

Has anyone asked Puggo if he'd be willing to transfer the 8mm film?

Yes, though not recently. I mentioned it to him about a year ago - he's certainly an Alien fan and would potentially be interested in doing the transfer, but he simply did not have the time then. Things might be different now that Puggo Grande is finished, so we should probably talk to him again.

By the way, I mentioned colour correction before - I should elaborate. The copy I had to work with (supplied by Rijir) was completely faded to red, and according to my research it would appear that most copies out there are the same - a problem with the cheap film stock used, apparently. I used some fairly capable correction software to pull out what colour information there was, but that aspect will never be great. That said, a professional datacine transfer will potentially yield a superior source for adjustment, so it may yet be worthwhile.

Anyway, I'll PM some links to a sample shortly...

Alien Appendix #5+6: The ALIEN SAGA Archive (Released)

Hi everyone! Glad to see the project is still moving on at such a pace. Haven't had a chance to properly look at AA5 and AA6 yet, but at first glance they seem to be superbly turned out - great work TB!

On the point of the Alien 8mm film... I was actually working on a version of this for a while last summer (before I lost all my spare time), in collaboration with Rijir.

I did a basic projector-based transfer to HDV, which I subsequently colour corrected (as much as possible), resized to SD and encoded - audio was captured separately, cleaned up (again, as much as possible), and synced.

I haven't mentioned this before because (a) I ran out of time to do the authoring and menus that I had planned, and (b) despite making the transfer to the best standard possible with my resources, I wasn't too thrilled with the quality.

However! If the alternative is an old VHS transfer, I suspect my version might still have its uses - it may be a good idea for me to extract a sample for comparison, at least...
