Movies that were updated, then the original was "lost"(other than Star Wars)
Time

Another one that I forgot is Die Hard... Apparently the German dialogue spoken by Hans Gruber's heist team was re-recorded for the home video versions, starting from the remastered Special Edition VHS release, to resolve grammar and punctuation issues that were present in the theatrical cut. Only Alan Rickman's German dialogue remains uncorrected.

I don't know if McTiernan has followed the footsteps of Lucas/Spielberg by ensuring Fox only provide the fixed version for TV broadcasts, I'd have to compare my W/S THX VHS and SE DVD alongside my HDTV recording to confirm.

Info: Are HDTV versions better than Blu-ray?
Time

Sky Movies are showing all six films every weekend. They're very likely being shown in their original aspect ratio, unlike the cropped ITV broadcasts. If you're in the UK or Europe and have access to Sky, it might be worth a look.

Have you felt a disturbance in the Force? Never fear - it's simply the return of ?Sky Movies Star Wars. Every weekend from Saturday 8 August, Sky Movies Greats will become Sky Movies Star Wars, a channel dedicated to all things Star Wars including movie marathons, features and specials.

What's more, the entire saga - including the phenomenal Clone Wars and Rebels animated series - will be available on demand until the end of September. It's the first time the complete saga has been available on demand, anywhere in the world. ?

Capturing flash video from the source?
Time

Just a couple of suggestions to add...

The combination of Coojah and Blader has worked well for me with a number of sites where I was then able to FFMPEG the captured .flv into an MP4 or MKV.

RTMPDumpHelper, updated with the KSV 2.4 or 2.5 package enabled me to capture videos from a variety of sites, including, in the past, Hulu.

Help: looking for Prequel Theatrical Versions
Time

III would only take a few seconds to make a theatrical edit but I doubt anyone would care. It would be nice if any of the 'scene' cams/telesyncs from its original release were still available on the net, to see if there are any other changes that haven't been noticed.

There was better than a cam or tele-sync for ROTS' theatrical version. A telecine did the rounds and whilst it wasn't quite as good as the final retail DVD, it's still a pretty decent copy for the circumstances and put the other offerings to shame.

I've got it somewhere on an HDD, if you're interested, let me know.

Editing HDTV captures on Mac OS X?
Time

Success! After processing and converting the .TS via FFMPEG, I was then able to import the .MOV into Mpeg Streamclip, then perform the necessary trimming to the start and finish and the final .MOV plays in VLC without any audio sync issues whatsoever! For the future, I know what to do and hopefully this will be of benefit to other Mac users too.

Thanks so much for your help with this.

Info Wanted: 'Blood In Blood Out - Bound By Honor'... Does an HD broadcast exist?

Topic is in the title. I've never seen it in HD, and the DVD is OOP as far as I know.

As with many films that are classified OOP, there's loads of copies of the 190 min director's cut on Ebay:

Can't find any info on an HDTV broadcast but I did a link where someone is offering what they claim is an upscaled 720p version...

Editing HDTV captures on Mac OS X?
Time

For my PAL SDTV captures, I've been able to easily remove the adverts/commercials and trim the start and end points with Avidemux but the program doesn't cope with performing the same tasks on HDTV .ts files. The final result nearly always suffers from audio sync issues.

I could run VideoRedo from my Bootcamp partition but I'd really prefer a Mac option instead and one that doesn't involve re-encoding. Can anyone offer recommendations? Although Avidemux is free, I'm happy to shell out the cash and buy a program that will get the job done.

Thanks as always.

I found this one the other day also.

Devils Advocate (Taylor Hackford)

An artist Sued because of a sculpture that was featured in the film was a copy of his work. So it had to be digitally altered to remove it's likeness.

The Last of the Mohicans (Michael Mann)- Is in an ultimate cut. The theatrical release is no longer available and OOP which has extra and alternative scenes.

Alexander (Oliver Stone) - Is in an ultimate cut. The Alexander Revisited version is no longer available which had extra footage. The theatrical cut also makes use of extra footage. Not that good a film though started watching it and pushed stop on the theatrical cut.

I'm certain that the theatrical cut of Mohicans has aired regularly in recent years in OAR on UK TV (Channel 5) and the revisited version of Alexander isn't exactly difficult to find on BD/DVD.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=alexander+revisited&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=alexander+revisited&_sacat=0

Likewise with Enter the Dragon, I'm certain that I've seen the theatrical cut on ITV4 in recent years. Can a film be classified as lost if it's being shown on TV?

My chiptune covers

Thanks for the heads up, watching! :)

Edit... Ok, watched some of it but couldn't take his complaining about the level design for that long. The problem isn't the level, he's just not good at playing Turrican and paying attention to details... I'm amazed that he even needed a cheat mode, I was able to blitz through all the levels reach The Machine with stacks of lives left over.

A Bronx Tale - best quality version available?
Time

Hi, thanks for replying.

The UK Blu-ray is by StudioCanal and according to the following, suffers from DNR:

There's a German BD but apparently it's from the same afflicted master.

It seems like the best bet is to wait for a hopefully superior US release (I'm in the UK but my PS3 is modded and can play all regions) and in the meantime, cap the BBC's 4:3 version on its next airing.
