Any new progress?
Any new progress?
After speaking with the director Kevin Lima about the sound mix it was confirmed that Goofy Movie was indeed originally mixed and presented theatrically in select theaters in Dolby 5.1. An anonymous source - who shall remain anonymous - was able to provide me with the discrete 5.1 music and effects only track (used for dubbing other languages) in late January. That 5.1 mix is very clearly NOT an upmix with plenty of discrete activity in all channels. The rear channels are mostly mono but do have some stereo activity. Specifically I noticed stereo separation during the vacation montage sequence when bats come out of a cave and during the roller coaster shot plus when Powerline makes his stage entrance.
Even though I had completed the new mix, armed with this new source I preserved my work and then scrapped my original mix.
The primary issue with using the new source was that the vocals are obviously missing. I went through the original lossless laserdisc track and used the upmixed Center channel which removes all directional activity and then added it back into the 5.1 mix as the new center whenever dialog was occurring. When no dialog was active I was able to default/switch back to the 5.1 music and effects track. There are a few select times that vocals come solely from Left and right (during the musical numbers On the Open Road and After Today) plus there were some scenes with directional left/right pans (secretary in chair offscreen, goofy being bumped offscreen by Pete in department store, scene where Bigfoot chases max and goofy into the side/rear channels.)
I was careful to swap in my previous remix into those specific instances to blend it back and of course I had to Time align the entire master and eq. My discrete overhead and rear surround effects were redone with the stronger separated elements.
The musical numbers did contain the original Center vocals for the Powerline numbers so whenever Powerline sings I didn’t have to change out the center unless someone was speaking over his singing.
It was mixed with 4 overhead channels plus 7.1 base for the final output and rendered in lossless 12 channel and then encoded into DTS X with compatible 7.1 and 5.1 downmixes.
Due to the nature of overlaying a center channel at times, for playback on a stereo 2.0 system with no discrete center the original theatrical 2.0 lossless mix will offers the better experience, but for those with a discrete 5.1 or higher system the new mix rocks. It will be sent to Kevin for notes within the next few weeks.
Does that mean we might finally be able to see the full thing for ourselves soon?
The numbers on the Death Star update meter start at 1138. Nice touch.
So, my hunch was right. It DOES appear to be a “software update.” The download meter from Rogue One at the bottom confirms that. Great job!
Look, you don’t necessarily HAVE to look at outside ancillary material in order to understand what goes on inside a movie. You can simply do so if you want a deeper explanation than what the film provides, which is sufficient on its own.
Well people who hate young anakin ghost are going to hate this. In a new book they’re going to explain why he’s young as a force ghost.
Which book is this?
“From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi”
Those Certain Point of View books aren’t really canon, I think.
They are.

Let’s change the subject, please.
You might as well say the same about “The Clone Wars.” How else would we have known about the ultimate fate of Sifo-Dias, and why the clones did a complete 180 on their loyal Jedi generals so suddenly?
The Prequels relying on The Clone Wars for important plot details (and important character development) is also bad.
The Prequels are just as guilty of overreliance on supplementary material as the Sequels are.
If you really are that invested in Star Wars to begin with, then what’s stopping you from WANTING to learn more about it?
Considering “Shadow of the Sith” is basically just “plug in the plot holes for The Rise of Skywalker” I feel like hardly anyone was excited for it anyway.
An unexplained detail is not a plot hole.

The novel “Shadow of the Sith” seems to make the compromise that sometimes he looks young, sometimes he looks older.
Excuse me, this is the person who used to be Bridger12. I have a new username now, because I got a new computer, and the username and password cookies didn’t save. Could someone please private message the PCM Laserdisc audio track to my new username, Jedi122, if anyone has it?
Even though the sequels are divisive, there might someday be Star Wars content beyond the sequels that’s popular. I’d hate it if Adywan did kill off Lando, and then Disney knocks it out of the park with the Lando show.
Adywan already created one ST connection in TESB:R, where he added a bunk in the Falcon’s main room.

I agree they look slightly cooler in red but unless it’s possible to change the plans to red in Rogue One, I think it’s best to keep them white in A New Hope to stay consistent with Rogue One, which is in my eyes more worth keeping consistency with than Attack of the Clones, given the higher quality of the film itself and the fact that it immediately segues into A New Hope.
I get the feeling that in the shot where R2 is plugged in and the plans show up on screen, a “software update” of sorts will show, and the white plans will change into the red ones.
Just so everyone knows, I am the person previously known as Bridger12. I got myself a new computer, and I completely forgot my log-in information, and the cookies didn’t save. So I had to start a different account, with a new username. Anyway, how is the work coming along, Venny? I feel like I really need to update Jerry soon.
I was just playing with the End Credits track from the ROTJ soundtrack and threw this together. I think it could work as a replacement for Yub Nub. Obviously needs some cleanup and polish though. Definitely feels more StarWars-y than either official version in my opinion. Maybe Ady will consider an alternate audio track for the Yub Nub naysayers 😂
That one starts out pretty amazing (I’m glad you aren’t saving the main theme needledrop for Rise of Crapwalker)
I’d appreciate no ST dunking, okay?
Is Adywan isn’t using Victory celebration? I guess I missed that detail
If George Lucas knew Episodes VII, VIII and IX would eventually made, he wouldn’t have made the decision to add “Victory Celebration” and the montage of different planets at the end of ROTJ. Now, it kinda makes the ending of the OT a little TOO conclusive in hindsight. I think that’s why Adywan is changing the music back to “Yub Nub” and having the events remain on Endor, just as it was done in 1983.
Good catch at 3:17. I never noticed that the hallway was missing in the back of the room!
This is a very minor thing, but the Aurebesh text in the shot at 4:07 of the comparison video was redone for the 2020 Blu-Ray, but the 2011 Blu-Ray is still used as the source here.
Didn’t Vader already kill both those pilots in the original? I could be mistaken
In the reel it shows the stormtrooper killing the second one in the 2011 blu-ray.
Holy hell! My bad! That is an incredible change that makes Vader even more badass!
It reminds me of his skills during his Anakin years. Which is fine with me.
I actually kind of like the Death Star Praxis ring effect. But if you don’t like it, that’s okay.
