Well happy to say I was wrong and you learn something new everyday. So you can copy DTheather with a work around. I noticed some references to using a Samsung T165, which I have, does anyone know how the exact process works (perhaps PM me)? If I can do it, I can also make a 1:1 copy. I'd like to backup all my tapes.

Does anyone have a list of the decoded tapes? Is one of them The Ring? I wanted to make a copy of that DVHS, since the tape is rumored to have the original theatrical blue color timing vs the Blu-ray's green color timing.

I believe that the D-theater tapes started at 25 GB and ran up to 50 GB and the bitrate maxed out at 28.2 but floated in the mid 20s at a constant bitrate. Alien was probably 25 GB. The back of the tapes lists a AC3, PCM and DTS soundtrack so if accurate you should have that in the TS.

That would be pretty bad ass if you could do a 1:1 copies. Whats the list of movies you have for DTheater?

X-Men and X2 would be totally freeking awesome ......  :)

Having the PCM from it would be nice.

Alien (Director's Cut - D-Theater + LD soundtracks)

Doombot and I have done preliminary work on this already.  We have the D-Theater capture, the home theater DTS audio and the cinema DTS audio already sync'd.  The brief D-Theater opening tag left intact.  I've watched it and it looks and sounds really great.

I wanted to do a menu and artwork for it but since I have NO skills in these departments it would be great to see something special for it.  Maybe even something that incorporates the D-Theater artwork as a nod.

:)

Wow, that is beyond bizarre. I was going to capture my Alien DVHS tape and do the same thing, now that I have a new computer. I'm glad its in the hands of more capable people then me. Good luck guys!

I am hoping you'd still consider doing a HQ capture of this ..... it would be nice to have a second one to draw from if other things are needed in the future.

I can still capture my copy. When are you looking to finish? I was planning to do this over the Holidays

I'd be fine with your schedule.  I still need to figure out a menu and artwork.  Just don't skip on the quality for your capture.  I've got HD space to accommodate a raw capture.

Infact, there is a way to send the encrypted signal via firewire to a non-compliant 5C (or just buggy, who knows?) decoder; it then send out a non encrypted signal via its own firewire cable, that could be captured with any PC.

I think Alien (and most, if not all, D-Theater tapes) was ripped (and not captured) with this method; of course I could be wrong... but if I'm right, the copy that is "in the wild" (^^,) should be better than any capture one.

The one we obtained was like 19GB.  I could not find anything larger so I'm guessing what we have is fairly close to the "floating in the wild" one.

The restoration base is drying up for good, DarthKenobi.

However, fan edits with new ideas will always have a built-in audience. Why not try that?

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion but I wouldn't be so quick to poo-poo the restoration base just yet.  Each restoration project has it's own opportunity based on what those working on them want and what those looking to see them want.  The prequels and the SE are still open regardless how anyone feels about them.  There is still room for one to make contributions.

Can nobody outside of off-topic read humor?

Thank you.

To explain:

Jettrel Fo, if you've never had a little brother or sister, or have never *been* that little brother or sister, you might not recognize it, but

Faellan is teasing you. It's only fun because you're responding with anger, outrage, etc.

Meanwhile, is DarthKenobi going to chime in with some details?

I am actually not angry .... I'm just not a fan of idiocy at the expense of a possible decent thread.  As for my sense of humor, it is working just fine ... I even took a wet paper bag jab @ Frink ..... since it's usually him jabbing me.

CONFIRMED

This isn't private information so confirming it when others can see the same thing proves nothing.

Maybe it's Frink, who knows.  I thought double ID's were no longer allowed here anyways .... we must still have people playing games .... it sucks.

University, actually. He's 25, like me, if I recall correctly.

As I'm from the U.S., we don't use the term "Uni" here, or University.  Here it's college or school.  Thank you for correcting me.  I do believe they do school work at Uni, not Uni-work, LOL.

The many many universities in the US would like a word with you.

I may be wrong about this, but technically I think in the US a University is made up of several colleges.

Well, since I'm in College myself I'm not worried about the menagerie of adjectives that still don't explain away the terms school or homework.

As for Nemesis, it is out there but it is apparently far too old to possibly retrieve.

It might still be possible.  If you really want it you can use a news client like "Forte Agent" and retrieve files that are much older than what you can find on nzbclub.  I have usenetserver too and agree that it does rock and with it and forte agent I have been able to download extremely old files.

How old are we talking? Can you get files 7 years old?

Is that how old Nemesis is?  I'm not sure, I just know from experience I was able to download files from alt.binaries.starwars (using forte agent)  that were too old for nzb search engines.

As far as I can tell, Skyhd never broadcast Nemesis or it could be that it was never uploaded. The only copy's that exist on usenet were domestic captures that date back 6-7 years. As near as I can tell they have glitches or at least some of them do. I have given up my pursuit in finding a high quality 1080i of this film. If you want to try to locate a copy Stretch search for Nemesis 1080i. They were not hiding file names back then.

Please send me some links to check out .....

I've had great results using Handbrake to convert various frame rate mkv's to 23.976 and that's after having problems trying to use Uncropmkv, which caused image drag and blur.  Very strange.  I see no loss in quality using Handbrake.  It does a great job with the audio as well.

Thanks for the heads up.  At this point, the audio doesn't concern me.  It can be replaced.  It's the video that I need to be compliant to NTSC so the audio can be worked in.

The first 6 movies have only the DD 5.1 which can be retrieved from the 2 Disc DVD collection (minus The Motion Picture of course) as it is the theatrical version and I believe I already have pcm ld audio for it.  Movies 7 through 9 carry the DTS from the 2 Disc collectors edition plus commentary tracks.  These also can be replaced.  We do have cinema DTS for movies 7 through 9 but they will need to be synched properly.

I don't want to sacrifice video quality so that is most important.

:)

Yes, it just needs to be burned in UDF2.5 file format. If you use IMGBurn, it will set everything automatically for you.

Alright, giving it a try on the Mac (using the app called Burn), it gives me the option to burn as UDF but doesn't specify UDF2.5.

Jetrell, it's possible to split each movie in small chunks and use for example sendspace or mega, instead of torrent... what about ep. 10?

I won't do sendspace or mega for these.  If I have to I will private torrent them 1 at a time.  I'm a patient guy but I will not go through what Harmy, TeamBlu, and others do, i.e. "are we there yet?  are we there yet?" stuff.

If people can pay for internet service paying $3.00 for 3 days of usenetserver service shouldn't be an issue.  One might have to learn how to set up a free newsreader program but it isn't hard and there are people here to help.  I've done it just for these as a matter of fact, by myself.  I had little choice if I wanted them soon.

As for Nemesis, it is out there but it is apparently far too old to possibly retrieve.
