George does have a wonky view of romance.

The scenes between little (not yet orphan) Annie and Padme in "The Phantom Menace" make for very difficult viewing.

You know, that's what I thought too, when Natalie Portman (who was like, what, in her late 20's) looked behind her and smiled with that high school crush smile AT AN 8 YEAR OLD KID! Okay, maybe he was 12, but still.... YIKES!

And Ady, sorry if my panties were in a bunch, but I just want this to be as good as it could be. The whole temp track went right over my head (it's the weed, I swear!). I will swear right now that I will only bring up something 3 times and leave it at that... unless it's green AT-AT lasers.

Natalie Portman is in her late twenties now. She was 16 or 17 when they started filming.

Still, those scenes are awkward.

I think Obi-Wan's fighting in ANH is weak sauce because it's likely he hasn't used his lightsaber in almost 20 years.

Nevermind the fact that Alderaan just blew up and that great disturbance in the Force probably did a good deal of damage on ObiWan's Force-chi or whatever.

Dooku, on the other hand, is a Sith. He gets his power from hate and anger. In ROTJ, Luke didn't start kicking Vader's ass until he got angry.

I have no problem with the Jedi & Sith in the prequels being able to jump around and stuff, so long as the fight makes sense. Sadly, though it looks nice, a lot of the time it was just flash without substance. In each of the duels in the OT the combatants are carrying on a conversation as they fight. But in TPM, for example, after the Jedi Council tell Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to discover who this new Sith guy is, when they encounter Darth Maul they don't ask him a single question. Wasn't it their job to find out why he was there to kill Amidala, who his master is maybe, how did this Sith come back... you know?

It really wasn't until EpIII that we started getting some dialog during duels again.

Sorry if someone asked, but is it possible to replace Sidious in TPM with Dooku? Meaning, make Dooku (seemingly) behind everything from the beginning, but we don't know who Dooku is until AOTC?

After AOTC I was hoping that Dooku was going to be right about what he said to Obi-Wan. I was hoping he was actually trying to stop Sidious, instead of just being one of his pawns. But overall I do think it would make more sense that Dooku would've been Sidious' "inside man" for longer than just some random time in between the first two prequels.

Also, just for fun, I think it would be neat if Jango's armor in AOTC was recolored to Boba's armor from the Holiday Special. Or even just to Boba's movie scheme (ESB or ROTJ.) I just think the purple looks silly, like it's too clean and cheerful. Same for Slave 1, I just don't like the color scheme. Speaking of Slave 1, why's it called that? I remember after TPM, since Anakin was a slave, one of his friends who were also slaves would turn out to be Boba down the line...

Oh, and any reference to money not being valid on Tattooine should be altered. It's an illegal gambling planet. Gangsters specialize in laundering money, they should have had no problem exchanging currency on a planet that has pod races that attract people from accross the galaxy. There were aliens IN the race who are part of the Republic. What money did they use when they got to the planet?

I've already given my lecture about serving the story and not doing something just because you can, so now I'll take a moment to tread that fine line between fan and fanboy *Shudders*:

Yes, changing the laser color may seem like a minor, insignificant change (So did Greedo shooting first), but think of the larger picture in terms of canonicity. Laser color is a marker of what kind of technology is powering the weapon. If you change the laser color you have, indirectly, change what technology makes up the weapons systems on the Imperial Walker which has been outlined in countless Star Wars tech manuals prior (I think).

Adywan would consider anything outside of the movies not to be canon, though, right? I certainly agree that nothing should be done just because it can be done. I also agree that changing the color of the lasers (in this and in ROTJ) should only be done if it will look better and support continuity. Afterall, that is Adywan's goal, right? The idea that the Special Editions didn't fix and/or improve things that needed fixing or coould be improved. If changing the colors of the lasers does not improve things, then it should not be done.

As for the comments regarding the dialog in the base: I always liked the original "The first transport is away" line. The Special Edition version is too recognizable as Mark Hamill, who said the line. But the Special Edition version does sound a little more enthusiastic than the original.

The "Imperial troops have entered the base" line could sound more urgent just be speeding it up (though making sure it's not pitched up). If it's just said faster, it will sound more like the person ran to the intercom to get off the warning.

I will have to make a screen capture of the scene in question (in regards to the asteroid chase sequence beginning).

- Okay, here is what I am talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rnyWNoFb58

From 2:04 to 2:05, there is a flash inside the crater with no lasers or objects hitting the asteroid; it's just like the asteroid "farted" for lack of a better word. This could easily be edited out (yeesh! Didn't realize how white the MF engines are)

Yeah, that's what I was talking about, as well. There is a tiny asteroid that flies into that crater and makes that flash.

