Hey guys!I'm new here and want to say my big thanks what you guys do, and ESPECIALLY what Harmy is doing for us and Star Wars!

So, I was yesterday watching the blue rays of the original trilogy at my friend, (hell, he actually bought it, what a waste of money!) and I absolutely hated it to a point I was furious! So I went home and did research about an existing edition of the unchanged editions and found this forum! AND THANK GOD I DID! Harmy you ware the f*****g best!!! i LOVE YOU (sorry ;)

I just have one problem. i have read through the forum, a bit to find a way to download all the newest versions of the despecialized editions, but haven't found a working link. I have tried myspleen, but unfortunately i don't have the login data. Can somebody maybe send me a pm with a login and password, so i can download the files?

I would be beyond grateful! I told my girlfirned that we will watch the original Star Wars trilogy together (since she has never seen them, oh dear lol), but I will NOT poison her mind with the ridiculous blu rays or any other GL-raped editions. I want the real thing! ;)

p.s. Harmy, you are just a badass! keep the good work up! People like you are the true heroes of the Star Wars universe!

Welcome to the forum.  I'm glad to see you are enjoying the fruits of the labor done here.

As for myspleen....one does not get random log-in data.  You would need to have an invite so you can join as it's a private site.

If you pm me with a valid e-mail address I will make sure you receive an invite.

Cheers!!!!

He doesn't need an invite:

"Myspleen has freeleech and open registration until January 2, 2013 at Midnight GMT. Take advantage!"

Thanks stretch009 for the polite response .......

Well then, all generosity aside .... go ahead an sign up and download the files you're in search of .... as a member of myspleen I apparently haven't visited enough lately to have noticed this freebee....but I'm glad it's available for folks ..... time to go see what else I've missed before I make myself look like more of a fool, ey?

Peace out .......  :)

DTS soundtracks on laserdisc and not on DVD or BD?

SilverWook said:

This brings up an interesting question. One multiplex I haven't been to in a long time was all DTS. What would they do with a film like Evita?

If they had it ..... it probably was sent to the next theater when they were done or back to the distributors.  As for the DTS discs that accompanied it .... they are either still at the theater in storage, sent back with the film, in the trash, or in the hands of collectors.....these are just guesses.

CapableMetal may well be the person you want to chat with about such things.  He's been just as instrumental as all the others involved in the "Cinema DTS" experience here that may well have ideas and working objectives that could help this project become more defined.

He has been a teacher and a comrade in arms to me ...... I'm sure he'd offer up some relevant thought process for this endeavor.

Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP)
Time

Hey, welcome on board.

What would be optimal is having the actual 35mm prints for these.  It's been talked about in some of the other preservation threads.  I've got a TPM trailer that I need to get sent out for scanning so we can get a better idea of the theatrical color scheme for it.

With the DTS audio available for these theatrical releases it could prove to be quite a nice set of creations for the fans.

Cheers

Make sure you remember that DTS was FIRST available in 1993 with the release of Jurassic Park.

I would guess that a movies soundtrack is mixed for a theater before it's mixed for home video ..... at least back in the day and maybe not so much now.  That being said, I personally don't know of a definitive way to separate the how, what, where, when, and why of different audio mixes for different video formats.

I DO know that aside from some of the earlier titles, most Super Bit audio was half-rate DTS but I could not tell you which early ones were full.  I have Spiderman 1 & 2 and Batman Begins on Super Bit and they are all half-rate.  The X-Files DTS DVD I have is also half-rate DTS.

I hope this helps and doesn't confuse......

Creating an LFE channel with Sony Vegas???

Yes....I believe the LFE for DTS audio is supposed to be extracted from the rears.

Why do you believe this? Are there specs somewhere you've read (and remember that, AFAIK, theater DTS has totally different specs to home DTS).

While a low-pass filter would give you a LFE track, I have a feeling that there's more to it than that.

If the LFE track is matrix-encoded into the rears, similar to how a Dolby Surround track contains a surround channel matrix-encoded into the front channels, then you would need to run the audio through a theater DTS decoder to extract the intended LFE.