That asteroid that has that brief flash in it at the start of the chase is from a tiny asteroid colliding with it. While there are other shots where asteroids collide and cause explosions, this tiny one just drifts into the big one and makes a big flash. It seems a bit like overkill, but it does establish quickly just how treacherous the asteroid field is -- it's not even safe for other asteroids!

While we're on the topic of asteroids, I'm wondering: what of the asteroid that's actually a sneaker that flies by? Keep it, or composite another asteroid on top of it?

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions
Time

I've yet to comb through all 6 pages, so maybe these suggestions were made:

-Cut the circus natives attacking Indy and Mutt at the tomb. It has no bearing on anything whatsoever. They should arrive at the tomb and just go right in.

-Near the end, just before the Crystal Skull natives climb out of the walls, Mutt grabs a torch and says "someone's been here" or something. Cut this bit. It spoils it for the audience that someone is there, plus who would've used it? The natives hiding in the walls? or Oxley who was last there weeks ago?

-Cut as many sequences possible of Indy asking others (Oxley mostly) what to do next. Indy should figure things out himself.

-Cut the shots with the tracking device Mac drops. It spoils the ultimate reveal that he is bad, and Spalko could just figure out where they're going from piecing previous clues and using her telepathic powers.

-Trim Indy asking about Mutt's mother in the diner. Indy's already invested because of Oxley. But once Indy asks about Mutt's mom, it opens a can of worms. Like, if Indy didn't recognise who Mutt's mom was, you'd think he'd ask who his dad was, and right there Indy would've been able to put two and two together.

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

I know Adywan said he's keeping the SE celebrations at the end of ROTJ, but in my opinon they just don't make sense.

First, the Rebels didn't have their forces spread out around all those locales to liberate them from the Empire, so having all the planets celebrate at the same time seems implausible. One could argue that the Emperor controlled through the dark side all his forced throughout the galaxy, so when he died the imperial forces were easy to defeat, but still seems unlikely.

Second, what does Tatooine have to celebrate? They were ruled by the Hutts, not the empire, and they were ruled by gangsters even when the Republic was in control in the prequel trilogy. What does the defeat of the empire mean to them?

Third, we never really see what impact the Empire has on regular people, so seeing celebrations by anonymous groups other than our protagonists just seems trite.

But if Ady wants to keep 'em, that's OK. I'm sure his version will be better than the SE no matter what.

The main power generators pic is from this card:

I have the card and can scan it in as a PNG image in whatever resolution you would need...ie...600, 1200, 2400....

By the way, the card game is still being played and I am involved in the committee. I can also ask if they have the original image.

Since the card was printed at likely no more than 300 dpi, you won't that much better a scan even at a higher resolution.

If the original image is higher res, that would be a better source.

by the way, if you can't tell, i'm a purist, i prefer the 77 star wars, and the 81 ep V, and 83 ep VI, but i don't mind watching the SE versions ('from time to time'), but i don't consider them as a replacement.............more like a fan edit..

The 1981 version of ESB? I didn't know there was an '81 version different than the '80 version. What are the changes?

I myself don't mind the Star Wars re-release with "A New Hope" added.

As for Sith eyes, they're not needed. The story is told just fine without them.

Ady, your latest edit of the hologram audio is awesome! I can't wait to see it with your Emperor hologram in place.

GM, I like what you're doing the the scene as well, I just think the "Hoooooowwwwww is that possible?" line doesn't work in any context, and really just isn't needed.

Oh, and Ady, any chance of working this scene into the film:

I honeslty have always felt that the PT suffered because Lucas didn't do what he wanted. He let others guide him too much... people he trusted and shoudln't have.

Certainly you mean the other way around, right? That the Prequels didn't turn out well because Lucas was surrounded by yes-men who never questioned what he was doing? Unless you're referring to Lawrence Kasdan's advice that Lucas should write and direct them all himself. In that case, I agree, Lucas should not have listened.

I was under the impression that instead of making Boba's voice in ESB match AOTC, Adywan was considering modifying Jango's voice (when wearing the helmet) in AOTC to sound something more like Boba's original voice. So he'd still be making that a consistency of sorts between the Prequels and the originals.

Someone already said they didn't change Vader's voice to match Hayden's, and regardless of the actual SOUND of his voice, he doesn't deliver lines anything at all like James Earl Jones.

I like the idea of Jango's voice being the one that gets changed, so when he puts on the helmet he sounds more theatening. Heck, just remove Jango's lines altogether when he's wearing the helmet, he's more intimidating the less he says anyway.