Its all in the theatrical DTS white paper, I think, although I don't have the link to it. The DTS 6D decoder does a low-pass filter at 80Hz on the surround channels and that is what produces the LFE. The way I extracted it was to put the two surround channels into a stereo file, low pass filter then do a channel conversion to mono with each at 50% vol. so its not too loud. It produces a decent LFE channel that way, although I tend to roll the frequencies above 60Hz off to 80Hz and shelf it there, it gives a 'cleaner' LFE channel.

EDIT: Audacity should be able to do this.

Don't know if any of this is relevant ..... I had tried reaching this BJ_M but I had no luck getting a response.

Idea: Lost World & JP III - if I got the DTS would anyone be up for a project?

Great, how did you get the discs? Auctions?

Though I haven`t experience in Sound Forge 9 but I like to get in to this :-)

It would be amazing to see all three movies with this quality. By the way, do you have access to the first JP DTS audio track from the project? Maybe I can manage to upload it for the others.

Many Greetins

I've made some friends in the 35mm community and they've helped me get them.

As for the JP audio, it's up on the spleen already.  Thanks for the offer of assist on it though.

For those looking, if you want to pm me I'll make sure you get a spleen invite.  I will need an e-mail address to send it to.

:)

This project is awesome.  Borisanddoris and ElDonante were instrumental in not only making it happen but also in inspiring me and others to search out DTS cinema audio to make it available for other projects.  Silverwook is also deserving of thanks for helping to acquire 2 of the SE disc sets so they could be worked on.  Capablemetal gets my thanks as well for working on the other audio to help move things forward.

As for that WSR DTS trailer disc....I'd love to get an ISO of that and other demo discs to see how they compare.

I now have the Cinema DTS audio for Lost World & III.  I have access to Sound Forge 9 which should make working with audio easier.  I am attempting to learn how to edit the audio together properly so all I have to do is make the soundtrack available for syncing.

Anyone with Sound Forge experience want to chime in?  It would be most appreciated.

I'd be curious to know which one was first too.  I mean it's weird for a place to take something down with no explanation to the original uploader about what issues there were to begin with.........I'm glad I got to snatch it before it went poof.....and it is cool of AntcuFaalb to put it up somewhere else if it's needed by others.

Info: Star Wars Executor Boxset VHS (1995)

pittrek said:

I just bought this one on ebay. Is it worth transfering ? I'm watching ANH right now and a lot of the preservations look better than this VHS :-)

What kinda price did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

For the posterity of your collection you might want to do straight transfers so you can keep the tapes in good shape.  You know what would be awesome of you?  If there is any way you could do hi-res scans of the artwork for the VHS boxes....that would be SO very cool as I have quite the archive of Star Wars artwork for DVD, Bluray, and VHS ..... sadly, I do NOT have these in it.

Hint, hint ......

After years of having lost this, I was going through my old hard drives and finally found my (incomplete) copy of the very rare TPM Thai-subtitled telecine I picked up shortly after the 'Z' version made the rounds in 1999.  I think I first posted about this here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Idea-Original-Theatrical-Prequels/post/105168/#TopicPost105168

It appears to have been an EViLiSO VCD distribution, as detailed from an old trade list:

DT  Name                         Time Format Gen Source Q  Id#   Notes
99  Phantom Menace, The          130  VCDRX2 0   Tel    5  E003  EViLiSO

Here's a few screen shots, cropped in VLC to 16:9.  Sadly, I only have the beginning and opening shot from the first half, and part of the pod race to the part where Boss Nass makes Jar Jar general from the second half:

Above, you can see scratches on the frame...this is immediately followed by jump cut where the film was spliced.

This frame above exhibits an interesting artifact.

This scene bootleg is out there in its complete form, somewhere.  I was never able to get the whole thing because the FTP site went down before my days-long download could complete back in 1999.  The historical value of this 100% theatrical copy is priceless.

--SKot

This would certainly be a nice reference for the TPM Theatrical Preservation especially where color timing and how it looked "before" changes are concerned.
